Hi! I’m Carrieblogger, a full-time career freelancer on Fiverr Pro. Since I started in 2013, I’ve built up a sustainable, consistent business with a six-figure annual ‘salary’. I work as a copywriter and branding consultant for small to medium-sized brands around the world.
This video is all about freelancing challenges, freelancing problems, is fiverr bad, is fiverr good, is upwork good, is upwork bad, how to start freelancing, fiverr tips, fiverr advice, and the reality of risk when you're a beginner freelancer or learning to start freelancing and working online. Making money online isn't easy, and even if there aren't any startup costs to build a freelance business or start freelance work as a beginner, you've still got some risks to consider. Self-employed, solopreneur, freelancing gig economy workers lack consistency, access to social safety nets, and predictable income, so instability is a huge challenge to overcome. You have to be proactive and focus on building a successful freelance business that allows you to earn money online and work from home without sacrificing financial security. This is the dark side of freelancing, the ugly side of freelancing, an honest look at freelance problems, why freelancing isn't good, why you don't want to become a freelancer, and why - despite ALL of that - maybe you do want to learn freelancing and take control of your work life by quitting 9-5. It's a lot of work, but when it does work, it's worth it!
Learn how to make money online and work from home as a freelance copywriter like me! Whether you're building a freelance copywriting business or selling another skill online, freelance platforms like Fiverr are changing the future of work. Now you can monetize your talent and learn how to work from home. Freelance copywriting on Fiverr is my absolute dream job - hands down. Every Freelance Friday, I share freelancing tips, freelance advice, advice for freelancers, Fiverr tips, Fiverr advice, advice for Fiverr sellers, Fiverr business tips, and a look inside my freelance lifestyle as a solopreneur business copywriter. It's a blast!

Thanks for this video. I have been a freelancer for a few years, working as a language tutor and translator. I'm starting a regular job in June because I've sort of had enough for now. I don't like that freelancing is so glamorised because there are definitely downsides. As you said, the income is pretty unpredictable, I never know how much I'm going to make each month. There are also weaker months in my profession, e.g. summer break (most language schools don't have courses), December (you earn money only half of the month), September (not all courses start with the 1st of September). Also, if a student cancels in advance, that means no money for me. Not to mention that you don't get paid when on vacation or sick. Also, freelancing can be pretty lonely. And although it's great that you can do things your own way, it also means you have the full responsibility and have to deal with everything yourself. Moreover, while some people antagonize the 9-5 rigid schedule of a normal job, as a freelancer, you often work much more and sometimes in the evening, at weekends etc. I often feel like I never actually leave my job and think about it constantly. After a few years, I felt like I needed some stability and hence took a regular job with a year-long contract. Then I'll decide if I want to continue freelancing and on which conditions. Thanks again for making this video. I have freelancing friends who only talk about the positives (like "ooh, you can go to the mountains and teach between skiing sessions, how cool is that?") but never about the negatives, so I didn't feel understood.
@carrieblogger

Love these ranty and more transparent videos Carrie! You're completely right, it really isn't all 'flexible' and 'entrepreneurial' as influencers love to (sometimes) exaggerate. Would love to join it if you haven't done so already!

Hi, Carrie, thank you for your videos, I have a question . do you recommend non-English natives to begin freelancing in English writing as a career? even it is in a technical field? because I saw some of your videos when you talk about being a native as a plus when it comes to writing ! Thank you.
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 2 жыл бұрын
Selling writing services in English as a non-native speaker is obviously an uphill battle because you’re completely building your business on language skills that might not be your strong suit. Not to say that it’s impossible or even a bad idea - many native English speakers have worse grammar, spelling habits, or technical skill than those who learned English as a second or third language. But still, it’s hard. For example, you’re making punctuation mistakes that I’m sure carry over from normal practice in your native language. It’s hard to master the intricacies and small details of a language if you didn’t grow up in it. If you have other sellable skills that don’t *fully* and exclusively rely on your command of the language, then I’d recommend exploring that. Good luck! 👏🏻

hey, hi so I have watched a couple of ur videos and I must say that it has really helped me for my Fiverr gig as I am a new seller but I am not getting any clicks in compared to the impression that I am getting. I just wanna ask an avg time to wait ( not being impatient(had to google out this word) ) for the first-order cause it's been like 2 and a half weeks since my first gig got published.
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 2 жыл бұрын
CTR tend to be low - (like… 2% is killing it) so if you don’t even have 100 impressions, you don’t have enough volume to get clicks (statistically). So fixing that first is ideal, and waiting around likely isn’t going to see a magic spike out of nowhere if you’re still totally stalled after 2 weeks. I’d say after a month you’re definitely just stuck and it’s not likely to change. (Just a guess, not set in stone.) Keep tweaking and improving to see what works. Have you seen this video? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8qjZsiCv7LbYH0.html If you choose to consult with me one-on-one, I can provide specific feedback and personalized advice based on your specific situation - bit.ly/carriebloggerconsult Aaaand last link, I promise, you might find my 20-step freelancing guide helpful. As a Brit studying tax law I find the idea your taxed MORE for being a self-employed freelancer then employed mind boggling. I've spent hours reading cases where people go through mental summersaults to prove they were self employed so they can lower their tax bill through deductions. Crazy!
@carrieblogger
@carrieblogger 2 жыл бұрын
Lol NOPE it sucks. I think technically it’s taxed the same (maybe…?) but you don’t have an employer paying part of the tax for you. It is mind boggling for sure, especially also considering that you don’t qualify for public benefit programs like disability, unemployment, etc. unless you file as an S-corp and jump through some very specific hoops.
