I had to choose between a “SMART DOLL” ($ 500 ) and a UCANAAN DOLL ($100) I chose the UCANAAN DOLL ( due to my economic budget ) I am quite pleased with my UCANAAN DOLL! The SMART DOLL IS VERY CUTE AND APPEARS WELL MADE ! In fact the SMART DOLL is the one that “got me hooked” on These BJD DOLLS ! I watched a video on MR CHOO’S channel about smart dolls and said to my daughter “I got to get me one of those beautiful dolls “! I have mucho BARBIE DOLLS ! Yes ! At some 80+ years I am into my second or third childhood! You are never too old to have fun ! As a child I never was much for baby dolls! Then I”found” a ww2 GERMAN DOLL ( with a shady past )at a “mom and pop “ little country store “ ! I paid $ 1.00 for her ,in those days a nickel bought 2 tootsie rolls 3 bubble gums ! I loved 🥰 bubble gum ! So a dollar was like $ 5.00 in those days ! 1952 !my pre BARBIE WAS UNCLOTHED ! So I made her a snazzy dress ! Alas my little sisters was playing with her and broke her arm off ! I always liked making doll cloths and will again ! Keeps me out of trouble!👵🏻🙀 so my daughter tells me !😉. for entertainment purposes only 😉✌️. 👵🏻🙀🙏❤️👍✌️🖖👽. 😱😎

As others have said, your 1/3 girl is definitely not typical of how BJDs pose; she's "kicky," which is a stringing and/or sueding issue. Low-temp hot glue is actually a very easy way to add some grip to her joints and help her pose a bit better without restringing, and restringing combined with sueding would definitely get her in much better shape! Almost all of mine are able to do the "soft bends" you described and will just stay where I put them. I'd love to see you review a before-and-after with your experiences getting her posing tuned up!

I really want to tune her up! So you mean applying the glue right in the joints ?! I feel like such a newb I don’t know about sueding but going to KZfaq it - thank you for your tips !!!

@@dollvee yes! Hold them apart and add a thin layer of glue to the "cup" part, and be sure to let it cool before letting them touch again. It gives a nice grippy surface when the resin might be a little too smooth on its own. It's one of the first things I learned, so it's nice and easy to do!

Enjoyed your video 🥰 your dolls are gorgeous!! For your 1/3 bjd, it seems like she's too tightly strung, that's why she recoils. My suggestion would be to either restring her, suede, or put kips on her joints to improve her articulation. The quality of articulation of BJDs depends on many factors like the stringing, the sculpt or the general build quality. I hope this is somehow helpful 😊

About 1/3 Mystic Kids Eilin - she badly stringed (as those classic BJDs have different technology than SmartDoll (or Silicagel action figures), they dont have skeletal insibe, but string, which make some limitations in posing - like they cannt put head really hight for stargazing... In other hand their parts are pretty exchangeable, so repairs are much easier. (string is possible to buy in same acbjd, or even on marketplaces like aliexpress or amazon) Thank you for your review, well i wll add 1/6 action figures, which are smaller but also very comparable to Smartdoll and cheaper

My 1/4 BJD can free stand, thats how i measure if i restringed her properly. During the pandemic i had to restring her but due to the circumstances i was having a hard time finding the right elastic, i had to use a smaller elastic and was very frustrated with how flimsy she was, my family couldnt understand the problem, she looked normal to them, but then i told them "she can't stay no her own two feet by herself, thats how i know!" they are already a little creeped out by her but now that they know she can free stand they are straight up mortified! LOL thanks for the comparison vídeo, really cool to see them side by side

For BJD, some companies have actually a good control for the legs and the arms (so far, I have LS, RD, and TD and have no problems with the posing). Some have hinges and some movements are affected by the way they are strung (tightness). Yours is maybe too tight. People also suede or use a rubber ring for more grip on the joints (neck, legs, arms). I am waiting for 'the one' before buying my own Smartdoll but I am definitely a fan. The only thing I'm not fond of is the arch of their backs. 😅

I love my Smart Doll. I've got a traditional BJD designed to look like the smart doll. I designed and 3d printed her before I could afford a Smart Doll. I need to re-suede her joints because it does wear out over time, the hot glue gets too stiff to provide the correct friction. I also own some Tonner Dolls that are 1/4 scale. Smartdoll is my favorite though, at least in part because of the immense respect I have for Danny Choo and his company.

That is so dope that you printed your own though !! I have so much respect for that craft. Did your machine and materials cost less than the cost of a smart doll? It’s something I’ve considered trying but I don’t know anything digital sculpting! Looks really complicated but amazing. I’ve read on Reddit that the cost of sculpting can be the same as buying a doll but I know there is also the learning curve which - doing face up’s alone was a challenge learning. I have alot of respect for the Danny Choo train but some people really don’t want to board it? They hate on him hard ?! I haven’t looked into it though cuz it’s the internet. I love smart doll!

@@dollvee he's very opinionated and doesn't follow the standard "the customer is always right" I could go on but I'll just leave it at, Smart Dolls aren't for everyone. As for cost, because I used PLA not resin, my overall cost was much lower. Resin itself costs more and requires a lot more safety gear and others. My printer was a gift but they vary hugely in price from 150$ ish and up. Mine was about 300 iirc. The pla i used was about 20$ a roll, and I printed 2 or 3 full dolls at just under a roll each before I was happy with it. But I can also make accessories for my dolls and so many other cool and useful things. I think it's 100% worth having a FDM (the kind that uses pla/plastic to print with) printer
