if they did a remake of this show for 2017 the Timmy character would be transgender and possibly gay but in 1968 TV was not ready for that type of SHOCK treatment

VALERIE Ehrlich... not if it was remade as a comedy as it originally was made as. No one would think it funny if a transgendered person or a gay person was dressed as a woman. In fact it would be considered normal. Besides there have been cross-dressing male actors in movies previously since the 1950s. Look up Some Like It Hot an award winning movie where Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis dressed as women the whole movie. This was canceled because it was really not a great comedy series. Not because "TV was not ready for that type of SHOCK treatment".

The whole reason why Timmy was crossdressing was to catch a girl. The gay bit would derail the point of the show.
