I shoot moving subjects all the time without any issues on the S5 II… My personal application is not faster moving subjects like race cars. Rolling Shutter isn’t that it’s not critical, just not critical to everyone. People are missing out on a seriously awesome camera hampering on single gripes where all cameras suffer from something… that’s how Brands keep you in the purchasing loop. I use 3 - S5 II & 1 - S5 II X for paid work since release and have had nothing but praise from Clients.

That’s great. For you. It’s not talked about among the KZfaq Panasonic guys who make a whole ton of in-depth content about these cameras. I own these cameras too, and i love them. Potential buyers should know fullframe 4k could be unusable to alot of shooters because we know how much these youtube videos sell gear, and those people probably wont go to cined to compare rolling shutter performance.

Hola Caleb!!!, seamos sinceros y transparentes.

Beside video, the photography features are well used also. Hand held high res for landscaping. live composite in a city night, or capture lightning. The Real time lut, that can give some real nice graded jpegs ooc. And the not pro lenses that got a good budget. Just perfect

Love the stabilization and versatility all around, love how surprisingly sharp the 20-60mm is even if the aperture is smaller than i'd like, and hate that 4K60 is in aps-c. The G9-II has that and with two SD-cards it's just like the S5-IIx. You need the SSD for the data rich codecs and you can't run the camera for ever without overheating. In the future, we will get a new GH camera with the AF and also a new S1H (or S1X) with all the good stuff in camera. I think, Panasonic could build a GH6-II right now. Just the G9-II sensor in the camera (PDAF and DR-Boost at every ISO). They also can develop a bit further and we get a GH7 with more advanced features. They make the call and tell us when they think it's time.

Looking forwards to the S1/S1H mark 2, I feel that can be very interesting... I am current using S5II, as I bought it during the preorder time, and I find no serious need to get a second camera now, so I will continue with the S5II till S1 series comes out. I am now using the sigma 28-70/2.8 lens, wide end is very sharp, but the tele end goes a bit soft, so plan to change to primes: 35mm/1.8 + 100/2.8 (I do love to shoot macro, have a Laowa 85/5.6). The video feature in S5II is amazing, especially all the exposure tool, shooter angle and IBIS, and when I do some nice sunset shots, the handhold/tripod high-res photo mode is really useful. I hope the next S series camera have proper timecode system (maybe even crystal compensation timecode that won't drift) and gyro data bake into the video footage, and a bit better rolling shutter.

The lack of trust in Af makes me nervous, I will pass the S5 II and wait for the next releases with better and reliable AF. Since I will be only shooting family stuff, including day to day and short films, I went with the ZVE-1 for the following reasons: - small form factor and compact, perfect for travel and shooting stuff on the go - lenses (I need only 2 lenses, Viltrox 20mm 2.8 (in the future 18mm 1.8) and sony 50mm 1.8) crazy cheap lenses - the best auto focus in the market (specially to record my 2 kids, age 8 and 4) - a7s iii and fx3 sensor with incredible low light performance - no 60 fps or 120fps crop (I hate having to change lenses to record on these mode) I know that it's a little bit pricey but it compensates with the lenses being cheaper. I love panasonic colors but I can color grade, I quite enjoy doing it actually. - I will be shooting 1080p as well, compared to the a6700 is miles ahead These are the major reasons, sorry the long text lol.

Hey, I want to buy this camera, but the one thing that's making me nervous is the autofocus, and I couldn't help noticing in your talking headshot that the background bokeh was pulsating. Examples: 4:14, 6:18, 8:51. Do you know why this is, and what's been your experience with the autofocus? It seems like maybe it's getting confused with your hands moving? From the looks of this video, it definitely seems like it's not perfect. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.

Hi Caleb I have a problem with S5II when using standard IS along with IS BOOST at high apertures - above f9.0 using AF-C. The vertical elements on the sides of the frame are shaky and the footage is unusable. The problem does not occur when I use MF, regardless of the stabilization mode and aperture value. It also disappears when I close the aperture below f9.0. Is this normal? Firmware 2.4, Lumix 50mm 1.8 lens.

10:11 don’t worry, All-I has absolutely nothing to do with color depth. You’ll notice that 4K all-I has the same bit depth (10bit) and the same Chroma sub sampling (4:2:2) than 4K long GOP. The bitrate difference comes from a the fact that all information for each and every frame is stored as opposed to Long GOP that stores some calculations that reduces the amount of data needed. For instance, it would, in the codec’s language, store the information that “this area is composed of pixels with this shade of blue and this luminance and it remains consistent for 4 frames” Instead of storing the chroma and luma values of each pixel of the same area for the same 4frames. This is an oversimplification of the concept, but I hope it helps

Until Panasonic release a eva2 it’s a no go for me. It’s great but not being able to carry a bag of lenses and tools that work across multiple platforms I’ll have to stay away from Panasonic. Hey Caleb. Still holding on to my GH5's (I have 3 of them). Got to say that outside of the photography side - yes I know the GH5 isn't really a photographer's camera - I'm not feeling the loss of the shallow depth of field you get from a full frame sensor. Low light however is a biggie for me as most of my work is indoors where I just need more from the ISO without the noise. Having come from Nikon DSLR's the autofocus on the GH5 was awesome but reality kicks in of course and now I just say what everyone has said for ages........it does focus well but is totally unreliable to lock onto my subjects for more than few seconds at a time 🥺. I would love to swap all three cameras out but even keeping within M43's architecture that's a big outlay........the cost of changing to a full frame sensor like the S5ii is just impossible to think about when it's not just the bodies but getting a whole suite of lens.

 @Giovanni-Giorgio Yep, that lens has been on the "buy it" list for a while now. I guess overall I'm struggling with the need to capture at ranges from 2.5m from subject through to 40m while still capturing either full body height or if possible get right into half body height like I used to when filming from 30-35m back using Nikon D7200 and a Sigma 150-600mm. My only lens that can't stay at f2.8 is the 12-60 f2.8-4 but I must admit the 25mm f1.7 is pretty sweet although not as versatile or fast as the Sigma 18-35.

Not long before the S5II got announced i bought the A7IV. A camera i really liked even with the simillar rolling shutter performance. So the moment the S5II was announced i knew i f-ed up and needed to sell the sony with some lovely lenses including the Sony 35mm f1.4 GM that served me well. Thank god for Lumix S prime lenses with their focus breathing performance. Sony had the feature Focus breathing compensation that worked with Sony GM lenses. Worked great too but not for 3rd party lenses. The Lumix S lenses being less sharp doesn't matter too much when shooting video, maybe more at 6K open gate. Still lovely and not too expensive. I have to give it to Panasonic for their features and firmware updates. I probably need to upgrade or rent S5IIX for some jobs but for now i'm set.

Hi. I’ve been trying to settle on a hybrid camera and have been comparing this to Canon R6ii, Sony A7iv, etc. Curious as to how you compare this with the Sony? Not sure which way to go. Will use for photo and video. Everything from scenery, talking heads, long lens bird photography (I guess not much choice of long lenses for S5ii).
@Giovanni-Giorgio
@Giovanni-Giorgio 3 ай бұрын
@@hervedelnorte7928 It all depends on how you will use the camera. I picked the A7IV because i did hybrid shooting on events where i had to switch fast between photo and video mode a lot. Then the Sony is easier to use and quicker. It also turns on faster. I used both cameras for a while both with the sigma 24-70mm f2.8. For both cams a match madebin heaven. I like the color rendering of the S5II out of the box, but the image quality of the A7IV raw is better in my opinion. More headroom in post. The S5II has the custom realtime LUT feature where you can shoot photographs with baked-in LUT and save RAW at same time. That is okay if you have little time editing the photos in Lightoom etc. But those Sony 33 mp images wete the sweet spot for me, nice step up from my old camera. S5II has bit faster burst shooting for your bird photography. Overall A7IV wins photo mode. Video is a mixed bag. A7IV had some sensor crop advanges with that 33 mp sensor. APS-C crop + extra zoom-in feature without quality loss turned a prime lens into a sharp zoom lens. Sharper sampled 4K with high bitrate all-i footage. If bitrate matters pick the S5II-X. Color rendering of S5II v-log is bit better, but i did like grading the sony footage too. With V-log you have to nail exposure etc. for best noise levels etc. With Sony you had to nail exposure for best skin tones. The A7IV has the better autofocus system. Yes panasonic did nice job but it simply isn't as good or reliable. With sony you can tab an object on screen and it tracks pretty darn good. Not with panasonic. With the S5II i lost focus more than i would want. That's why i use the joystick to set and move focus point/area the most. Also lost focus with hand gestures where a hand passes the subjects face. Mic-in quality better on Sony too. But then there is panasonic with some pro video monitoring features, 6k open gate, a load of recording resolutions/formats, Realtime LUTs, focus transition, live crop transition, waveform/vectorscope and wut not. In body stabilization is overall better and usable on the S5II, except for wide angle with the wobbly corners. So nice cam for handheld work. I used the DJI RS3 Pro gimball a lot so no problems with the A7IV. I like using the panasonic better for b-roll shots and studio work. And i'm used to work with 6k and higher so the S5II wins hands down. I liked the button lay-out of A7IV and customiability better but not the grip. Viewfinder on the S5II is better. Lens arsenal for Sony E-mount is pure heaven, but panasonic is gaining ground. Then there is the price difference in the advantage of panasonic and the affordable well balanced primes. Good luck mate ;)

The S5IIX is a great camera! So many of the great aspects of Panasonic are included here. I own it and use it for professional work. And there's nothing wrong with that. It does have some BIG fails, however, in my opinion: 1. MOIRE due to lack of OLPF. The GH4 had this filter, then the GH5 and 6 didn't have the filter, but moire didn't seem to be a problem on these cameras. Moire IS a problem on the S5II and X because Panasonic didn't put the OLPF filter in. This limits where you can use the camera and makes filming weddings/brides/suits with complex patterns Russian Roulette. I would not use the S5IIX on a high end shoot as an A camera because of this. Panasonic MUST put an OLPF into the S1H Mark II or S5III. Only way to solve on the S5IIX is to spend 700 dollars and void the warranty of the S5II to get an OLPF from a third party (Kolari) installed. 2. Rolling shutter performance. It's SHIT. Enough said. Not good for sports or action. Unacceptable from Panasonic when competitors have faster readout sensors (Canon) or global shutters (Sony.) 3. Crop in 4K 60 or lack of slow motion in 6K Open Gate. Serious bummer for work like real estate. 4. Recording lag, especially in higher bit rate modes. There's noticeable lag when pressing record. Made me miss some shots. Irritating. 5. This isn't an S5II fail, but more a Panasonic fail--there's no true "pro" body from Panasonic that has an OLPF and PDAF.

@@mex5341 The camera costs over 2K with tax and was 2200 at launch. So that’s your first error. You are correct that no perfect camera exists, however in the case of the S5IIX, Panasonic could have distinguished the video specific model from the S5II even more by having an OLPF and a few other features. I would gladly pay closer to 3K for a smaller S1H that has PDAF and an OLPF, because right there you’re providing so much latitude in what you can film. As the S5IIX exists now, it’s a very capable, cheap B-cam, and for some professional applications, can be an A-Cam. But it could have been the A-Cam on far more shoots with a few tweaks.

G9II vs S5II ? I know, MFT vs FF, I honestly could care piss about the sensor size, to me, ability to have a 30-90mm F1.8 zoom lens on a MFT camera is mind boggling, or even slapping on Sigma and get 26-50mm F1.3 And if I need something lighter weight, well the sky is the limit with MFT, a lot of lenses that are lightweight, Olympus 12-100mm F4? Ridicules lens that one, Leica 12-60mm F2.8-4 is also a beast. I think a lot of photographers forget that glass is more important than the sensor, in low light you really need to up that ISO to match one stop of bonus light of a speedbooster, you can easily go from 800 to 3200 just to match a 0.64x speedbooster, why people are sleeping on this is beyond me, FF is nice I own the S5II, but the lenses are so heavy and full frame starts falling apart at higher ISO's, suddenly at 12800 ISO you have the same dynamic range of a MFT camera at 6400 ISO, then what? If someone told me in 2012 that we would have so many options, and such good feature rich cameras, I tell them to stop lying, but here we are 2024, whats stopping people? Even the cheapest Canon full frame, the Canon R8 shoots 4k60 with really high bitrate and 10bit colour, even LOG colour mode, cannot make this up, people who complain their gear is not good enough need to go back to film school.

@@Nils_Samp I spent days tweaking the s5ii and trust me here is what I learned: picture profiles other than V-Log are a joke. V-Log struggles due to the low end of 640, as for 4000 iso, nobody wants to go there and image becomes so digital, making even V-Log not well enough. Idk if it’s just me, but I feel like all cameras with dual native iso are limiting except the Canon c70, which is a God level DR beast at least in my experience.

@@standclear23 obviously I am just speaking of vlog and it is fantastic. 640 in daylight and 4000 at night is perfect combined with the 1.8 primes from Panasonic. I am not one of those people who cares so much about spec sheets and numbers. Similar to CineD, I always take every camera I try to same location with the same lighting setup and always tweak things. I don’t think I will convince you, and I didn’t think you can too… But either way: smaller sensor, less megapixels, is always better for video cameras. And I have not tried a camera that came close to the Canon C70. Again, not saying you can’t get the image to look similar, but all other cameras seem to make sacrifices as to give you a comfortably beautiful image, at a base iso that’s so clean in low light. Again, to clarify, the a7siii could destroy the c70 at iso 12800 if we put them side by side. But you and I know so well that even the thought of getting to that iso on ANY camera will make your image ugly. If you think I have no idea what I am saying, get the a7siii out somewhere dark, put it at iso 12800, double your shutter speed and get 120p 4k. And you will see how usabe that image will be.

I do a lot of travel documentary production work. I tend to grab a MFT camera when I’m in a moving vehicle shooting sideways unless it’s getting dark. Rolling shutter is noticeable. 😂 But for 80% of the time, it’s a fantastic camera. I use the EF Sigma Art 24-70 f/2.8 for most of my work and it’s freaking amazing quality. My second most used lens is a Canon 135mm f/2L USM. It’s unreal. Both lenses are adapted and AF works extremely well. Skin tones are better on the S5 than the S5II, but no camera is 100% perfect. You have to get out of the mindset of “one camera to rule them all…” and during your storytelling journey, you’ll understand the strengths and limitations of your gear. And even when looking at limitations, you balance that with what gets you the best results! I just got back from a trip into the jungles of Guatemala. I took the S5II as my primary cam, along with the previously mentioned 24-70 and the 135. That’s it on the lenses. I’m sure folks are like “WTH!?!….I’d take X, Y and Z….” My second cam was an OM-5. Yep. A little MFT cam. Had the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4 Lens and the OG Panasonic Limix G X Vario 35-100MM, F2.8 ASPH Lens. Both those lenses are pretty old by today’s standards. But I can get absolutely incredible quality with them because I know how to use them and dial them in with relative ease. Yes. I have many other lenses for my S5II. 16-35, Lumix 50 & Sigma Art 50, 85, 70-200, 70-300, and even the old Sigma Art 18-35 f/1.8. But I didn’t need them. The gear I took with me, along with lights, drone, mics and batteries, got the job done. Too much gear for a single shooter in crazy tough conditions, creates completely unnecessary problems. The S5II is a tank. It works. And I agree 100% that the 6K open gate spoils us absolutely rotten. And if it doesn’t do what I need, I grab the camera that can offer what it’s missing. That’s just me though. I’m not trying to outfit all of the internet with gear. I’m just trying to pay bills, provide for the family, tell some amazing stories, have a little fun along the way and live a life that hopefully shines some light into the darkness of world.

Dude, the video picture is much too sharp with disgusting high frequenzy digital noise, so you look much older as you are. - and your S5 on the tripod is focus pumping on your beard and hands like crazy. After seeing this video, i would never buy a S5II, this cam needs first a good low/high pass filter and a much better AF.
