@imxploring Жыл бұрын
The best advice is to keep it simple... don't go crazy with gadgets, accessories, and gear... get out there and do some fishing with one (maybe two poles) and basic gear. Buy the items you want as you find a need for them.

I wish my kayak had a seat buckle! Some of the waves I take on feel like my spine is getting compressed! I have WAY to much $$$$ in my kayak. YOU MUST have a kayak cart too!

The one thing I would add is to bring an anchor. The anchor rode may also double as a tow rope. Just like my motorized vessels, I always bring an anchor. In a motorized vessel dropping anchor when the vessel is rendered inoperable will maintain your position. I suggest bringing an anchor on a kayak as well. Tie it off in the back of the kayak at an appropriate depth so it will hit bottom. Then coil the rode neatly and place the anchor in a back rod holder. If the kayak flips the anchor will drop and prevent the kayak from getting away from you. I mainly fish the flats in the Tampa area. My anchor rode is only 25 ft. I adjust the length using a loop in the rode and a carabiner clip.

Put a single twist in an unsupported (tight) cargo strap. That will eliminate the vibrating.

In central PA Shanks Mare is the only outfitter I know that has demo days. They are also the only place I know that is actually on the water. The vast majority of new kayak fishermen around here buy from big box stores. In PA you only need to register powered vessels. Non-powered vessels can get a launch permit. It can be bought online, for 1 or 2 years.

Only suggestion is that if one is planning on the Boonedox landing wheels, try to mount them just behind the seat as that will come closer to center of gravity.

fishing the sea and large saltwater rivers I've learned a few lessons, 2 rods max (more than two is overkill) - a net is a game changer (15 euro to buy) - get and anchor (rope needs to be 3 times the depth - i just purchased a fish finder I'm hoping to test it today

This is a great video, but for larger fish like pike, a net is almost a must. It is especially important for pike because they are heavy and are usually very pissed off and like to make fast and jerky movements that can break their jaw if you grip them by it with a fish grip. If you don't want a net or don't have space for one then learning how to grab it by the gill while supporting its belly is a must, or you risk hurting them badly. Just a heads up.

Hi Wendell, love your kayak videos. You recommend the Eyson PFD. Quite a few questions and comments mention it's not USCG certified. How important is it to have this type of certification?
@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, everyone is correct and if you want to be safer than sorry I would find one that is USCG certified so you don't get in any trouble with the game wardens. I will no longer be recommending the Eyeson moving forward because of this.

Well you/other talk about a Keel guard on the front ok what would something like a thin layer from front to back of like bed liner covering ? Could a thin covering of whatever all across the bottom work well it will save all that wear an tear?
