The Temple of Madness, aka Kudumiyanmalai Temple gets no visitors despite having some of the best carvings and architecture. Was it built by a bunch of madmen with no rhyme or reason? Or were the ancient builders simply too advanced for us? In this video, let us get inside the mind of the ancient sculptors and decode the carvings.

Hey guys, today we are going to look at an ancient temple called Shikanathar Temple, located in a remote village called Kudumiyanmalai. This temple is referred to as The Unsolved Puzzle by experts, because of its completely unexplainable, and unrelated carvings. Today, I am going to try to solve this puzzle and I want you to join me in understanding what the ancient builders were doing.
Some have claimed that this temple is showing twin carvings. For example, there are 2 apes who are identical placed opposite to one other. There are 2 identical warriors placed in front of one another. You can see 2 Beauties in the same way, and see many other carvings the same way. However, the theory that this temple is made of a bunch of twin carvings is also not accepted because in other places, there are non-identical carvings, you can see carvings like these opposite to one another, and they are not identical carvings and they don’t even look similar.
If we look at the carvings side by side, it gets even more confusing. For example, when we enter this 100 pillar hall, on the right side, you can see this beautiful six-headed God, called Karthikeya sitting on a peacock. But right next to that, you can see Narasimha, a lion headed deity killing a demon. There is no connection at all between the first carving and the second carving. And if you look on the left side, you can see the a similar problem, here is the elephant God Ganesha and right next to him, you can see this fantastic carving of a 10 headed figure called Ravana. And these figures are not connected, at least most people think that way. And you can go on and on, for example there is no connection between Ravana and this female deity. So, this random array of completely disconnected Gods, is never seen in any Hindu temple. Not just in ancient temples, even when they build new temples today, they still follow a pattern of connectivity between adjacent carvings. I mean, you should be able to see them, like you see the consecutive scenes of a movie. They don’t just throw a bunch of carvings here and there, there has to be a rhyme and reason. And because of this complete disconnect in this temple, experts and even pilgrims just don’t come here, I mean it is human tendency to ignore things you don’t understand. Even worse, some people have dismissed these carvings as the work of pure madness.
But it is not the fault of ancient builders, it is our fault because we are not looking carefully, and we are simply, not as smart as them. But let’s try to get into the mind of the architect, let’s experiment. If you enter this part of the temple, let’s say the first deity you look at, is this one, the elephant God Ganesha. But then you are supposed to look on the opposite side, this is his brother, this God on the peacock is the brother of Ganesha. This is the connectivity, this is how the carvings are arranged opposite to one another. I am sure some experts have noticed this pattern, but when they looked at these 2 carvings, may be they dismissed this theory. Here, you can see the 10 headed Demon called Ravana and on the opposite side, we can see the Lion Headed God, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. What is the connection between them? Most experts haven’t read all the ancient Indian texts, so they cannot see any connection between the two carvings. They are comparing a Demon to an avatar of God Vishnu. Who is the most powerful between the two? And more importantly, is there a connection between the two?

We have a hindu text called garuda purana, which explains the concept of souls, 10 dimensions, concept of time dilation, mutliverse and many other things. Though it is not in original form and must have been tempered till 1000 years back, it definitely makes us wonder if we were visited by aliens. Btw, Mahalaxmi Yantra was found in Oregon, USA in 1990. Search for it on youtube. Its one of the hindu yantra or say machinery for attracting wealth.

I am not Hindu however I absolutely love your video on all these ancient temples. Ancient Gods have always fascinated me. India has one of the richest histories in this. I am disabled and have difficulty walking and traveling, so your videos on many of the ancient places I wish I was physically able to visit have given me a way to enjoy some of their beauty. On another video about ancient Hindu temples in Cambodia being mistaken for Buddhist temples really reminded me of a ancient temple I visited in Vietnam which is still used by Buddhist Monks, however the archeological style is almost identical to the style in Cambodia . This temple also differed greatly from all other Buddhist temples I visited. Thanks Again for all the amazing content! I breed plants, & I actually use many of the Hindu God names in my plant breeding naming structure as a nod to the origins of the genetics I began with.

The complexities of Indian/Hindu temples and their sculptures are truly mind-boggling! And yet the vast majority of people even in India have no clue as to their significance, or their story-telling, or their educational purposes. And to design, sculpt, and build all of the temples with those complexities…I have no words. I will be forever grateful to you, Praveen, for giving these small glimpses into what had to be an extremely advanced culture and civilization that was gone long before our civilization even ‘got its feet wet’.

Temples are created to guide the devotee into a transcendental experience and elevate consciousness. It seems like the statues were arranged in a fashion that would allow for better crowd flow as they performed pradakshina, meditated on Dashaavatara and progression into higher dimensional energies and beings. Nothing is random or illogical in Hinduism. All based on Universal laws and represented in ways for devotees to receive deeper spiritual truths. Love your videos!

The arrangement makes me think of how we as humans love repetition. But then love occational novelty even more. I wonder how delighted people have been over the years to discover and experience walking through this temple, after having walked through many others. And the temple just sits quietly waiting for someone like Praveen Mohan - who knows the stories and has experienced the normal - to reward with this experience.

Whatever is scripted by fiction writers in the name of religion is sculpted out there. No wonder! When it comes to spirituality, it has nothing to do with fiction writers staying in body-mind consciousness. Spiritual experience cannot be sculpted. Let me give you an example of it. We all know what the taste of bitterness is like. We experience it with our tongue. If you asked a great painter or sculptor across the globe to draw a painting or sculpture for bitterness, what would it be like? What would the outcome be with eyes, hands, weapons, and all that other junk in the video? If that were the case, it would be misleading.

Meaning for instance let's say " if u killed somebody then came to God asked for mercy... God will not give u mercy... Because if he gave u mercy then it will be unjustified to him, whoever got killed by u...u can't escape from" karma" ...so God will help u to whatever the situation is.... help u to recover u from that situation....

Job well done and well explained. Thank you and glad being Indian (Tamilian) can connect better to the story of a Tamil temple. Even gods didn’t like to be defeated by their spouses. Amazing. It just shows we are willing to accept gods as regular humans vs being something unusual and hence don’t engage in such human like things. Mahabharata has many such cases where god (Krishna) did things that needed to be done to allow for good to defeat evil - stories about Drona’s son’s death and many others that he did because he was the supreme.

Well, we mainly lost our written records when Islamic invaders started coming to India mainly for turkey for stealing gold and jewels because India was the richest country in the world. They destroyed all the universities in India, burnt down all the books and ensured that ancient knowledge cannot be carried forward. Still through gurukul education system, things were passed on orally from generation to generation. When britishers came to India, they ensured that all the gurkuls were destroyed so that people do not know anything about their culture and feel ashamed of their roots. Many ill practices were widely spread intentionally by them and some practices were framed up falsely like Sati Pratha to show how our religion (well its more of a culture) is backward and ill.

This channel showcases our real history . Our ancestors were way more supirior than rest of the world , but unfortunately at the present time many people started forgetting our culture and started adopting foreign culture . Also in my opinion we can't blame them much because as I can see here in South India many ancient temples are still standing , on the other hand in North India due to foreign invaders many of our temples and other important architectures such as libraries and schools were being demolished completely not even their knowledge was preserved . And by learning history I know that South India faced a lot less foreign invaders than North India ... maybe this is the reason South Indian peoples are very much rooted in our culture than North Indians and I really appreciate that ... I'm a North Indian btw and I became very sad seeing my peoples leaving our beautiful culture . Please keep going Sir , you are doing a great job . Superb, as usual. Frankly I'm more impressed with the quantity and quality of the sculptures. Even given modern tools, who would invest the time, skill and materials to carve such works out of solid granite? That's a lifetime of work for the few sculptors we have nowadays. I suppose if the importance of the temple back then, was as important as for example, our national defense budget, then maybe those temples could have been financed. But they had large defense budgets back then too. And real money, gold, that could not be simply printed. Or they had some technology for rapidly transferring an artist's vision into stone. Perhaps a team of master sculptors who had 10 chisel wielding apprentices. "Go get Ravee!! He knows how to do hair texture really well!"

I believe they had technology more advanced than we have. We have clear mentions of flying vehicles, various advanced weapons like nuclear bombs and all. Infact the indus valley civilisation was most probably destroyed by a nuke because the walls excavated were found to be mirror like, something which happens when subjected to intense heat and radiation like in case of nukes. Regarding finance, India has been the richest country for most part of human civilisation except in the past 600 years. I’m wondering now who I was and what I did in past lives. What an interesting time to be alive-spaceships, OFFWORLDERS, technology, wow! Wish I had the body to tolerate travels, the money, and Praveen as my teacher and guide!!! I can DREAM CAN’T I lol🙏🏻❤️

I am from the USA while I have received good information from others writings absorption interruptions etc. I have much to learn there is only so much time etc. But I do so appreciate these and hate to see how these remarkable and valuable sites are deteriorating. Time takes its toll, I hope money and attention is brought to preserve as possible. Definitely record in detail in all ways for the future make sure all that can be done is. Thanks so much for everything. I am sure it is a calling that will be rewarded. Thank you, again.
