When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 Olena and her son Vova fled to the UK, leaving behind her husband Kostyantin to fight on the frontlines. Olena has built a new life in the UK and now, almost two years later, the family are able to reunite for Christmas.

Very nice piece. I just arrived in Warszawa, Poland, today, this Christmas 2023, and went to my favorite restaurant. I was here last year Christmas and delivered two power generators that were take to Ukraine. I learned this evening that this restaurant is operated by a Ukrainian company that was established in Odesa, which coincidentally us where I set my destination this time and then learned that all of the employees are Ukrainian. My waitress told me about her family and I won't go into in in public. I can say that her father in his 50s is a volunteer back in Ukraine. Her mother lives in Gdansk, Poland. She of course resides in Warszawa,

My grandfather who fought in the second world war rarely spoke about his experiences in the war. It was traumatizing to speak about even 60 years after. The idea is that war is so messed up, and affected lives of both sides for generations , both for agressors and defenders. He was defending his country, but managed to find some empathy for those sent to war, against their will.

Best story of the year. Look at the smile on that soldier. For just a short time he can breathe free in the company of his family he fights to protect.

He is one of the lucky ones. Ukraine really needs to decide soon whether they want to continue or negotiate for peace. Without the western support it makes no sense to continue.

It's a puff piece. Meanwhile in reality all men from 18 to 60 are banned from leaving Ukraine. Hundreds of people drowned or froze to death trying to escape this concentration camp called Zelenskyy Ukraine. You can legally leave Zelenskyy army only when killed or mangled and crippled for life to the extent that even Zelenskyy couldn't send you back to the front (i.e. amputees without two or more limbs, blind etc.). Zaluzhny himself said that he needed at least 20 000 of fresh meat every single month. There are no rotations, just a two-week break at best. In fact Zelenskyy is running out of cannon fodder. There are simply no next 500 000 to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport. NYT wrote about these mass kidnappings that were happening only in Zelenskyy Ukraine and Hitler's Germany in 1945 in an article ‘People Snatchers’.

If that is the case, why haven't the russians been able to take Avdiivka? It is 15km from Donetsk, and a very long way to kyiv.
@joshuapaul2022
@joshuapaul2022 4 ай бұрын
@@westontennyson8520 You still don't get it. It's a war of attrition. It's not about capturing Kiev, Bakhmut, Odessa or Avdiivka. It's not about gaining more territory. It's solely about decimating Ukrainian army. “The main object of operations should not be the territory, but the army of the enemy” Helmuth von Moltke Sr. This war showed once more that old Moltke was right. According to BBC (Mediazona) total Russian losses by now are 38 000 KIA ( obituaries, social media records, new graves). Yeah, it's really staggering 38 000 Russian KIA and 500 000 Ukrainian KIA. The war of attrition is effectively lost by Ukraine. Anybody can go and see for himself. It's obvious that Zelenskyy also lied about a real mobilization potential and there are no next 500 000 to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport.

Are you for real?! Two sides to what?! Russia invaded Ukraine. Why would a country invade another country & even more so nowadays?! What rights did they have? No rights, as much rights as you have to break in your neighbour's house. Make some sense. Russia invaded Ukraine to profit from Ukraine's resources.
@HuplesCat

For nine years before that invasion, which was wrong, Ukraine waged a civil war on its eastern Russian ethnic provinces. Sorry if the truth is inconvenient @@susanwestern6434
