I own a 2013 C207 with 29K on the clock and this ticking sound has been part of my experience since new. I have asked many different service advisors and mechanics and all say that this is normal injectors noise and not to worry, so I haven't, and all has been great!

I've had the intake plenum replaced on my E350 and it's been pretty bulletproof so far! I'd love the V8 but gas would kill me lol.

The turbo 8 gets me 16-19 city and 27-30 highway and I’m tuned. I doubt the v6 is much better. So much power available you don’t need to use much fuel so you end up breaking even or even doing better depending how you drive. The m273 NA V8 is def not as efficient. But, for me it’s better than my 2014 Lacrosse AWD V6, and my cost of fuel went from 220->250-60 per month. Not a bad increase all things considered. (87->93 octane)

Nice contents. Keep it up for w212 platform. I got my 15 e63s and buy a extended warranty. The engine and transmission mount fix already paid off the warranty cost. Plan to retire my AMG after the warranty expired

Enjoy it! Don’t be afraid to own it out of warranty. I’ve done it all from small fixes to engine replacement. Some things are super manageable- they only get out of hand when entire components need replacing. Turbos are solid to 150k+ at least I’ve seen, forged internals hold up very well, top ends in the 2015+ are very solid and fixes the material issues in previous engines. You may be in for a $10k + rebuild or overhaul after 150-170k but that might be well worth it. I think the w212 facelift is the BEST looking sedan they’ve made in recent years. Great sound, performance and tunability with the turbos. Plus, the chassis itself is known and proven to hit 250-300k miles without many faults. Thanks for watching I have a bunch of videos lined up, just very hard to find the time to button them up! Stay tuned for one this weekend!

Mechanically my 2014 E350 coupe has been bulletproof. 119k miles on it now and not a single problem. Just keep up with routine maintenance. Get about 20 - 22 in city, 30 - 32 highway. On my last trip from Western KY to South Alabama I averaged 32mpg all highway at mostly 75 - 80mph. The only problem I have is the seats bolstering doesn't work. And the steering wheel will not go up/down anymore. Common issue that I need to get sorted. At some point I'll want to trade out for a 550 model but all in due time. Enjoying this for the time being.

ayoooo, yess certainly the m278 engine is not as reliable as the m276, but you get 400 hp stock and very tunable without having to pay the AMG tax, the only problem that we are facing is buying a high miles one with no maintenance record, and you don't know what the prev owner did, for mine aprently there was oil starvation to the top end, leading for the camshaft to be scored, to play it safe everything in both banks will be replaced, and we will hope for the best lol
@mrapter7
@mrapter7 Жыл бұрын
Yep they share similar issues. However the v6 is cheaper to replace and easier to work on due to more space. That’s actually looking to be my next vehicle tbh. I’m tuned currently and the 276tt puts down incredibly respectable numbers
@mrapter7
@mrapter7 Жыл бұрын
Just re reading this. Yes scored cams are a somewhat common isssue. If it goes to long like mine did, it’ll throw metal in the oil causing the rest of the engine to be questionable

2010 e550 owner here, I’m comming up on 180k miles this year and looking to pick up a 2012 here soon. I’ve got an extensive background in mechanical engineering, worked in a few dealerships (poor pay, wasn’t for me) but I do all my own maintenance, and other than filters and regular maintenance the only major repair I’ve had to do was rear main battery, alternator, and serpentine. The 5.5l v8 has been nothing but bulletproof for me, and I’m honestly scared to let it go for the 4.7l, but I’m extremely tempted knowing the power potential. I’m out of things to mess with on the 5.5, exhaust, wheels and tires, tuned off a plug and play piggyback. This post is getting long so TLDR; I want a 2012-2013 E550 4matic to tune and have fun with, do you think it would be worthwhile? Thanks!

Nope. Keep yours. Don’t even get in this bath. I’m doing it and would rather have yours even with my 680lb ft. That NA will last forever and ever.

@@mrapter7 I bought a e550 2010 in October but I ain’t realized that the air bags to raise the car were damage so I had to pay almost 4k out of my pocket to get it fix..other then that big problem theres is no other issues I have with it btw it’s fun to drive always makes me smile when I can hear the exhaust when I push the gas even tho it’s stock 🔥

I currently have a 2016 E400 (3L biturbo M276 DELA 30), driving like new at 110k miles. Interior is basically untouched and the paint is almost as good. Previous owner worked at a dealer and therefore had it serviced regularly. Unfortunately, I'm not comfortable doing any significant mods/tunes since more HP at this mileage isn't a good idea. Been looking at the E550's. Just craving the modability, power, and sound of the V8. Should I stick to what I have for now? Or keep my eyes out for a trade
@mrapter7
@mrapter7 2 ай бұрын
Nah, keep yours. The engine is far more robust as it’s not as high output, doesn’t have as much heat, which is the real killer over time. You can tune these safely to nearly tuned 550 numbers (about 100lb ft less torque) at about 500hp and 590lb compared to 540/700. Realistically I doubt you’d feel a difference. The issues I talk about really happen on the v8. Besides, your 2016 is one of the latest revisions, the issues I speak about generally are fixed by then. You have checkvalves, updated parts, better cylinder sleeves etc. Assuming your engine is healthy (bring it to a Benz specialist, tell them you want to lightly tune and want to check the health. If it’s a green light, a stage 1 tune won’t do anything to accelerate engine wear with similar use and normal pulls, fun stuff. I wouldn’t track it constantly tho. To be fair, once it’s time to let my 550 go, I was looking at a 2016 e400 coupe since it’s more reliable but outputs great tuned power. Again, stage 1 Eurocharged on these or even a slightly custom lower powered tune will wake it up without real issues. Change oil more frequently and that’s about it. For an intermediate solution or bonus to the tune, you can get your car coded (I have contact info for you) to eliminate pedal lag, give you better shift options and modes, and unlock tons of cool stuff available in other parts of the world. I’ve had this done for 3 years wouldn’t drive another Benz without it.

@@mrapter7 Wow! I was under the impression that these engines wear a lot faster when upgraded. Thanks for replying. I took mine to a very good euro shop for a pre-purchase inspection and everything looks good except regular maintenance (tires, break pads etc). When you say take it to a Benz specialist for a health check, is that what you mean? Or do you mean an actual tuner who looks at engine performance data. I would definitely get a stage 1 tune if I knew it wouldn't affect the longevity of the car. I haven't heard about coding a car before, sounds interesting. Gonna look into that right now.
@mrapter7
@mrapter7 2 ай бұрын
@sb2h ANY engine wears faster when tuned if you don’t also increase your maintenance intervals. More power means 3-5k MAX on oil changes, transmission serviced before due time every time (70k miles in the book, I wouldn’t go past 50k without a oil and filter change for $350), and service your 4matic if you have it with fluid changes when you get your trans done. Fluid changes are like 250 for 4matic, probably can do that and tranny for under 500. As far as who to go to, if you can go to a tuner for sure, otherwise any specialized mechanic who works on these cars. The engine is super common in non-turbo form so it’s super familiar. And the v8 is just two more cylinders with the same engineering. You want a compression test done, really. If you have good compression you can basically stop there, get fresh plugs and tune. If you aren’t 100% healthy on the compression, you’re still totally fine but, that may open the door for faster wear if there’s issues already. Again, a 2016 m276tt is basically not going to have these issues but you never know. This is essentially the same engine in the first gen e43. They rebadged the e400 essentially and threw on AMG parts and transmission. Take a look at “W212 Owners Club” on Facebook. About 130k members. You’ll see me super active there with the admin. I get nothing from it but he’s a wizard with coding and can really do blessings on your car, and has for thousands of group members. The group itself is insanely positive, properly maintained and close knit. Great group of guys and community. Join up and tag me in your first post! We can get you coded up and ready for the next leg in your w212 journey

Yep, all that sounds super normal maintenance post 50-70k miles. Or, at least preventative. Plugs need to be done 15-30k miles, air filters are cheap and can be done at home. Magnets + pigtail extensions are cheap and easy to do at home as well with sensors I did all my coolant hoses at 100k because I was already in there for water pump work. How many miles did you have on it when the work was done? Sounds like you’re doing everything you can to make her run the best for the longest time
