That was a great breakdown of the rules for the game, and everyone was clear to the point on most of the rules. I did wish you could have completed the demo game with who won so we could have seen the end game of it. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more coverage of this game from your channel as it comes out in the future. (Wait until expansions come on for this game in the future, since with new stuff, keywords, etc. it will make the rules more complex if the game lasts that long.)

Great video to explain the game, nothing like this out there yet! To comment on the demo game: I thought this was a sure win for the Muna player until they played a card from hand over Meditation Training from reserve. It seemed like a game losing mistake, since Muna looks like a faction that uses "tempo" to outvalue opponents. The Sneezer losing its tokens is a big tempo loss, and I don't see the gain from playing a character from hand over securing a reserve card. Correct me if I'm wrong, but reserve cards are the only cards an opponent has some control over given the current set of keywords. Additionally, committing (hand) characters to expeditions also reduces flexibility, and gives the opponent opportunity to respond, so all-in-all it seemed like a losing play either way. Anyway, this game has quite a few fresh mechanics that make it stand out from typical "battle" tcg; it looks very accessible with quite a bit of "hidden" depth.

Very astute thoughts! You caught the most important "suboptimal" play - that would have certainly changed the game. I think you are generally right (and scripted it as such), but one reason a player might choose to delay using the Meditation from reserve is to avoid going "all in" on the Shroom if they are trying to play around particular removal for it. Going with the Druid first allows them to respond more flexibly if the opponent chooses to play out their interaction on the shroom in the next action! The game absolutely has a lot of hidden depth, and putting in plays like this opens up conversations for players interested in finding it. I was completely interested, then became disinterested once I played Altered tcg on Boardgame Arena. Mechanics and play didn't capture that feeling for me like Sorcery or FaB does.

I can't speak for everyone, but I have never needed to use additional methods of tracking stat sums. They are all visible on the board and adding them isn't too taxing in my experience!

Very very cool TCG. I can't wait to look at it! I have a little question, if someone knows! During the cleanup step, if both players have to many cards in their reserve, who should send some cards to the discard pile first? The one with the first turn token? Because based on what your opponent is sending to the discard pile, you may want to send specific cards to your discard pile - is there a rule to prevent players from waiting each other to start discarding?

Yes, the player who has the first player marker will discard down to capacity first each turn. Great question!

The only thing i might be afraid of is that a unique card might still be too good at some point in a deck build around it. On one hand i love the whole "its entirely unique card" But the collector in me also cries a little 😢

Does someone know what will be the cards size for sleeves ? Also unless you sleeve it with same back print on sleeves, you won't see the mana orbs when put face down on the mat 😢

Sleeves are standard American game size, and on the KS they have Gamegenic card back sleeves available so you can always see your mana orbs!

15-20 minutes is pretty typical. The demo shown is on the faster side, but the average game is similar to many other TCGs.

Quick actions (Exhaust and Support abilities on cards in reserve) are used before you Play a Card or Pass, always - yes!

I heard the multiplayer version is a team variant played 2 vs 2. That’s really a bummer for me because I really hoped a game without knocking out opponents would have a multiplayer variant for any number of players that are playing individually. I don’t get why every tcg is so focused on 1 vs 1 competitive gaming when there is really a place for a truly multiplayer focused tcg

The only reason why this game will most likely fail is that it includes a bit too many things in a single game, too complex for its own good. You can say it is not, and there may be a time in which you play it naturally but to get there might not he that easy. It is not modern day Yugioh complicated but Yugioh is here now because it started out really simple and got more advanced as time went on. This game is complicated from the start and this is the issue.

That wouldn't work for Altered, unfortunately! Judges can deck check faster and more effectively than any other game by scanning their phone over your deck's QR codes, and when you play someone with a Unique card in a language you don't read, you need to be able to get the card's translation by scanning its code :) Totally cool if you don't vibe the game, but I will add that the majority of people I've talked to about it have said that after a game or two, they no longer noticed the QR codes on the cards.

I thought the same when I first learned and played. I’ve played about 20ish games or so now and I’ve learned it’s actually very strategic, especially once you know both your cards and the possible cards the opponents is playing in their deck. Except for Lyra. Lyra is pure chaos.

@@woundsdrone since you've played a bunch of games already, what would you "label" the different faction playstyles as ? From the demo game and what I already looked at on others cards : - Muna is playing around buffs and anchor keyword to slowly but surely keep the pressure on one side - Ordis relies a lot on tokens and global buffs to suddently take control of the board on strategic turns - Axiom invades the board with Brassbugs and use landmarks and other cards to play around them - Bravo have a lot of characters with strong basic stats or which get boosted upon being played - Yzmir denies the opponent with Sabotage and counter cards rather than coming out the strongest on the board - Lyra is... yeah... Orks from Warhammer 40K : lots of dices

@@Nickydigit I think you nailed it. I wouldn’t know about the Lyra - Warhammer connection because I’ve never played w40k, but Lyra is all about taking risk and rolling dice, it felt to me too swingy. Yzmir is all about control, going second is huge in this game and Alesha’s “after you” ability is actually really good. I’ve played at least one game with each faction and stuck with Bravos and Ordis as my favorites to play.

⁠@@Nickydigitlol! yeah I backed one of each starter on Kickstarter. If I see the game succeed in my local area I’ll jump into it deeper. Axiom was my 3rd fav to play, I need to try it again, I played my first few games with it and it felt like a faction that wasn’t as beginner friendly. Muna and Bravos are more straight forward. Just a fantastic game IMO and I really hope it succeeds well beyond the KS!

There is litle interaction between players, feels almost like Keyforge.. I'll pass. Great video though! I never stand gameplay videos more than 5 minutes but I enjoyed all of it.

I will say that Ordis vs Muna is often a game of building bigger than the others - but decks can definitely be built with a lot more interaction, especially with the way the do Faction Shifted rares. Our most recent Yzmir gameplay video really shows some interactive gameplay off!

I'm good but also no Altered for me :D Said that, still, great videos. I also appreciated the Tier list and the overall focus on just "is it fun to play" and "is it fun to collect". Most content creators nowadays focus on the business side of flipping cards, which I personally find disgusting and goes against both principles, even more the community I am part of (Sorcery). This is another game that falls within the "not everything needs to be a tcg" category. The gameplay looks interesting but it's going nowhere as it is. No one will want to collect this and trying to fit it in the pile of tcg's that exist right now would be exhausting. Just make boardgames people

The creator of Altered is a board games veteran and already tried to reproduce the feel of TCG without the business model with Seasons. So they went with this format with that in mind. I don't think it's a misguided decision.

Are they really gonna put that Big ugly QR code thing on the front of every card? I understand the function of it and it will be interesting to see how that plays out, but man does it ruin the overall aesthetic value of the card...

Most players report that after a game or two, they no longer notice the QR code when looking at cards. The code being on the front is critical as well - it is used to allow for fast deck checking in events, to allow you to read an opponent's card in your native language (which is important because of the Unique cards in the game that might not be in your language), and to immediately inform new buyers about the digital aspects of the game. That said, the team will be looking over time to find ways to minimize it as technology improves, but they tested many iterations and found the simple black and white QR code to be the fastest and most effective for scanning, which they prioritized to reduce any burden for players.

The QR code is also the thing I dislike the most about this otherwise gorgeous game. But it do seem like it has real substance, not just gimmicks, so I really look forward to trying it out

I backed this in KS today its almost at 1 mil so few things 1: people are very excited for this game definitely seems very new and innovative fresh love 2: none cares that much about the qr code or there wouldn't be 1 mil backed Ina day 3: great excellent video my friend very well done on each break down from beginning to end 4: content for this game is gonna be off the charts can't wait to play this 😊

Great video. Appealing new game except their artistic art which is very cartoony a la League of Legend / Fortnite. Does not look bad sure, but kinda childish, but maybe this is exactly their target contrary to Magic for example.

To avoid having to remove the sleeves every time you want to access a QR code. This is particularly problematic for deck checks that will be done by judges using their phones but also when you simply want to access cards info for whatever reason (access the lore, access the cards in your language, etc).

So like i think all the digital stuff for this game is amazing and was following and waiting for the kickstarter to launch but when it did i read the entire page and couldn't grasp wtf the game was at all and they just kept saying shit about the booster packs and accessories. This video is the first time ive seen anyone actually talk about the game itself and not the digital stuff and like holy shit what a terrible game its literally just war but with more choices for which number you play Wish such amazing technology wasn't wasted on such a disappointment

I had my doubts going into a demo of it back at Gen Con, but I was very pleasantly surprised. There's more depth than you might think, and the game manages to be fairly unique both on theme and mechanics compared to other games on the market. If you are totally checked out, no worries. If you do have any interest in trying a little deeper, you can play for free on Board Game Arena for a few more days and see if it plays the way you think it will!

The demo game appears on the faster end, but the average game is not significantly faster than many TCGs on the market.

No, each unique card exists in exactly one pack in the world. If you open it and scan it, its yours to do whatever you want with. Each card title will have up to thousands of unique versions.
