Great video ... So many memories remembering wandering around that area (the last time I just wandered the streets as I'd been to the main things previously) and I loved wandering those covered shopping streets no matter where I am in Japan. Also some interesting places to try next time I'm there too! So main foods I miss too especially okonomiyaki and melon pan. And yes, it is the golden poop 💩

Most important tip: Go early or late at night If you go after 11am, forget about it, the place is swarmed with so many tourists it's almost impossible to get around.

I'll be honest and say I never would have thought to go to Asakusa while in Tokyo. But watching this makes me just as excited to spend at least a few days there as I am for Akihabara or Shibuya! I'd love to see a part 2!!!

Hooray! The guide to Asakusa is here. I think i'd have to spend at least a week exploring Asakusa (who am I kidding--I'd spend a week just checking out side streets, restaurants and shops!) Thank you so much for giving us the benefit of your years in Asukusa. It's obvious that you have a genuine love for the area and it's people. I am constantly amazed at how a crowded, bustling city like Tokyo still has incredibly beautiful little areas of peace and repose. Truly western cities could learn from this. Part 2? Yes, Please!!

I was in Asakusa for 8 days October of last year with my son we stayed at the Asakusa View Hotel and we had such a good time. I really enjoyed Tokyo can't wait to go back. ❤ Tokyo

I just went to Asakusa last year summer for 3 days, I live near almost exact area you introduce, but I never get to explore them. Those stores are so.. vivid in your video! I go to 新宿or 銀座to watch the art exhibition and go back to hotel, and lost the hidden gem around me. I wish I could have found your channel eariler! Wish one day I'll be able to go back to Japan, and stay longer to explore more.

Many do advise against going here because of the crowd and it being just too “touristy”. But hey, I am a tourist, and there are many reasons why the place has become so. It still is worth all the trouble. What I do is I stay in a hotel or ryokan in the area, and I wake up early to enjoy most sights uncrowded yet. Even at night when most of the shops have closed, the place is still beautiful. As this video has shown, too. There’s just so much to explore in one walkable area. I enjoyed watching as it brought back many good memories, and since, we’re coming back 2 weeks from now, I have new places to see for ourselves. Thanks for the tips.

The first time I visited Asakusa I didn't like it that much, we just went to the temple and it was so busy and touristy i didn't enjoy it. A few years later I took my friend there at her request and we ended up walking along the river which was lovely and slightly changed my mind about the area. I'm going back in a few months and I've def added a few places from this video to go visit and give the area a proper explore. Seeing it so much in your videos has made me want to give it another chance and this video solidified that!

I love seriously love Asakusa. Whenever I go to Japan I make sure to stay in that area because it's just so much quieter and not as busy as the rest of Tokyo. Plus everything around Sensoji is amazing. One place I love to visit is Mokuhankan for their traditional woodblock prints.

When I visit in May, I will definitely scout out all these streets, visit the cafes you recommended, pick up some dagashi and a cheap bento box as a midnight snack. Your videos are so fun to watch and will make my trip to Tokyo so much more eventful :)

This makes me miss Asakusa so much. Thankfully I'll be back for Sanja Matsuri so I don't have too long to wait. My little brother is coming with me this time, it'll be his first time outside the US, and he's pretty excited about it. Also, I just finished my history capstone for my BA on the history and development of Asakusa and used your channel as a reference on the modern look and atmosphere. You can now say your videos have contributed to an academic research paper.

Loved this area, shopped and ate here frequently! Prices are so much more reasonable and the whole place used to be so earthy and so old fashion! I guess not any more! Thanks Tokyo Lens for a wonderful refresher for me!

I went to Ninja Bar last week when staying in Asakusa. Incredible fun having cup sake in a blade runner-esque area of the underground. The ninja brings so much fun energy. It was a fairly quiet area after sundown, but make your own fun and it livens up!

This video is a blessing and a curse! It's so good, I don't even have words for how much I liked this tour through Asakusa! What a super video. You could spend a 2 week vacation and never leave Asakusa. My wife got a kimono on one of those small side streets. This is a great video to take with you to guide you around the area.

Thanks for this wonderful tour. I liked the way it was presented. In general while I do enjoy the super high production value stuff, too, I often find myself missing this kind of more casual approach. It's beautiful to get a view of Japan this way! 🎵🎶

A second tour would be great. I've stayed in Asakusa (my favorite) the two times I've been to Tokyo, and seen so much, but this has shown me I've also missed a bunch. Lots more added to the list for December. Hope the move is going well and looking forward to vids of your explorations of your new neighborhood.

Perfect! Many of those places we were at and enjoyed while we were there! Brings back so many memories! And you even got the 'golden fertility swimmer" or 'golden poop'...lol...I know it is supposed to be a flame blowing to the side; but we all like the other descriptions. Love the showing of the streets and shopsl many of which we visited both times we were there. And the beauty of the buildings and decor. What a wonderful highlight of Asakusa! Awesome job!

When I went over Chinese New Year holiday, I was so excited to take my friends to explore around Asakusa! It's one of my favorite places to wander in Japan, next to Ota. When we went to the Do Quixote you showed, there was an adorable couple selling hot rosemary lemonadas and tea for a quick warm up. It was so nice to chat with them and feel the kindness from that one warm drink on a very windy day!

On my first visit to japan, i stumbled across the denpoin dori as we rushed to the tower knives shop and back (we were in a hurry haha). I made photos when i went through, cause I immediately realised how beautiful the street was!

I stayed at Bunka Hostel while in Asakusa. It's right in the center of everything there. ~$20-25 a night if you book ahead. Asakusa was a great place to explore at night. If you like woodblock prints, Mokuhankan is near Senso-ji.

For your new home it would be cool if you did a video like this again, but for your new home instead. I liked this video. It brought back a lot of memories and showed me new places that I would like to visit next time I get to visit Japan.

I’ll be in Tokyo in June and I’ve been looking for other things to do or explore in Asakusa. Went there in 2017 and, side note, Nakamise Dori is both beautiful and empty before 9am on a weekday when the shops are still closed. The temple is open though so if you want to go in and pray or look around, it’s the perfect time to do so. When my friend and I left the area after 9am, it was packed. Anyways, thank you for the new areas to explore! Look forward to your new videos as I get caught up on the older ones.

So cool to see all the places I saw last year. We stayed at the Smile Hotel in Asakusa and it was very nice, clean and friendly staff. I will miss seeing the familiar places, but look forward to new adventures and new things.

I stayed in Asakusa in 2017 when I visited Japan the first time. I may end up moving to Asakusa if I can, when the time is right. I loved it there. So peaceful.
