The Toronto Star had published it in the on-line newspaper - 1 hour later, Tory decided to come clean. No, he wasn't being 'honest' - he'd already been outed. The big question is who tipped the Star off? I don't know why such men think their affair is such a big secret when it's with office personnel. I guarantee that at least one person in his office - if not everyone - knew damm well.

That’s the missing piece here. The workplace affair between the highest manager - the Mayor or CEO of Toronto - and a junior staffer undoubtedly affected everyone in that workplace. Saying “the wrong thing” in front of, or upsetting the Mayor’s beloved might be a career and job ending gaffe. How can people openly and freely discuss city-business related issues when those discussions might be the subject of pillow talk later that evening. I’ve encountered situations where junior paramours have used their relationships as clubs to assert their status as Lord or Lady of the Manor. (Although there is no evidence that this happened here.) People have mentioned that the relationship was consensual. Did the rest of City Hall staff consent to being supporting players in the Toronto-based remake of I, Claudius? Mr. Tory brought his personal issues into the workplace. I do believe he’s been a good Mayor. But, it’s time to go. And he owes the staff an apology for dragging them through this.

If he decides to start seeing someone else, that is NONE of our business either. Years ago my wife dealt with this at a major Cdn. bank: the manager was gifted a branch in a monied area, so he LOOKED capable, was madly in love with one teller, busy banging another, and married. The only thing that unravelled it was an aunt of the VP downtown was transferred, walked in and saw what was going on, and blew the whistle. The Manager got demoted, finally. But the collateral stress for years was evident (the one teller KNEW she'd never be called out; the other made a lot of mistakes, and back in those days my wife had to unravel them at days' end to get balances correct for the day. You didn't leave until that happened. BUT, and this is a big big BUTT: those women took the advances and played the system AT THE EXPENSE of fellow employees. there was and is a lot of blame to go around.

John Tory's legacy whether he likes it or not is rising crime in the city especially on the TTC, a citywide Homelessness crisis, bothched proposals for Smart Track and a Rail Deck Park and his affair with a staffer younger than half his age. He is going to be remembered as a joke now like Rob Ford. If he could have just disciplined/kept his Johnson in his pants for another 3 years he would have been the longest serving elected Mayor in Toronto history and likely have buildings, schools, parks and streets named after him in the future. Now I doubt parents want their kids going to a school or playing in a park named after a man who cheated on his wife of 40 years and duped the voters into re-electing him while he was having an active affair during his 2022 re-election campaign.

He said "post Me Too era" but just a reminder it wasn't Me Too that revealed scandalous affairs back in the 70's and 80's and it wasn't Me Too that first sought litigation over these. There's been a growing scrutiny for decades but Me Too is associated with a very divided time politically, where some high profile individuals got cancelled by people who used the hashtag #MeToo. It became a trendy, albeit sincere in many cases, claim of victimhood although lawsuits and cancellations did exist prior to this. Me Too on twitter has had its time of popularity but the era of scrutinizing and judging relationships began long before and will continue long after.

@@Strawberryknight My wife worked at a major bank branch and TWO of her fellow tellers were more than willing to bang the branch manager for an "easy" ride. Posters ASSUME too much. The manager was married and these two knew damn well what they were doing.

Yes, the poor 31-year old, so powerless and helpless. Clearly forced into a relationship against her will. No possible way any woman over the age of 30 when her brain hasn't fully formed yet could possibly of her own volition ever want to enter into an affair with a married man. @@mensrea1251 after decades I'm amazed and incredulous that media wants all these stories to "fit" into a CANNNED RESULT. No, each story is unique and she ISN'T 19 AND ON her first real job. I've dealt with that in biz. and union work. AND put a stop to it. What real men do is take your friend, mayor or not, for a little walk and "chit chat".

It's unprofessional office conduct, against city policy, a conflict of interest in the public workplace, and reveals dishonest characteristics of a leader who we should be trusting with the power we gave him. He was doing this for years. He blew it and he knows it.

simple case of dereliction of duty. one can't be courting and f*cking at the work place, and doing your job at the same time, unless your job is courting and f&cking. his resignation should be refused, and then they both should be fired with no pension period.

I don’t know one thing about this mayor except for this affair. Was he effective in his job? In this day and age of total immoral life styles and perversion I hardly think that his behaviour, although I don’t condone it, is any worse than the actions of the Prime Minister of Canada. His appearances on drag queen tv adds are a disgrace for the world to see as if it was normal behaviour for a leader of a country. Shame and disgrace is what he has displayed around the world. So let’s see these reporters call him to account and demand his resignation. His behaviour goes far beyond an affair.

The Star is just looking for sensationalism as usual... He was estranged from his wife... He should not lose his job over this... this should be a family issue... The Star should print stories that impact the world and all of us...not this kind of thing...
