"A place where, until recently, the hand of man had never set foot." Priceless.

You have to hand it to them ... today's comedians can not stand toe to toe with such handiwork ... they would not even get a foot in the door back then!

Love these sketches, yet, on this point, I'm compelled to observe that the Thom(p)sons have already used this phrase in "Explorers on the Moon."

Ronnie Barker had a nonpareil facility for mixing linguistics and comedy. Brilliant. He was truly a thinking-person's comedian.

"Now, how can we conjure up this picture of writhing naked bodies glistening with sweat from these two relics? Is it the wonderous science of archaeology? Or should I be back on the tablets?"

Superlative! I well remember the priggish professor who hosted the original program. This is delightful.

A true comic genius, of which there have been but a handful.

@sgtgorillaz Hahaha, I don't think so, cause he kind of stifles a laugh when he corrects himself. I almost died laughing when I realised he didn't mean to.

2:02, was that a screw up covered up by improv or is that in the actual script?
@YorkshireNutte7 жыл бұрын
He said years later on the Two Ronnies show that it was an impro. Ronnie B was always good for ad-libbing

This has got to be an imitation of Patrick Moore, surely?
@helenwood84828 жыл бұрын
+DieFlabbergast No, because Patrick Moore talked about space.
@DieFlabbergast8 жыл бұрын
+Helen Wood Oh, God give me strength! It doesn't matter what the subject of the talk is: the manner of speech is a dead ringer for Patrick Moore.
@imajeenyus428 жыл бұрын
+DieFlabbergast Now you mention it, I think he his!
@TheOmanJam8 жыл бұрын
It is pretty Patrick Moore-ish I agree. It's interesting that Ronnie mentions David Bellamy and Magnus Pyke but does not mention Patrick Moore because he is probably impersonating him. All three of them, Moore, Bellamy and Pyke once appeared together on Parkinson, more eccentric television popular scientists in one place than ever seen before or since.
@DieFlabbergast8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. Moore, Bellamy, and Pyke all together in one place, eh? It sounds like a critical mass! I'm surprised there wasn't an explosion!

What does Ronnie say at 1:32?
@JacobH21127 жыл бұрын
Classictv90s I'm pretty sure he says 'that was a joke' that's why he says archaeology can be fun after
@Classictv90s7 жыл бұрын
It was difficult to hear because the studio audience's laughter was loud.

A good test of this Ronnie's pronunciation is to pay the video at half speed. Click the cog wheel under the video and use some common sense should do the trick.

+TCG1984 It was filmed in front of a live studio audience at the BBC Television Centre studios in London.

thats hard to believe
@johnking51748 жыл бұрын
It was, in Studios TC1, TC4, TC6 or TC8. 250 members of the studio audience where there from 7.30pm-10.00pm.
@johnking51748 жыл бұрын
Only exterior pieces were filmed without an audience, such as their long comedy sketches set as dramas. All was done in studio with an audience. Why? Are you from the UK?
@Thusssle8 жыл бұрын
Solid info, did you work at the studios or something? My family lives in UK I am from America but grew up watching these shows. It just seemed like a ton of intense laughing that its notably related to canned laughing machines.
