@@everydaynormaltraveler Taking volume down a notch would be enough in my opinion. Also, the transitions could do without the noise. Otherwise really well put-together video! Thanks for the info

I used to travel with a trollei back in 2019, I exchanged for backpack because, honestly, besides of confort and being easier to carry, 70% of my trolley was always empty. Also, for myself, I was tempted in buying more clothes, souvenirs, etc, because I knew I had space. On my recent trip I bought A LOT and I was able to fit everything inside a 30L backpack. I now use a Tomtoc 40L and a Quechua 24L for smaller trips. For my experience, the 40L is good if you go for cold places and you need more and warmer clothes. I also have a 40L from Quechua but I like that one more for roadtrips or camping. I don't exchange backpack for anything now. In my backpack, even if I go for 1 month, I only pack 3 to 4 cotton tshirts and 2 football thirts, usually 4 pairs of shorts (I sweat A LOT so that's why I use more), or 1 pair of shorts and 2 cotton trousers in winter time; 6 pais of underwear and socks (I always pack one extra just in case) and one puffy jacket in winter or swim shorts during summer. And a towel. I wear a hoodie in the boading proccess because you can also feel cold in the airplane and it doesn't take space in your backpack. A beannie or a cap in my head and that's it. Also the toiletries of course. You can always wash clothes wherever you go so no need to overpack. Sometimes I bring my nintendo switch or a book. I also use packing cubes, it's so much easier for pack. Great video, loved it

I forgot the tech ahaha I also have a powerbank, camera and phone charger, and a selfie controler so I can take pictures of myself if there's no one around to ask. I also have a military tag with my information in case something happens and I need medical assistance

Thanks, sounds good! I also sometimes use a smaller backpack, but only if I know it's gonna be warm. It all depends where you're going, but basically, as you said, with 35-40 litres you can go wherever you want for as long as you wish.

The Kestrel looks quite nice! Did you look at the Mystery Ranch Bridger 35? Seems to meet your criteria, but quite a bit more expensive.
@everydaynormaltraveler
@everydaynormaltraveler 6 ай бұрын
To be honest I didn't know the company Mystery at all. Isn't very popular where I live. I looked it up though and it looks awesome - must be comfy. The price is bit high, but I believe you only need a new backpack once in a decade so spending few more bucks shouldn't hurt

I really want to use just 30l and daypack. Need a large stocknof meds and warmer clothing. Issue is for longterm am asthmatic.. back hurts too do hip straps help please?
@everydaynormaltraveler
@everydaynormaltraveler 5 ай бұрын
Yes, hip straps do help a lot. Carrying a heavy backpack without them puts all the pressure on the shoulders and back. With good hip straps and, if possible, also a solid frame at the back, the pressure will go to the waist and legs. Make sure though to adjust all the straps properly. You can also check if you can use some lighter fabrics like down jacket or merino wool - if you replace the cotton clothes with them, the backpack will be much lighter.

What about your Airline experience with your Kestrel 38? Did they let you carry it on? Or make you check it in the hold?
@everydaynormaltraveler
@everydaynormaltraveler Ай бұрын
Never had to check it in. However, I haven't been flying with it recently on the budget airlines like Ryanair where they made the free carry-on smaller. Worst case I would have to pay a small fee to be allowed to take it on board on those airlines as well. But the good thing about backpacks is that they are pretty compressible ;)

Most budget airlines would make you put a bag that size and weight in the hold so you’ve saved nothing

Exactly. Needs to be "personal item" size (i e. less than 20 liters or less than 40x25x20cm) to fly for free on ryan-/wizzair. (Which is around the size of a large lady's purse/tote bag/plastic shopping bag from Aldi/Lidl. Which I actually took once as my"bag" because it fits the size restrictions) Which is possible, even for winter, but you can take a lot less stuff. Which is what you want because then your bag is so light you can take it with you everywhere all the time which really changes your travel experience (no need to backtrack to retrieve luggage -. ever). Yes, you'll need to wash your undies and socks every night but since it's going to be a maximum of one/two each it will be quick ;)

@everydaynormaltraveler 4 ай бұрын
To be honest, I didn't weigh my bag for a long time. I have done it back in the day and it was definitely less than 7kg. For me lightweight is key but it's more for the comfort of carrying the bag.
