Join me as we discover the Marriotts way a former railway line from Norwich to Aylsham and often seen as one of the top ten cycle / gravel paths in the Uk the whole route is just under thirty miles and takes in some breathtaking scenery, the path surface goes from tarmac to a mixture of gravel and dirt.

Great video. It's a pity that the route becomes little more than a narrow footpath through dense undergrowth as it nears the Themelthorpe Curve. Going on towards Aylsham, in some places the use of gravel or ballast is not a good surface to cycle on!

I have done the whole length of it a few times. It can be a challenge on a windy day as some parts of the route are quite open. The western end near the Themelthorpe elbow doesn't get as well maintained as the rest of it and overgrowth can sometimes be a challenge. Also some parts of the route has ballast as a surface which can be really difficult to cycle through so a bike with slightly wider tyres is to be recommended. For pure scenery, I would put the Monsal trail as being right up there among the best of the railway cycle trails in the UK.

Thank you for filming the Route Dan and the interesting narration. I did the route back in 2014 with a camping back pack. It was quite an adventure but tbh have cycled many more interesting and scenic routes in the UK since. I guess every route has its identity and appeals to different tastes but as I recall much of the route was canopied by trees with not too many far reaching vistas. I have subbed to your channel as like you I am a cyclist Vlogger and appreciate the work that goes into making such videos, thus my support. Keep the cycling videos coming. 👍😎

This is a lovely video. You were fortunate you filmed this on a quiet day. I know the route very well and used to love it but over the years it has got very busy with dog walkers, on and off leads on long leads, jumping up at you, barking, off leads and running after livestock. I have sadly got fed up with it and go elsewhere. I am a responsible cyclist with all my safety protocols in place but it is not worth the risk of injury anymore. 😢

Thanks for sharing. My favourite cycle/walking path it on an old railway route from Bristol to Bath. Not sure if you have done this one. Part of the route follows the Kennet & Avon canal and it is possible to switch between the canal footpath and the rail path for a few sections. Also the route goes through a lovely rail tunnel.

Disused railway lines make for great cycling especially gravel bikes that can handle the slightly uneven ground, still it's a shame the railways aren't used for rail, a perfect world would see track sharing with electric light rail (similar to trams)

This is a nice effort, but by no stretch of the imagination can it be called a 'long distance' cycle path!!! The scenery is quite nice, but scarcely 'breathtaking'. I realise that calling it... 'A short cycle ride in quite pleasant countryside' would not be exciting, but it would at least be accurate.

Wide is good, means two mums with prams can walk side by side and cyclists can overtake without endangering them.
@Fireglo
@Fireglo 7 ай бұрын
@@hendrixinfinity3992 it's a bike trail not a single mums on benefits pathway. They should go back to clogging up the high street and leave the trails for mountain bikers. There's literally a pavement they can use just 30 seconds up the road that takes them to the exact same destination and doesn't require them to even enter the woods or go past the Hellesdone sign. Why does the world always have to stop and cater for entitled single mums who give no benefit to society whatsoever? Why would you even take a pram into the woods in the first place? They're not built for travelling offroad.

In East Anglia ? Well that doesn't surprise me. That's why cycling is so successful in the Netherlands, and other nations would like to copy. The answer is - they can't. And now you know why YOUR cycle path is most likely the best in UK.

I am a Lillie confused . You called this a long-distance trail. But all my research shows it to only be 26 miles long. At 26 miles, this is only about a 1 hour ride.

It’s a 54 mile round trip following an old railway line I feel that’s a good distance bearing in mind there are no sharing roads with other traffic especially here in the uk 🇬🇧 it’s also pretty beautiful in parts.
@boondockingamerica
@boondockingamerica 4 ай бұрын
@Danisoutside ok so it's 50 miles if you want to ee the same thing twice . Still don't see how it is a long distance trail. You are talking about something that it takes a couple of hours to ride out and back. A long distance trail Is something like the gap and c&o trali at 300 plus miles, or maybe the Mickelson trail at 109 miles, The cowboy trail is about 329 miles . Those are long bicycle trails. That are not any road.

Just normal british life. There is graffiti all over England. The people there have no pride at all. The graffiti is not that bad here. We rented a canal boat for 3 months while we were in England, and the canal bridges and overpasses are a lot worse. The graffiti on the canal network makes a person think that they are in Detroit. You would think that the people who live in a country with this much history to offer the world would take a little more pride in their country.
