Hey angels happy Monday! Let's dive into the alleged TikTok crystal live scams. There are so many companies out there using TikTok lives to promote their crystals. But there have been some issues, scamming, etc. Remember not all crystal shops are scams and not all things are scams. But it's good to bring some awareness, have some conversations about some things I think can be a problem, and more. Remember I'm always willing to listen to any info shared from professionals so comment below!! I love learning as a fellow crystal lover! Also, check out the 2 crystal shops I have linked in the description that you can shop from *EDIT: This is a start to a mini series I am hoping to create on this topic! I'm finding out more as I read comments, look through my emails, etc. Stay tuned*

I’m a geologist with some training in gemology, and I’ll add that sometimes when the crystals are real, many of them may not be ethically sourced. There’s a real lack of transparency in where retailers may be getting their crystals. In some cases the only real way to make sure the mining/cutting/polishing of these crystals are sustainable and ethical is to have a working relationship with the mines/miners themselves. If a crystal is ‘cheap’ it requires the buyer to dig deeper to find out why. Sure it could be fake, or treated, but it also could mean someone/something is being taken advantage of.

This-I wish the thing people cared most about was the devastating human and environmental cost rather than just losing a few bucks. I’m not saying people deserve to be preyed upon by any means- but I do think it’s our responsibility as consumers to do our due diligence in shopping as ethically as possible and not just buy buy buy for fun/stress relief/whatever. The larger issue is our obsession with consumption for the sake of it. It’s a pretty decoration, not a lifesaving medical treatment. I promise y’all you have some time to sit on it and also google around and learn about where things come from and just what they cost. The number of people talking about literally throwing them in the trash (which is ofc partially an anger thing abt being scammed) is so depressing for so many reasons.

I spent years buying and collecting small crystals/stones before their recent surge in popularity. This was encouraged by my spiritual advisors. I have learned more about how they are sourced and realized there is no good “energy” behind them. I’ve realized they are just one more piece of clutter I don’t want in my life.

True fact: if you have fallen for one scam, you are statistically MORE likely to fall for another scam over someone who has never been scammed. Con artists are KEENLY aware of this fact. They will specifically look for people who have been scammed before because they know those people are more likely to fall for something again. In other words, they are not looking for anyone left YET to be scammed, they are targeting people who have already been getting scammed in other places.

I once got scammed a few hundred from this guy who had this whole thing about him and his kids being homeless and living out of their car, was posted on a few legit crowdfunding sites. It seemed so legit as many others were also falling from it. Anyway before I started getting suspicious the dude sent me a few messages about his son having an asthma attack and he was asking for money to get an inhaler. I missed that message and the next one was about his son dying???? I literally thought I could've prevented a child's death I was devastated for a few days before I found out it was a scam. Regardless it was really hard to be a kind person after that but I still try. Just have to be careful 😭

My very first thought going through my head watching the first girl pull the stones was- why isn’t she clearly showing them to the camera? To the point that it felt intentional how quickly she was scooping them up and getting them off screen but now it makes perfect sense knowing that people aren’t actually getting what they are scooping out so she’s very much counting on you not clearly seeing them, just a gross deceptive tactic 😒

I was so addicted to these a year or two ago, and I do feel like in the beginning they had people hosting that 1. Knew the crystals and 2. Knew which ones should be put in the tumbler. I saw people keeping fragile crystals out or pulling out broken crystals from orders, and would talk about the crystals they were adding to the orders. And then it blew up and there were 50+ channels and it’s was just get through as many orders as fast as possible.

For those doubting Anna's answer, there are two types of rock tumblers-rotary and vibrating. This is a vibrating tumbler, it's used when you want to polish your rocks but not necessarily smooth off the rough edges.
@Kimmaline

@@user-lp2nz7vq6b no, that machine IS a rock tumbler. The thing you call a sifter is actually for polishing rocks. so i kept seeing these lives on tiktok and got curious, so i bought a couple of these scoops and actually took them to a local crystal shop and had them go through everything. i ordered mine from fadkeys. i did receive everything, but after having the local shop evaluate everything i received, the conclusion that i came to is that the quality you are receiving is absolutely not worth the money you are spending. a lot of it was fake and what wasn't fake was extremely poor quality. basically, what they are putting in these scoops are the types of things that reputable crystal shops would never try to sell, not even for extremely discounted prices. these companies draw people in with these extremely cheap prices and get away with it because a lot of people who are buying from them do not have any real knowledge about what is fake and what is poor quality.

@@IsabellaLanter This has happened to me as well. They will clone a craft fair ad on Facebook or Instagram with the correct location, logos/fonts, etc, even research the fair so it looks legit when you email them for more information. When you go to pay the booth fee however, they want you to send it through something like PayPal Friends and Family, which has no protection for the sender. I didn't know that until it was too late. PayPal will NOT help you get your money back in those instances, either. I have been doing craft fairs for many years, and it is so difficult now to tell which ones posting online are legit. There are some tell-tale signs though, like if the account/person posting has any connection to the location the craft fair is in (ie lives in a nearby city, works in the same town etc), or if it is a burner account with no info whatsoever, and if there are some incredibly glaring grammar errors in their posts or correspondence. Even that one was difficult to spot, because the response email I was sent had an official looking craft fair signature on the bottom and the grammar was very good (Source: I'm an ESL teacher by day, crafter by weekend.)

That 7 will get eaten up. 😥 I wanted to get a moonstone ring once but was talked out of it because of how soft moonstone is. Ever since I’ve paid attention to mixing crystals in videos ever since.

While I don't have experience with the crystal scams, I've been a whistleblower for over a decade. And I can say: Some scams are REALLY hard to get ahold of. As even their victims defend it. Like, I've mostly done art scams. And there it's a very... "fraud is just a business model!" type attitude. Like, the MLP fandom had a 100 % scam rate up until ~2019. And people get angry if you call it out, since "it only hurts everyone".

I have a substantial mineral/crystal collection so I knew something was fishy about these sellers when they portrayed resin pieces with little bits of crystal suspended in them as "real crystals". I also know enough to infer those scoops are going to be the same cheaper, common minerals over and over again (like quartz, agate, amethyst). BUT if I didn't have my years of collecting experience I would totally be sucked in. There's so much shady behavior in the mineral/crystal vendor community it's so bad it kind of desensitizes you to scams. Almost every vendor these days is lying to you about something (one notorious example is baked amethyst) so it becomes very difficult to tell when someone is misrepresenting their products. My heart goes out to every newbie collector. It's getting harder and harder to find good specimens out there.

I worked credit card fraud and disputes for 3 years, as well as work with courier services...and I am a shopaholic so what I can tell you is ALWAYS KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS, TAKE SCREENSHOTS, Read the description of what you are buying if available, check your shipping labels, and I know is hard and we wont do it all the time But record yourself opening the package, it might make you feel like one of those HAULS influencer, no hate! but its the best proof you have if you need to fight a refund or report a scam.

I keep seeing these crystal lives all the time! I've been dying to find someone who could explain the whole thing!

My best friend just got scammed a couple weeks ago. She ordered some items and when she got them they were either fakes, or not what was pictured. It's absolutely disgusting behavior from these scammers.

Another scam happening on TikTok with the same business tactic are the makeup accounts. They have this big bucket with a bunch of makeup in it were they scoop just like the crystal accounts. I've heard some people complaining about those too
