The IET’s are terrible, they shouldn’t have replaced the trains they replaced

Like the new class 800's and such which are designed to operate at similar speeds to the javalin but actually technically dont because they aren't designed to operate on an actual high speed line.. I guess the one advantage is efficiency due to their design and power output but personally, I think they're kinda a waste of money tbh.

They run IETs which are not the same. They are Intercity Express Trains which only run at 125mph rather than 140. This is because they do not use incab signalling which is required for speeds above 125

125mph is not high speed. High speed is OVER 200kmh not 200kmh itself making all other services not high speed

@@CptnPhasma they’re higher speed upgraded from old rails. There are plans to get them to 140mph (~225km/h) like the Javelins because the Hitachi trains and Pendolinos have in cab signalling but the line signals would also need to be upgraded. I haven’t a clue why the Javelins don’t go 186mph (300km/h) like the Eurostars.

@@Ro99 yes, however they don't reach 140mph yet The javelins don't go at 186mph because they physically can't handle the speed, plus the declaration wouldn't be fast enough to slow down in time from 186mph

It's a little more complicated, because "High-speed" as a term includes provision for old lines that were upgraded. HS1 is a new-built high-speed line, with the limit being 186mph, over the 155mph minimum for new builds, though only Eurostar e300 (Converted TGV) and e320 (Siemens Velaro) services run that fast on it. Javelins technically don't count as high-speed services (though are marketed as such because they're still the fastest domestic service in the UK). The rest of the country has lines like the ECML, WCML, GWML and MML which are historic routes upgraded to run up to 125mph and have rolling stock (Class 8XX) that can even go above that in the future, meaning they actually fit the definition of "specially upgraded" high-speed lines (running over the 124mph minimum) set by both the EU and the International Union of Railways.

The Class 800s and 43s go Speed 125 while Eurostar and the Southeastern Javelin goes 140,the 390 could go 140 but goes speed 125 making Eurostar and the Javelin the fastest

125mph isn't really high speed tbh. Most high speed trains cruise between 80-110mph most cases.

They only go up to 125mph, high speed must be OVER 125mph making all other lines in the UK not high speed

They're not comfortable but not uncomfortable. They're about satisfactory for a 2hr journey but honestly, nothing more than that. You won't sink into it and enjoy it but it's not gonna give you a back ache either.

They're actually pretty decent. Went on one in the past week, and they're pretty good.

It can actually do it faster than 37 minutes. Official time is 38 mins. I was on the first press trip. On that it did better than 36 minutes

Are you sure? The newer 374s aren't fitted with contact shoes and the 373s had them removed after 2007.

​@andyhartt9035 They do run on 3rd rail. Just look it up. The Southeastern class 390 - Javelin only use part of HS1 unlike Eurostar. They leave HS1 and use the conventional 3rd rail network to reach locations like Folkestone, Margate etc.

@@Trainman10715 we have plenty of trains that go 125 in the UK, but we consider HS1 to be only high speed line in the country, I think the EU have actually decided 250kmh is the threshold for what's considered high speed

@@Trainman10715 but outside of HS1 the max service speed is only 125, and most people don't consider that high speed for European standards, there's a reason it's called HS2 and not HS8 (ik ik it's only the 2nd dedicated HS line)

It's relative for the size of our country & the journeys people are actually making. Many 'high speed' journeys now are no quicker than in the steam days.

@@Lee_303 completely agree, Germany has many high speed trains capable of 300kmh but achieve similar journey times to the UK e.g. Munich to Berlin Vs London to Edinburgh are both similar distances, their trains are capable of running at 50% greater speed but they both make the trip in just over 4 hours 🤷

C2C doesn't run high speed, they run only up to 160kmh or 100mph. High speed is over 200kmh Plus, Eurostar doesn't do domestic services, he should've mentioned that the javelins are the only domesticated high speed train, I admit

The colour scheme inside will bore you to tears, but the seats are better than on Thameslink or gWr & there's tables with power points. Not sure it warrants the 'premium' price anymore as although it's quicker, a more comfortable train is the Electrostar from Victoria or Charing Cross.

There are trains that run fast. This is the only high speed train that runs in the UK. The other is Eurostar on the same tracks, it’s the only high speed line, until HS2 is finished.
