Nice work! I love wood carving. I havn't done much of it in the last 2+ years, because I also love music and have been a performing musician for 43 years. But just yesterday I harvested a twistie hiking stick, one of two I've had my eye on for weeks now. I hope to cut the other in the next couple of weeks while the sap is still in the roots. I also carve miniatures in basswood. I've carved several Christmas ornaments through the years. I enjoy bringing them to our ornament exchange at church. It's a competitive and fun potluck gathering where folks trade for the most desirable pieces. A few of my carvings have been part of some very fun bartering. I hope to have more time this Spring and Summer to get back into some of it. When I finish a carving, it's very gratifying to know I created it with simple hand tools. I get much enjoyment and satisfaction when a carving turns out how I envisioned it. Sometimes, they turn out better than my initial idea. I hope you enjoy it very much too! Thank you for sharing your project!

My best friend used to make these all the time. He died about a year ago or so. Sure sux when you've got only one friend in life you can truth. Anyways thanks as always bud. Have a good efternoon

just an idea i think for carving i would go with at least 1 1/8 inch dowel like i said just an idea

Very nice effort! I love making walking sticks. I put store bought rubber cane tips on all of mine. The cane tips make for a smoother and more quiet contact on hard surfaces.

Nice work George 🙂I got into making sticks and staffs during the 2020 lockdown here, I use one of those whittling knives too (think mine might be the smaller one). Another knife I've found very useful, (and cheap as chips), is a Hultafors Chisel Knife. I've not done any fancy carving like that though my friend 🙂I mainly use ash and willow, which I can pick up for free, and enjoy sitting outside working on my sticks like you do. As well as myself, I've also made them for friends, my neighbours, and the local kids. Congratulations on the milestone George👍

I just use the one glove. I haven't figured out how to cut the hand that holds the tool--not yet, anyway!😆. I do find the one glove pretty damned helpful, though.
