In this video, I will be explaining how Hard Kill Active Protection Systems work in War Thunder. It will include a demonstration of the T-55AMD1 (Drozd), Merkava 4M (Trophy HV) and Challenger 2 Black Night (Iron Fist).
It will answer plenty of common questions, such as "Will APS stop ATGMs?" and "Can Iron Fist stop APFSDS in War Thunder?".

I feel like the unreliable protection against apfsds is due to the limitations of gaijin's ballistics simulation more than anything. To my knowledge there's no parameter for a round destabilizing unless it has collided with a vehicle.

Wow, I didn't even consider the possibility of friendly shots triggering APS. Imagine a shitty teammate at the beginning of the game trying to deplete all of your charges.

The slow reload time on charges makes sense, if you want them to defend you, you need to take some time to Defend the D point!

this APS is a must not only in tanks or apcs but in ships, jets, planes, submarines, camps, govt offices & vehicles.

fun fact: Iron Fist is also an Israeli APS, just mostly fitted to export vehicles or sold seperately to nations like in the case of the black night. the new Eitan 8x8 wheeled AFV uses Iron Fist aswell.

I hear that the russian Drozd is not very usefull in high BR battles and most modern missiles just ignor it. Is that true?

Accurate, Everything in top tier pretty much goes faster than 700m/s which is the top end of what the Drozd system is capable of intercepting. I currently have the Mk4M and just unlocked the Black Night and this video is absolutely accurate in terms of war logic and how these 3 APS system functions. Drozd is useless here.

How does APS works against hellfires? Does top attack mode makes any difference?

If it's too high it can't hit it, you can see the max elevation if you preview the vehicle in x-ray mode and hover over the aps

Active protection is bugged in this game. The 9M14 Malyutka is being jammed when in real life it's not capable of being jammed.

Been using the black night for a while now. The iron fist in the front and the back of the tank is useless. Like why?!?!?!? The tes already gone from 1200mm of chemical protection to 400mm. Why are people whining about something that is intended????? And Gaijin why are you listening to these people???
