Okay so I advise you to start with stocks, When picking stocks my only advice is you buy a good cross-section of an economy and you should do well over the long term. The market will be high in 10 to 20 years, and significantly higher in 30. It's almost impossible for a company with no debt to go bankrupt. Canada is about 3% of the global marketplace, the U.S. is about 50%, and the remainder of the globe is 47%. Pay yourself first. It's time in the market, not timing the market. I follow these generally simple rules and this has worked amazing for me. Diversify, dollar or pounds cost averaging investing method, portfolio re-balance every quarter with my CFA and I have mainly an allocation fund with mix of SP500 managed ETFs/ index funds. worked out the best for me and my portfolio grew over 245% last year, just hit the 7 figure mark..Grateful to Emily Lois Parker.

I think trading can work. But not for those outside of the professional trading companies. Computer trading and huge amounts of information mean regular Joe's are at a massive disadvantage. Long term growth can't be shorted away from you and is generally an easier strategy.
