The upcoming summer will see clubs across Europe fight for Viktor Gyökeres, the man who has more goal contributions than both Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé at the moment. After quite a few years in England without making a Premier League appearance, he found success at Coventry before exploding this season at Sporting. So, who is Viktor Gyökeres? He’s been spoken about as the next big thing here in Sweden for a couple of years. Brommapojkarna is my local team, like the ground and training facility is a 15 min walk away from my mother’s house where I grew up. It’s crazy how much talent they have developed considering the club hasn’t been doing too well for a while. Also you did ok with pronunciation the 2nd time.

Now imagine Jardel who scored 52 goals in 39 games for Sporting in 2002. We won league and cup double and he won the european golden shoe. Monster!

Jardel was a completely different player, he was a target man, if the players feeding him were good jardel would just bang in goals for fun, but thats all he would do, he would not run at defenders, open space for team mates or help with pressing. Jardel was the best goalscorer i ever saw in Portugal, eusebio was retired by the time i was born and CR7 made his goals away from Portugal, back in the day having jardel was a 90% chance of winning the league, in portugal he won 4 in 5 both for porto and sporting before his personal problems caught up with him and his career went into a steep decline. Jardel was a bigger goalscorer, but Gyokeres is the better all round player. And when it comes to sporting we can't count out Bas Dost he also scored a lot of goals, he just played for weaker sporting team than Gyokeres.

As a Sporting fan, it has been really a joy to watch Gyokeres play. He is an absolute viking of a monster. But an comparison that I can make to a player that we've seen in the past is to David Trezeguet. A player that rarely offers in the defensive contribution of the game, but in the offensive aspect he is always at right place at the right time. Whether is with one on one confrontations or the power shot to the back of the net. Like I said, very similar to David Trezeguet.

Gyokeres' best trait is how he can maneuver his physicality. Unlike haaland he can just pick the ball up and run towards a defender.

@@randomyoutubecommenter2787If I can answer he (or Forsberg) is probably our most important player even though we played like crap the last few years. Always plays with heart and determination, much more so than Isak who has been poor for us. He also has the quality but hasn’t been used well by our manager. Hopefully our new manager finds him and Isak a better role, and now with Gyökeres our attack looks really good.

@@calle9368lol Isak has basically been mismanaged by your poor NT coaches. He is by far your best player. But sadly you scandinavian farmers prefer work rate over pure quality. That's why Sweden has never won a cup.. look what you did to Ibra. Isak has performed in Spain and now is doing the same in England already. I signed Gyorkeres from Brighton in my FM 21 save, and 5 years later, he is worth 175 million on my save. I just find it funny how good he has become and how he's lived up to his standards

As a Cov fan I was so sad to see him go but so suprised he didn't end up in the prem. Very glad he's smashing it in Portugal though. Watching him last season it was mad that his finishing was not very clinical but his work rate was so crazy he just kept going at defenders until he scored

As a swede I really hope so too. We have a great history of swedes in Milan and he will get more love there than in Chelsea for example. Zlatan could also help him a lot. But going to Milan isn’t very realistic considering his release clause…

My friends cousin works for his agent, and he said that when HCM sportsmanagement asked what he could deliver, Viktor said:"I can score you goal, and deliver goals when needed!".. Well they answered something like if you deliver that we can deliver a big european team! Seems to be working pretty well!

its extremely fun watching gyökeres highlights. But maybe he isn't the right guy for Arenal. Maybe it is Kai Havertz growing into the 9 at Arsenal, since he can be a target man, he can play with his back to the goal and link up, he is very versatile. I think depending on Arteta wanting Rice on the 6 or the 8 that open slot will be the first area Arsenal will target a major signing on. It's crazy to think Arsenal unlocks Havertz. Chelsea couldn't do it in 3 years when he was the biggest german talent of all times right before he joined them. Of what you guys describe Gyökeres would be an ideal target for Tottenham or Bayern (to the left of kane).

Coventry made him the player you see now. It's down to avi viveas our assistant manager and coach even though he wasn't keen on Mark Robins paying 1m for him. Lisbons opening offer was 12m lol but our owner played a blinder getting 20m plus 15% sell on clause. This is good business for coventry as he only had a year left on his contract. Another who got sold with one year left on his contract was Gus Hamer was our star midfielder who went for 15m to sheff United who are getting thrashed every week and are bottom.

It wasn't oversight from EPL clubs. It was finances. Most of the mid table clubs that he would have started at didn't have funds until late in the window. Wolves had a very serious interest in him, would have bought him, but couldn't spend the money on a player of that caliber until after the Nunez sale. And we can see now with Everton and Forest that that decision was the correct thing to do.

Arsenal need a player like Gyorkeres badly, but imo if Amorim ends up at Liverpool wouldn't be surprised if they come in for him. A striker partnership between him and Nunez would be interesting to say the least. If Salah ends up leaving there would definitely be room for him if you shuffle the team around a bit.

If anyone thinks a reject wont excel at top clubs, remember bruno fernandes. He came to united at the age of 27. He starts shining in 25 y/o. After two succesful consecutive season, he earned PL transfer to MU. He also was a reject in Serie A.

You know what all those names have in common? Every single one came from either Benfica or Porto (except Ugarte, but Ugarte is at PSG, every player sucks once he gets to PSG, cause it isnt a team, its a collection of players). Sporting only sells class. Palhinha, Matheus Nunes, Porro, Bruno Fernandes, etc Benfica is the biggest flop factory in the world because of their deals with Jorge Mendes (football agent), that uses his connections to oversell the flops so he gets a bigger comission on the deal.

Saw every game of him this season. From a die hard Sporting fan he sits in the same table as Falcão and Bruno Fernandes in terms of what they done in PT league. Since first game (scored a brilliant brace against vizela, i was there ahhah) i said he would be a phenomenon. What a player. Like they said, not exactly a target man but in the right formation and playstyle he might Become of the very best players in the world in near future. Hope he brings the championship to Sporting in May💚
