Turning the Military Truck into the Ultimate Farm Truck! Spence busted his butt to get a hitch made for the Military Truck. He needed something lower to be able to attach to the wagons. It ended up working out extremely well since he can do 55mph on the trip back to the field. Also Ron from Hartung Family Farms stopped by and helped us out!

nice thing about having the dump box on the truck, if bad weather is coming in, not only can u fill the 2 wagons, u could also fill the dump box and use it like a grain truck.

I normally weld a piece of flat bar to the side plate that is snug up against the under side of the chassis then another piece that runs down to the cross member , takes some load of the bolts

You should add a connector to the center of the frame. If it is gonna be pulling so hard. And get one of those air bag hitches that will lessen the shock load. The hitch on our 2 1/2 ton farm truck has an x brace from corner to corner.

It looks like that hitch has failed due to fatigue right on the bottom plate edge that is strengthening the receiver. This is probably due to them welding that plate right up to the edge of the box section, causing a natural failure point. To avoid this type of failure most manufacturers avoid welding right up to edges, also shaping the plates so they spread out the stress more evenly rather than having a hard line. The only concern I would have with your design would be a fatigue crack starting on the main 5x5 box section where the receiver goes through it. This would be due the the main box trying to bend in half, right where the receiver is. However your box section is a lot thicker so you may not get this problem, maybe just check for cracks in this area at the end of the year. Keep up the good work!

You guys did a beautiful job on that hitch assembly and for your application I dont think there is any such thing as overkill! Very good truck although that little 250 is working pretty hard pulling that load on the road and I would guess stopping had better be well planned when loaded. You have a very good truck for your application not fast but its a good reliable easily repaired truck! Thanks for sharing the video it was interesting!

Hey guys, just stumbled on your channel this evening. Thanks for taking the time to video, video, edit….edit….edit and finally upload/post your videos for the rest of us to enjoy. I noticed how difficult it is to communicate between the driver and passenger while operating the military truck. You can pickup an aviation intercom (used) off of eBay for around $120, you can also find used or new headsets for around $200 each on eBay and Amazon. It’s not cheap but if you want/need to improve communication in the cab, it’s an option. You would only need a 2 person intercom (they make 2 & 4 person models) and you don’t need to buy the super expensive (high end) headsets for what you need so it’s doable. Just a suggestion in case you need the ability to talk without yelling back and forth. Good luck with your farm and stay safe.

Hitch is a great idea, I would make it even better and get those bolt holes all drilled out to 3/4". It looks like the suspension comes into play, but it would be even better if you could put some kind of truss or brace at the top to eliminate any swing force.

Definately in need of your own bin site. Even a 10000bu bin just to handle the short term storage for corn so you can run late.

@larrythompson8630
@larrythompson8630 Жыл бұрын
I think having a few hundred bu in truck bed. You have none of your load weight on the truck. If conditions a bit slick. It could skid the truck. The newer elevators I dump at have one long pit. (For both semi traps) I would think you could dump gravity box, and truck in same pit without moving. So a smaller gravity box, using truck might be a better combo? I really think buying, putting up a @5000 bu dryer bin will make you some money. I see them go at auction cheap. They are easy to move (leave roof, top two rings intact) You no longer are slave to elevator hours. Plus you can sell some of your corn dry. A 5000 bu bin drying would slow your harvest alone. But a batch/continuous flow requires much more investment. That 5000 bu bin could become wet bin, or just extra storage

I cranked the machine to max amps and my chart on manual shows I could weld 3/8 with my setup on one pass. I did root passes then ground down then came in with 3 lines after on side and middle to fill. Thanks for the comment! The stick welder looked like it wasn’t penetrating like the Flux. I had a decent amount of undercut with the flux.

M817, Cummins NHC250 (855 cubic inches of awesome!). Did a bunch of gravel runs in same truck….air over hydraulic brakes only “scary” aspect with a full load on the road. Did you guys switch out to Dot 5? A visible header tank for the brake system can give some peace of mind (just next to driver seat above dump handle)….a quick mod worth doing (the brake reservoir has an npt plug in the cap to run a line to the header tank). Great post!
@SpencerTV
@SpencerTV Жыл бұрын
Not 100% for sure on the breaking situation. Have research a bit on it and understand that a complete failure of brakes can happen with the original system. A good amount of work was done to the truck by previous owners and the last owner was unsure if the brake situation was changed. That’s something I need to look into more. I rely on the brakes a little as possible now and try and always down shift to slow down. For rest of year we will be using it as an off road truck for the most part. Thanks for the comment!
