Just like a lot of people find them quite attractive. But why do you think they're ugly? Is is because of their nose? Skin color? ***** Um ya I do know Coming from an actual African Who is dark skin I can actually say ppl would prefer to be lighter than darker. Tyra in the 90s is very different from the present Tyra with green sometimes blue eyes. She says how beautiful dark skin is but is getting lighter and lighter.

It always seems to amaze me how these women think low of themselves. When I used to work at the WTC in NYC, the White men who were attracted to black women didn't go after black women who looked like Tyra or Beyonce, they dated and married the ones who looked like Alek Wek and guest. One of my whiter than white teachers in highschool who was also of Jewish/German descent married a black, educated woman who migrated from Africa. A few of the stupid boys (who happened to be black) in the class laughed when he showed us her picture and teacher was ticked off with them and held a grudge. Us females, were in awe because we didn't expect it. That just goes to show you...........

I know it's weird for a relatively light-skinned person to envy darker skinned black women but in Australia, there are LOADS of Sudanese women and they are just as dark as Alek Wek and the other woman but DAYUM, their skin as absolutely perfect and flawless. I was comparing my Sudanese friend and I. My face is blotchy my cheeks look kinda yello while the rest of my face just looks normal brown but I have so many shades and I had a period of bad pimples but my friend had the most gorgeous one-shade perfect shiny skin. Their sooooo gorgeous and I'm so jelly. I still love myself but I think as an African I know that we are hard on ourselves because of society's view of dark skin shade but when we learn to love the fact that we're different, we could become stronger and not have as many Africans / African Americans/ African Europeans..etc having as many identity crises as they are now

I have the same problem..my skin is like 2 different shades of brown and I had speckles of red and dark spots on my face from acne but honestly shea butter is really helping to even out my skin tone and I think you should try it because it helps a lot!

I have seen the same thing in highschool myself-- the name calling, and the humiliation. The media often shows this also. I have seen so many BEAUTIFUL dark skinned females. It is a shame that we are now in a society that makes being dark skinned look like there is something wrong. I wish the media/people could open their eyes and accept the reality that beauty comes in every shade.

Life isn't fair. All societies tend to prefer lighter women to darker women. Not fair, just life. Short and broke men are not desired by women. Not fair, just life. Do you have any mental or physical deformities? If not, you should count yourself blessed, as there are quadrapalegics, blind folks, deaf folks, and people with mental disabilities who would gladly trade their conditions for your 'dark skin'. Play the cards life dealt you, and try not to hate the world, for that won't change a thing.

Aiesha, we play the hand we're dealt. Short men can't get taller and they 'get shade' and insults, treated a certain way. The world's shitty to dark women, short men, broke men, flat chested women, skinny legged women, etc. All you can do is rise above and make yourself happy, cuz nobody is gonna change their preferences and opinions because those who are outside their definition of beauty are hurt.

Thats your opinion. I genuinely think shes striking and talented and so do many other people, hence the reason shes a super model. You think she got high up in the modeling industry because people pitied her? Please. High fashion models are veryyyy different from commercial models. A lot of them really aren't what you'd normally consider pretty. They just have striking features or a unique look. If i saw Alek Wek walking down the street, i would stare. Shes captivating. Would i say "Damn she hot asf i would smash" ? Probably not lol but she does have a unique look.

Malkia Nubia she only got into the industry cuz of her skin colour and her strongly african look, it was just to make the industry look more diverse. Trust me, if she was light skinned with long blonde extensions and a relaxer then NOBODY would call her pretty, she would look like muthafukin camillionair with a blonde wig on. Lupita nyongo is a true example of a super dark african beauty, she looks high fashion and commercial, give her some long hair and she would look even more commercial.

Exactly , Lupita is a "commercial" beauty. Alek Wek is a "high fashion" beauty. Yes, her skin and strong feautures make her high fashion material. Youre kinda looking to deep into it, a lot of high fashion run way models arent your conventional idea of "pretty". A few of them actually are kind of ugly. Runway models usually reach success by looking unique, not cuz they are actually beautiful.
