In NHL 21, I relied on my scouting to uncover things like player types and, in NHL 22, player types don't really matter for line chemistry anymore so I personally don't use them. But you're 100% right, they can be useful if you're interested in that information! It's important to check the draft class and see who you're missing info on before the draft interviews hit in the 3rd week of June. Thanks for bringing that up!

There's definitely a lot to it, no question! It's difficult because, although there are all of these options, it often feels as though one or two small tweaks could be made that would REALLY make it amazing. For example, player creation is fantastic BUT if they could just remove the glitch that makes them take 400+ shots per season (which has been there for over two decades), it would be so much better. Small things that, for some unknown reason, are not being fixed. Beggars can't be choosers but it does get a bit annoying haha. Thank you for enjoying! :)

I go to watch a few overtimes in the playoffs but I don't actually play my franchise mode games in my YT series. I'd be curious to see how playing with the sliders affects the gameplay that you watch so maybe taking some notes on what you've said here would be helpful!

@@Data782 Well that's the big question isn't it? I don't know if slider settings make any difference on CPU vs. CPU games. It's something to experiment with, but I figure it must it would just be all CPU sliders, so if you set shot accuracy to a very low number like 10 (which I do), you'll see much less scoring. But then again those settings might be great on 4 minute quarters. What concerns me is that you'll either get very low scores or goalie save percentages of .800 since there can't be that many shots in a game, unless the computer has ways of adjusting for that. I find in user-vs-CPU games there were a lot of 1-0 in overtime games even with 6 minute quarters so I had to increase it a bit. I also wonder if CPU sliders affect only the CPU opponent or dies it apply to my CPU teammates as well. I'm much more of an on-ice person. I recently bought Franchise Hockey Manager 8 on Steam and I use that to just manage teams and quick sim but that's drinking from the firehose :)

Pro and default sliders are ok. Just put cpu passing down to like 30 and they still get 90% accuracy. The key is playing smart in your own end. Get the puck out up the boards to your winger or throw it around the boards the other way for winger to pick up. 90% + goals cpu score on me on Pro are from giveaways/turnovers. It's as if the a.i. is programmed to score that way most of the time and make u pay. Im on Pro in the finals with 33rd team franchise. I beat Tampa in 4 straight in 1st round, 3 games went to OT. Then I beat Boston in 5 and Flyers in 4. Now vs Avalanche series is 1-1

Hi Jay! When you choose an NHL team, you also get control of the AHL team that your NHL team is affiliated to. You may send NHL players to the AHL, or call AHL players up to the NHL. The AHL is a good place to condition many of your younger players before calling them up to the big leagues. If you don't want to have any control over your AHL lines, go to your settings and have your assistant coach take care of them! Hope that helps and feel free to leave any of your other questions :)

For my KZfaq series, I don't play at all! For my own offline modes (which, honestly, I haven't done in years now), I would either play every game (1-2 seasons per literal year), or once every like 5 games/games which I felt were big matchups followed by all playoff games. Really depends on your preference! When I sim, I use 4/4 on the slider :) Hope that's helpful for you!

The associate and assistant coaches seem to help most with prospect development and, in my experience, special teams! Getting ones that are high in "teaching" and "coach influence" is more important than whether or not they are a "forwards" or "veterans" coach, for example. I usually aim for one who may be B rated but has A ratings for PP/PK, and another who is again B or C rated but has A ratings for teaching and influence. Hope that helps!

If the player is waiver eligible, go to "roster moves" and select him. When asked whether or not you want to send him down to the AHL (thus going through waivers), confirm. If he passes through to the AHL, he was not claimed. Let me know if that clears things up!

Thanks Chief! To import created players into FA, you have a couple of options. If your created players are 17, they will be automatically added to the draft if you start a franchise mode with your custom roster. If your created players are 20+, they will be added to free agency instead. I can't quite remember what happens if they are 18-19 as I always do 17 or 20, but I THINK 18-19 year olds also get dropped in free agency. So yeah, if you want to draft, make sure they're 17! Or you could even make them younger if you want them to be in future draft classes. You can even assign them to QMJHL/WHL/OHL teams! Just make sure that, when you start your franchise mode, your custom roster is your active roster (go to roster settings in the NHL 22 game menus before entering Franchise Mode). Let me know if that helps!

No official retirements! But you can absolutely honour him by "retiring" it yourself and make sure no one uses it! :)

Unfortunately not! That's all based off of performance, overall, potential, etc.

Those teaching specialties only seem to matter for helping that particular kind of player grow! For example, a forwards coach gives a slight advantage to the development of your forwards over your defense. It doesn't seem to have much of an impact on the simulation itself (but, obviously, a coach with a defenseman specialty will mean better defensive growth and lead to better defensive performances). I hope that makes sense! It can be a complicated system but that's what I've always been told and seen for myself for the most part, as well. What's more important is the coach's overall since you'd ideally want no lower than an A-!

You can't add players into the middle of a save file, unfortunately :( You'd have to restart and use the new roster that you generate by adding custom players

Hey Ealan, is the player you're trying to call up in the juniors (QMJHL, OHL, WHL)? If so, they cannot be called up until the next season. They need to be in your lineup before the regular season begins or else they're committed to the juniors. If it's the preseason, go to "roster moves" and they should be eligible to get called up. Let me know if that helps!

I believe the 33rd team will always get the 2nd or 3rd best odds but the actual spot that you draft in depends on the results of the draft lottery!

Depends! If he's signed to a contract and in the AHL, you can call him up in "roster moves." If he's in junior's (or unsigned), you can't call him up until the next season after he's been sent down. Let me know if that helps!

I've never quite gotten a straight answer on this but, at least when simming, I believe that changing your head coach will have the strategy settings be that of the new coach. Changing strategy settings shouldn't negate any line chemistry boosts since it's the coach's preferences that take precedence. Hope that helps!

Yes, exactly! Those leagues exist in Franchise Mode and you can draft players from them, but you cannot play in the European leagues themselves. Your best bet would be to create the, say for example, SHL yourself within the custom league settings! It won't be perfect, but it'd be the closest thing possible. Best of luck!

The Selke is usually given to the highest scoring two way forward, the Jack Adams to the biggest "surprise" team (ex. A team that's thought of as a "seller" makes the playoffs. Never to the coach of one of the best teams), and the Masterton is a complete toss up haha. Usually to a random 3rd pair d-man. Hope that helps!

It sounds to me like you're describing a player who you drafted from the WHL, OHL, or QMJHL! Those players can only play in the NHL or juniors, no AHL. Therefore, unless you assign them to the NHL at the beginning of the season, they will be in the juniors for the entirety of the season without the possibility of being called up. If, however, the player reaches 20 years of age and is still not ready for the NHL (as most goalie prospects aren't), THEN you may assign them to the AHL. Let me know if that helps! :)

I appreciate you saying so! Trying to keep the franchise mode series as realistic as possible is always a boost for the level of fun, in my opinion :) Yes, EA has just added roster sharing! The newest update will allow you to share and download rosters. 3 points for a win would be a great addition, as well.. There are a lot of customizable things that could be added to the mode that other games have which would make it even better. Concerning the potentials, those are not necessarily their current fits. A player with "MED Elite" potential who is an 81 overall will still have the "3rd line scorer" role but, in a few years, thanks to the elite potential, will likely reach 88-90+ overall and be on your first line. The higher the potential, the higher and more quickly the player has the ability to grow if developed well. The potentials for NHL forwards rank as the following: Franchise, Elite, Top 6, Top 9, and Bottom 6 (followed by AHL potentials). For defense, it's: Franchise, Elite, Top 4, Top 6, and 7th D (followed by AHL potentials). For goalies: Franchise, Elite, Starter, Fringe Starter, and Backup (followed by AHL potentials). @@Data782 THanks for replying! Like I said I'm just getting used to the on-ice strategies but scouting and drafting I'm clueless. How did you make the decisions on who to expansion draft? I'm doing it right now, decided to try FHM8 for the more strategy based stuff, and it's like who do you want as your 6 defensemen? Ummm, idk just go for best combination of rating and low salary. "Yeah but he was an RFA and you might want to wait to see if he might trade or not take an expensive contract then again he'll be FA in a year..." WAY over my pay grade man. :) I'd probably at least at the beginning put so many of those settings on auto so I could just play games and do line and strategy tweaking.

Unfortunately impossible :( You'd have to start a new franchise mode and turn it off before starting! If you really want to keep your current franchise mode, go into the settings and see if there are certain things that you'd prefer turned "off" or to "auto" to make your life a bit more simple but, aside from that, not much else to be done. Hey Jasmin! Using the "authentic protection list" means that the players who were actually protected in the 2021 expansion draft by the 30 other NHL teams will be in use. If you don't turn this on, it's possible that a player who was protected in the real world will now be left unprotected. AI teams suck, there’s no AI rebuilding so every team is at the ceiling within 3 years. It ruins trades and free agency for me, very hard to immerse in a franchise with bad AI. NHL is becoming like Madden, unfortunately.

First off, I'd try constructing a trade with another team with retained salary just to verify that it works. If it does, it may be that the team you're trying to trade with is already retaining the maximum allowable amount of contracts! To see more on that, go to "contracts" and scroll to the team in question. Look at the bottom of the screen and it will tell you how many contracts they're already retaining. Let me know if that helps!

@@Data782 it seems to not be working on any team for whatever reason. I looked at the contracts, and the team in question did not have any salaries retained. In fact, none of the teams had any salaries retained. Now I don’t know if that has to do with the fact that I have salary cap turned off on my franchise mode or not, but it doesn’t seem to work at all

So I just loaded up another franchise mode and kept the salary cap on, and it seems like that is the reason as to why retaining salary did not work before. Very odd that they don’t have retaining salaries on salary cap on and off, but it is what it is. Thanks for the help. I’ll just have to try and get Quinn Hughes (the player I was going for) another way. Any suggestions on how I can do that?

Choose the league (likely NHL) and then find the player on whichever team you're looking for. When you edit that player's details, changing their salary is one of the available options! @@Data782 That's not necessarily true. If you keep Owner Mode on and keep GM firing on, you can get contract offers from other teams whenever your current contract expires. (unless of course I misread the question and you mean editing teams?)

@@wildbronco038 I understood the question as being similar to MLB where you are able to switch to that team in the calendar and watch their games be stimulated, for example. But if Jason meant go to another team through being fired, then absolutely!

If you turn owner mode off, the coach's salary will no longer apply (meaning you can offer them whatever amount you like). The staff salary cap cannot be raised but, since it doesn't matter, you needn't give it much thought. HOWEVER, I have encountered moments where this glitches and a coach will tell me that I don't have enough money even though owner mode is turned off. So, to remedy that and make sure it never happens, sign your coaches to massive contracts which will boost your salary cap. For example, if your staff budget is $4 million for four coaches, sign all four for, say $2 million each. Your new staff salary cap will be $8 million and, when you fire them/they retire in future years, their replacements will only cost a fraction of that - thus eliminating the staff salary cap from ever getting in your way. Sorry that this was a bit complicated but I hope that answers your question! Let me know if I can clarify anything else.

I'd be curious to see your organizational make-up. Do you already have 50 players under contract and/or 23 players in the NHL? That will keep a player from getting called up. It may even be due to the cap being an issue which sometimes happens even if you're under the cap but it's tight

Unfortunately you can't get more money due to the salary cap! What you CAN do to have more money available to you is move out players by trade, release, or buy out. In the middle of a season, pretty much your only option is trade. For example, trading someone who has a salary a $5 million for someone who has a salary of $2 million and now you have an extra $3 million available to you. Hope that helps!

100%! It affects a player's overall which impacts performance, which impacts growth, which impacts contract demands. Unfortunately, it's also quite broken so I prefer keeping it off haha. But yes, it absolutely does have an affect on all of those things!

@@hughjazz17 I'd recommend turning it off. There is more immersion with it on, I'll definitely admit to that, but you'll find yourself breaking your head with some of these guys haha. Players who are mad about their ice time while injured, players whose overalls drop by 5+ out of nowhere because of a small issue, just stuff that annoys me too much to turn it on. If morale is off, no, players do not always reach their potential nor do the never exceed it. Player potentials change according to performance (ex. MED Elite can become HIGH Elite and even MED Franchise over the course of a few exceptional seasons). Players must still have good ice time, linemates, chemistry, etc. to reach their potential, even with morale off. If I were you, I would try both and decide from there but that's what I can tell you!
