I agree on the drip tape conclusion. When we were new to gardening we installed drip tape to our beds but experienced problem after problem with it. We had many splits due to the blistering summer sun as well as rodent damage. After several tries and even buying a different thickness as well as installing a pressure regulator, we still had a lot of bursts. We eventually gave up and the plants in our in ground bed really suffered. This year we will be replacing with drip tubing. We did a trial run in one of our raised beds and we were really happy with the results. Definitely installing in the rest of our beds.

My challenge is that I have established fruit trees that we generally water every 2 weeks, young trees 1-2 times per week, veg garden is every 1 1/2 days, etc. So, do I water everything the same, but use different emitters? Or do I require different channels for different requirements?

Great video! Last year I set up a watering system for the first time, with a 16mm tube, making holes (with a proper tool from the same producer) and using drippers that can be put where wanted. However they gave waaay more water than specified, and turning the knob didn't do anything. The connection was also poor and leaking was frequent all over the system, even though the parts were supposedly of the same manufacturer and type. The psi was probably the reason (main reason anyway) why these problems occured-- even though I installed a pressure-reducer, that specified it would reduce it to 15 psi / 1 bar. So in the end I'm left scratching my head and wondering what went wrong? All the corners failed too, even though they were really properly set up with teflon and tightly fixed. Many valves didn't work / leaked a lot as well. Weird! Maybe I just need to find another producer?? This year I've bought drip tubes, hoping that mitigating making holes and using the separate drippers will make less leakage.

Thanks for the info on drip tape. I was thinking about using that instead of the 6 inch drip that I have been using for a few years. I also live in the San Joaquin Valley and thought that the tape would drip more water. I usually go about an hour 2-3 times a week in the summer. I have wondered if that is enough for my veggies.

Hello Jag, I live is San Diego area, .5 acre land, shared well water. I have around 20 fruit trees and using drip for deep watering is not practical for me as my water usage time is limited. Have you used any type of deep root watering methods? Have you heard about Root Quencher? Any recommendations?

The video was a little quick and confusing for me. Normally i can keep up, but there's so much jargon in here I couldn't catch! My mom had a random long black tube in her back yard that's just been lying around and being over taken by hedges and weeds. Is that what was used? If so, his much do all of those attachments and everything cost. I made things a little challenging as far as watering guess I guess. But we've had a problem with gophers and pests in recent years, so i plant onions best the house, and there were already daffodil. Then i played other veggies and he's in a much bigger space, but near hedges (that the neighbor doesn't take very good care of. I also have a small microgreen and tomato garden under a tree, new respect and grape bushes, and now flower gardens with easy greens and beans up front. Any ideas for all of that that won't cost a small fortune 😅😅😅

I am designing my water harvesting system off my roof. I understand that I have to use non-pressure compensating drip lines because you have very low water pressure with a water tank. But my trees and garden beds are on a sloped lot. Will this work?

Hi Nancy, same for me. I'm having a hard time with the cost of everything. Research the 2 liter bottle watering/irragation system. I have used this method for planters on the patio. I just makes small holes in the lid, cut off the bottom of the bottle, invert the bottle in ground by plant, fill it with water and "Voila!" I like to keep the bottles upright so rainwater will be collected. You can keep the bottoms to put on the top if you are worried about bug or birds getting in, just take the bottoms off if rain is on the way. If the ground is already wet no water will flow out. Cheap and easy. Good luck and happy gardening !

@@LightBeing369 Absolutely, it does work great. You can water indoor plants in a similar way, I use a small jar or bottle, fill with water take a long string with extra in the bottle and take the other end put it into the plant a bit away from the stem and the plant will be watered. This is great for when you will be gone for days. You can even fancy up the container holding the water. Of course check to be sure the plant is getting an adequate amount of water.

This has nothing to do with this video, but I’m commenting on it since it was your last one. Do you know anything about lichen and if it harms fruit trees? Also, we have a fruit tree that some some white stuff in the trunk- what could we use and what kind of disease is it? Will that fruit tree survive?

Most Non Pressure Compensated drip lines still need atleast 12 psi of pressure. The water will eventually flow out of the dripper but it may takes 4 to 5 times longer.

We have a dog that is crazy over any plastic, or PVC. She chews all of my drip tubes and sprinkler heads. I've tried covering them with chicken wire, but somehow she gets thru that. My next idea is to spray tubing with Bitter Apple, but I'll have to re-apply that a lot. Any other ideas? Can drip tubing be placed under the dirt?
