We went on a Day Trip to Venice, Italy during our Italian vacation, totally excited to visit what we expected to be one of the best places to visit in Italy… Things did NOT go as planned! Thank you so much, I hope that you have a great time!! Definitely would recommend Lake Garda and the Madonna Della Corona if you find yourself in/near Verona and have extra time!

Watch out for those birds! We have not been, but if we plan a trip we will definitely keep your experiences in mind to be prepared! I didn't know about the accessibility challenges. Glad you two were able to make it there, even though it wasn't what you were expecting.

hahah they're out to get you!! Yes, it was a one-of a kind place for sure, it just does have some drawbacks that are worth considering! And right? At least we won't be wondering what it's like there anymore lol

Its good to know these things because like you said a lot of videos just show the positives. I think Venice still looks really beautiful but expectations will make a trip much more enjoyable. xx

Hi and thanks Krystal & Eric for sharing. The audience including myself appreciates your honesty. I can feel the hesitance to promote the tour to Venice, but you had actually a negative experience. I am certain that people all over the world desire to visit Venice, especially after the pandemic restriction was eased. Well, I was considering a plan to visit Venice, but better wait for a little longer. There is a beach, Venice in FL...🤣 Again, thank you, and keep coming. 😎

haha thank you for your kind words! We wanted to share our experience so others are prepared, I'm glad you appreciated it! And hahaha yes, I think Venice, FL is a little cheaper and much easier to get to - maybe travel there first! lol

We went to Venice before I was filming my travels for KZfaq and it was even a bit stressful then. We were lugging around our suitcases and those stairs really do get you. If we went now with my hubby's knee issues it would not be a great experience.

We really appreciate that! We wanted to share so that others can go to Venice with a full picture of what it's like (or maybe decide to just go to Verona instead hahah).

Thanks for the video! I go to Venice about once a year for 7 to 10 days. I think you hit on a lot of good points. There is however still a hidden Venice. After living on the Giudecca for a semester in graduate school and returning for the past 24 years I'm still experiencing new places.

I'm glad that your experiences have been so positive! We have heard since the trip that Venice requires staying overnight in the city to develop a full appreciation for it, due to less tourists being in the city at night. Would you agree with that? How was living there? That seems like a very unique experience!

@@krystalanderic oh! Definitely stay in the historic center. You don't really understand Venice unless you immerse yourself in it! I am now going to less touristy spots that still excite me - like the church of Saint Helen which holds the remains of Emperor Constantine's mother...or Palazzo Grimini which recently reinstalled a significant collection of statues from antiquity. A major restoration of the iconostasis was also recently completed at the basilica on Torcello. Then there's revisiting friends I've met along the way...all fun stuff. Living in Venice is amazing! I studied with two Venetian counts - Mario di Valmarana (whose family owns the Villa Rotunda in Vicenza) and Clemente di Thiene (whose family ruled Thiene, Italy). The director of the Guggenheim at the time, Philip Rylands, was my art instructor. Venice can be overwhelming but once you stay there for a bit you really begin to feel the city in a special and unique way. Try reading No Vulgar Hotel: The Desire and Pursuit of Venice...that book sums it up by describing people like me as Venetofiles and Lagoonatics!

That sounds like a truly incredible experience studying with individuals of such high esteem - once in a lifetime really! If we end up going back, I'll definitely be checking with you first to get the latest and greatest on what to see and do! :D

Going to Venice this June, only visiting due to it being a unique city. Otherwise I prefer the smaller towns like Verona

I hope you have a great time! We definitely don't regret our visit, we just wish someone had level set our expectations (and we definitely prefer cities like Verona as well 😂) Let us know what it's like now that it's a couple of years later - I'm very curious!

Venice city council is struggling to get a central government law to curb short-term rent in historic centre. Housing prices push residents out of the real estate market in the historic center. The resident population of Venice in the major islands is drastically reducing due to the high cost of housing and living (93,000 residents in 1981 - 50,000 residents in 2022) #49999 #venexodus
