We are happy everytime when Laura appears in Sendung mit der Maus. And it's always kinda disturbing (in a good way) when she talks German haha This idea seems like it's borrowing the axis and wheels from the bathtub boat project today cause this only kinda worked :D edit: ha, the bathtub boat is even mentioned. Will the bike trailer be part of a future video then?

AWESOME! Great idea, great execution! I only add two points: 1. A lock in opening side to avoid unexpectd open due to bumps in road. 2. Small hole in upper side near the edge to drain water fron the rounded finish. Water can accumulate here.

Excellent build! I had a flatbed bicycle trailer in 6th grade my stepdad made out of old bikes, used a front fork attached via the rear axle nuts and almost the same bolt hitch you use. Word of advice, always carry extra hitch bolts, used to snap one in half about every 2 weeks

Awesome! Some unsolicited upgrade/build ideas: 1. Less holes, more foam tape. Maybe it rains less there but everything that can leak for me seems to always. 2. Fiberglass wheelbarrow lid and/or bottom for less weight on a pedal bike or smaller ebike (these were recycled so whateva) 3. Solar panels yo! Charge while ya chill. 4. You can get some big fence hinges and wrap them around the outside of the lip, tack them where the hinge is between, hammer the edges down and weld/bolt the strap flat. Would get you a flat perimeter for a gasket, or avoid needing to notch the tub if you can't handle the full glory of the angle grinder. 5. Craigslist/online ads are full of cheap trailer axle things if planning on using on a real motorbike that can go fast. For a pedal bike I'd use bike-style wheels for the lower drag. You don't need the traction of a fatter wheel on a trailer, just consider weight and side-loading. 6. Double nut that spare tire bolt, so you can remove the spare without opening a hole in yer boot. Will make it easier to seal too. 7. Lights! My buddy always said he loved the fullness of the illuminated area that the lights he put on his trailer put out, compared to a headlamp on the bike. I always asked him why he had a trailer on a bmx. 8. It's metal, so you could totally make a BBQ trailer. I can only imagine the possibilities for an impromptu chill-n-grill. *requires beer cooler mod for full functionality.

1- agreed, water gets everywhere, and without overhangs, this build will leak, but it was definitely a quick and simple build, so will do just fine in relatively dry weather (or just carry water resistant contents). 9- I am concerned with a rubber bushing as a hitch connection. it does not freely pivot left/right when you lean into a turn. or after a few dozen miles just break off. Most bicycle hitches look like universal joints that you see on cars which let it freely pivot left-right and up-down.

@@laurakampf LOL..as an artist, maker, Creative I TOTALLY get that. I have a good friend that I share ideas with and do business with. Once she shares an idea of hers with me, & I can see it in my minds eye, ideas just start poppin'. That opens me up to see stuff for myself. When we really get that Creative Flow started it can just multiply. Both of us get really amped up with tons of ideas, most of which are useful...lol... I would love to expand my counceling business to include Makers, Craftspersons, Artists, etc. to help them envision new ideas, shifting existing ideas to work more easily, and even which ideas to let go of because they lack viability. I AM a Creative, Empath, Intuitive, & a Spiritual Transformation Coach. I LOVE assisting & supporting folks in emotionally & Spiritually shifting to let go of past 'chains' to embrace new choices which lead to more and more Freedom. It has honestly just occurred to me how freakin' wonder-full it would be to assist Artists, Makers, Bakers, etc. andplll Entrepreneurs in expressing More in a healthy & abundant way. Yeah!!! New idea.

I bought my trailer from bikes at work about 10 years ago for 600. NOW they are close to a thousand and over a thousand dollars. The owner told me "you are so lucky the year you purchased your trailer from us. At that time our vendor prices were going to start increasing but they put a hold on that." The trailer that I can really use holds up to 600 pounds. But it's over $1,500 with shipping and tax. I'm trying to get creative if I had a shop.

This trailer looks super awesome. A perfect fit for the bike. I believe it just misses a hook or something else, so it can't open while driving. Maybe something where you can also add a lock, so one can be less worried about ones belongings, when parking it and leaving the trailer alone.

Congratulation on contributing to Die Maus, quite an institution. As for bike trailers: fun design for this one, although a bit heavy for a bio-bike. When loading make sure to keep the center of mass in front of the axle to avoid nasty surprises. And the trailer hitch made by "Radical Design" in the Netherlands (for the Cyclone trailer series) is probably very useful for these types of projects, and probably influences the ride of the bike less than your solution (no link because youtube appears to block that).

@denvernow7294
@denvernow7294 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrtnsnp complete agree with you on the center of mass being slightly in front of the axle. My comment was referring to your last sentence in your original comment. It came across slightly condescending towards her personal build. I doubt Laura is going to be carrying sheets of drywall or a pallet of bricks with her trailer. Her idea was ingenious to use what she did, and having it come out looking better than any other bike trailer I, and I'm sure most others, have ever seen. Sometimes you just want to make something ultra fun and mega cool without throwing orthodox mechanical engineering in the mix. Let's focus on celebrating her for what she invented instead.
@mrtnsnp
@mrtnsnp 2 жыл бұрын
@@denvernow7294 Not intended as such. More a heads-up that this exists, and can be used for your own builds (all parts are sold separately). The rubber coupling Laura used gives a a stiffer coupling, and that may not ride as nicely, or be as easy to decouple. And yes, sometimes it really is just for the fun, but sometimes practicality counts, at least a little.

That was a great project. Thank you for sharing it. A humble suggestion though. A locking mechanism below the spare wheel should be added to prevent the top from bouncing on bumpy or off the track dirt roads. And also for security of items of course. Just a suggestion. Edit: Also rubber mud guards/flaps, like the ones on the back wheels of bikes, on each side below the 'ventilation slots' (I'm not sure of the correct term) for monsoons or dirt roads. Good luck with all your future projects.
@jakefriesenjake
@jakefriesenjake 2 жыл бұрын
Don't know about mud flaps, but how about at least putting on those rubber hood clamp things found on jeeps? That would keep the lid from bouncing around. A little lock would be cool, but the lock picking lawyer could break into it no problem anyways......
