Great video gents! There are some albums here that I really love. My choices are... REM - Out of Time. I agree Radio Song is crap, but the rest of the album is amazing. My favourite REM album White Zombie - Soul Crusher. I don't know anyone who's even heard the first two album, nevermind likes them. To me they're just as good as La Sexorcisto and Astro-creep. AC/DC -Ballbreaker. The first AC/DC album I owned (on tape!). I absolutely loved it at the time. With hindsight it's not as good as I thought at time, but I still like it alot. Rainbow - Stranger in us All. My first Rainbow album on CD. Not their best, obviously that's Down to Earth (which maybe could have made this list), but still great! Paradise Lost - Believe in Nothing. A gothic, synthy masterpiece to me, bollocks to most. The production is a bit crap on the original release, but there are some great songs. Honourable mentions got to the Blaze Bailey Iron Maiden albums, especially X Factor, Motley Crue - Motley Crue and Whitesnake - Restless Heart.

Niche, but I can explain: The Status Quo covers albums in the 90s/2000s: Riffs, Famous in the Last Century and, the one that really got me, Don't Stop. First CD I remember my dad buying instead of just existing. We played that thing over and over, particularly the cover of Fun Fun Fun with the Beach Boys. Nostalgia? Of course but very special all the same.

Mike Batt's an unsung genius like a British Todd Rundgren, some great solo albums but most people will know the songs he wrote and produced for other artists like Art Garfunkel, most notably "Bright Eyes" from the 1978 animation classic Watership Down, Elkie Brooks, Alvin Stardust and David Essex. I've always liked the concept album and stage production The Hunting of the Snark that featured a host of famous singers like Julian Lennon, Roger Daltrey, Justin Hayward and George Harrison.

Great topic guys. Let's see more of these in the future. Good call on Meatloaf, Genesis, and Queensryche. Many of the other titles mentioned, I can't comment on, but actually UFO's "High Stakes" record was pretty good. I really loved the '80s stuff, so this being their first entry in the '90s showed good effort, but was import-only in the States and so didn't stand much of a chance. Here are a few off the top of my head: The Cars: Door to Door - Good variety like on Heartbeat City, but much more of a straightforward rock record. For a band on the verge of bowing out, this was a brilliant effort. Di'Anno: Self-Titled - This may qualify more as unknown than unpopular, but if more people knew of it, they'd probably think it sucks. Paul's first foray into post-Maiden life was puzzling to say the least, but taken for what it was: good, cheesy, pop metal that resonated with those of us who didn't mind the "sell-outs" so much as a sign of the times. Scorpions: Sting in the Tail - This was a solid return to form an album before they hit it out of the park with their latest one. This was a nod to their 80s hard rock style from start to finish. Molly Hatchet: The Deed is Done - I loved the record when it came out. Radio led me to "Satisfied man," but I discovered plenty more gems. I'd equate this album to ZZTop's "Afterburner," both with a similar style and sound They're more musically adventurous here and for the most part, they pull it off. Listen to "She Does" for a good example. Saxon: Innocence is No Excuse - One of my favorites, leaps and bounds ahead of Crusader; heavy, anthemic, much improved production. To me they did well to merge the classic with the current better than most, going more commercial without sacrificing credibility. They'd go on to do that with their next album. W.A.S.P.: KFD - They jumped the aggro-industrial trend in the late '90s, but what lay beneath was their heaviest, angriest album since the debut. It blew away SNBE that came before and the listless Helldorado that followed. In brief: Kiss "Dynasty," The Knack "But the Little Girls Understand, Accept "Objection Overruled" and "Predator," Judas Priest "Ram It Down," Kreator "Endorama" ....
@treff9226
@treff9226 Ай бұрын
These are outstanding picks, especially that Scorps album! Innocence Is No Excuse gets a bum rap, there is some very heavy tuneage on there. Always liked Ram It Down and that Cars album, Door To Door is excellent! Oh, and those often ignored Accept albums were much better than advertised - viciously heavy! Nice work!

To be fair Bret was probably dying for a change in the times to do a more bluesy mature album, he's on the record saying main influences are Lynyrd Skynyrd and Zepp, he also like Thin Lizzy, Rush and VH and thinks AC/DC is the best rock band ever. Bret tried to get Slash back in the day but the other guys didn't agree, what a timeline that would be. It wasn't really weird that they got a shredder in Kotzen since DeVille was also one, one hell of a feeling player as well, crazy underated. I think Poison gets too much shit, yeah, there's the Unskinny Bops but there's also the Ride the Winds.

For me, Steven, also Calling All Stations by Genesis. One gripe that I have is that some of the songs fade out too early and quickly, especially the title track! Another one for me is Chicago XIV from 1980. The band did two albums with Donnie David on guitar after the death of Terry Kath. They were of a poppy flavor but still had some great rocking material and a couple disco-oriented songs but after Dacus was fired and Chris Pinnick came in, wow! This guy is a monster of a guitarist and Chicago XIV is decent because I feel that Pinnick gave the songs some grit and power with his playing, especially on the lead-off song, Manipulation.

Highly enjoyable episode, gents, with laughs a-plenty that began as soon as Simon offered up his first choice. The only personal choice to be added at this time is the album Phoenix by Dan Fogelberg. Yes, it did chart but is was critically panned though it is personally loved. Thanks to the UK trio but consistently entertaining episodes. Pete's beer choice and discussion reminded my of the beer of my youth that could be had so cheaply - Old Milwaukee (which we gladly referred to as Old Mule Water). Cheers!

Steven, my Mrs also likes to rate bands hair when at concerts, so much so she tried contacting Hammerfall to find out what products they use because their hair was “wonderful” 😂

Styx-Brave New World. I think a solid album top to bottom. Maybe not the Styx you’d expect but good songs. Pat Travers-Black Pearl. Poppy, a couple rockers. Enjoyable listen. Outlaws-Wanted. Yes it’s filled with special guests, yes it’s country, yes I like it.

Queen's Hot Space, I like the kind of music which it prefers to fall into, and I think they totally nailed it. Rush's Presto has fans, there is maybe no truly hated album among the Rush fanbase, but I definitely place it higher in my ranking of their oeuvre than most... Yes's Fly From Here and Heaven & Earth, I like them to a degree, not classics, but very pleasing and tranquil, rather different from the music of the early '70s, but I think they composed beautiful recordings for the softer genres they were aspiring toward. Frankly, I'd rather listen to those than the limp-prog of those last two studio albums... In the world of slick, contemporary well-produced neo/neu-disco 'music-snob alternative' girl-pop, I thoroughly like Zyra's Sober, not a well-received album, similar to enjoying her more acclaimed contemporaries Jessie Ware, Ana Frango Elétrico and/or Charli XCX (well just her 2020 album, hm...). Oh, Tony Banks' The Fugitive, I will champion that, some tracks (or at least the instrumentals) are worthy of early OMD, which still isn't going to sell the prog fans on it whatsoever, but to those that enjoy both dimensions, Fugitive is really gratifying stuff tbh...

London Town seems to be liked quite a bit from people, actually. George Harrison's Gone Troppo, however, not so much, but I like it more than All Things Must Pass, so there. Ha.

Thank you só much Steven for the Criss solo album. It’s just crázy, I probably play Criss’ album most of the four.. For me Stanley’s album is the best, Frehley is after that. But somehow I play Criss’ album most.. Has somehow to do with the time I was really young, I’ve always found comfort in this album. It’s so honest and pure… I Can’t Stop The Rain is still one of the top ballads I think..

Good show, might revisit No Prayer, it was so disappointing at the time. It's only since I've watched music waffle channels that I've found out some of my favourite albums are not well regarded, like these: ACDC - Blow Up Your Video Gillan & Glover - Accidentally On Purpose IQ - Are You Sitting Comfortably Jethro Tull - Catfish Rising Lillian Axe - Poetic Justice Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Last Rebel Motorhead - 1916 & On Parole Neil Young - Are You Passionate Uriah Heep - Conquest The Who - Face Dances Zz Top - Recycler I don't recall seeing these mentioned, I've no idea of others opinions of them, but they should be more widely known Presidents of the USA s/t Michael Bruce - In My Own Way Mammoth s/t No Sweat s/t Kiss of the Gypsy s/t

Maybe it's more highly regarded today, but even the band didn't seem fond of this one: Helloween - The Dark Ride. To me it's by far the best Deris era album, his voice works really well on the darker stuff. There are some really, really good songs on it, and the title track is incredible.
