@@DraedenOfficial Nah, I don't really focus on full song productions anymore, but I do like to see videos of this incredible sound design. Sometimes every once in a while I'll try to make a full song using these techniques, but they never usually turn out great :P I usually just go on little sound design bursts, and just make a short loop rather than a full song sometimes. But sometimes I do end up working on a full song, mostly in mid-tempo. :D I have never really seen anybody so closely follow the guide that Mick himself made so that's awesome :D

Not gonna lie. This is very impressive and highly educational. Thank you for sharing. Great insightful video. This helped me out a lot. Strangely enough was one of your tips the most crucial to my chain of effects and why I didn't succeed at first in creating this amazing sound. Linking the velocity to the sine volume did the trick for me. From there on all the stuff you, but also Mick mentioned worked like a sharm. Thanks for this video!

This is so great, you really went all out in on this and I respect that! I'm having issues with remaking this, my bass signal just doesn't seem to get 'as' effected by FX as yours. The beat repeat, phasers, etc all seem to do very little and I'm wondering if it's a routing or signal path issue?
@DraedenOfficial
@DraedenOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
connor1uk Yo thanks for reaching out ! I’ve used some “heavy” presets for the different FX. A lot of phaser presets didn’t change the sound that much. So this is why I only picked some that added a lot of characteristic to the sound. So maybe try to circle through different settings/presets until you clearly hear a difference and stick with that? Hope it helps let me know !

Excellent video! I have been working on my own version of this synth with free plugins for the financially challenged among us, and while I'm practically swimming in effects now, I was missing the creative routing in this video. I was doinh 4 separate channels the same way Mick did, but VST effects dont respond the same way analog equipment does. Also, seeing someone shaping the sound in real time makes a huge difference in figuring it out myself, even if I'm looking for something similar but different. I bought a plugin called Tactical Nuke I really think you should check out and incorporate into this array. It's under $50 USD last I checked, it's a direct emulator of the Giger Counter pedal used in channel 1 AND channel 2 as a bitcrusher/waveshaper in Mick's original setup. Plus, every preset that comes with the VST is made by the man himself! Thanks for the video, man. Not a lot of tutorials/breakdowns out there other than the GDC talk. If you do a follow up to this video, you should go into more detail about the individual plugins for people who don't use Ableton.

Sure! Serum Sine wave goes into Path 1 Serum Sine wave goes into Path 2 Serum Sine wave goes into Path 3 Serum Sine wave goes into Path 4 Path 1+2 are bussed into a channel and are processed together. This is your "Main" Bass. You can add post processing there as well (EQ and a Limiter for example). This will help glue the different sounds together. I left Path 3 "less" process since this is the effect channel (delay and reverb) of the "Main" Bass sound. Path 4 is routed to my amp and I recorded the bass pattern with my microphone.
