Glue two pieces of leather on the end of the clamp jaws to keep it from scratching.

I just purchased this and it works great. I like how you run the platen straight up and down. I did it with platen laid back and you have to reach out and seems to allow for some unnecessary arm movement. I will try your method next time. And the trick for leather strop should fix the little problem I had with it rounding over and seems to dull it a little. Thanks for the advice.

Great video and I absolutely agree with you 100% that this is the best system out there. I seen your video on the AmeriBrade grinder and purchased it along with the knife sharpener. I get the same exact results. Thanks for making this video and all your others!

thanks Walter. for what it is worth, I use the same basic process without the jig on my kmg. The leather is awesome. I got the idea from an old Steven R. Johnson video (he used disc sanders with cork and leather). This leather belt has been my secret weapon for quick sword sharpening, too. It looks like a Lansky system for a belt grinder. But, it was good to learn that this worked better for you than the paper wheel system on a little bench grinder that a number of people use. thanks for the insights.

I just bought my first 2x72 and now i am seriously considering ordering this immediately. It only took one knife of sharpening by hand on the TSPROF that started with a pretty thick edge out of heat treat to convince me lol.

Your just going to burn the edge on the belts. Stick with the tsprof. It may take longer but you will have better edges.

The Ameribrade 2x72 has a tracking knob on the left side in back in front of the motor. This one is for the reverse tracking. Best sharpening system I have used!

Try some leather conditioner and Tormek Stropping Paste on the leather belt. I apply the Tormek paste before every sharpening session and find that it works way better than the green or white compounds that build up on the belt over time.

I used an oscillating multi tool to sharpen my knife, worked amazing actually. I used the fuel milwuakee m18. I wish they made specific sandpaper for knife sharpening, though.

Maaaaan, been looking for something like this for years!! I cobbled together my own set up to attempt this, but it never really worked well at all. Might have to save up my Canadian pesos for this tool!

I tried the whole leather strop on a grinder with no reverse. Knife cut it in half the second it touched the leather and sent the belt flying. Luckily the knife stayed in my hand.

My TA Agent would be my go to EDC if it had a horizontal carry system. The spin is capable of striking a faro rod and skinning game. I'd just prefer a horizontal leather carry option

I'm wondering if it couldn't be used for grinding bevels in knife making like a Semi-guided way to do hollow grinds or flat grinds.

20 per side is more than i use on my chopper. i use around 15-17 per side on my outdoor chopper and 15 per side for outdoor blades.

My leather belt shakes like a hula girl...I see you'rs wiggles too, but not as bad. I scored one of these sharpening kits from Ameribrade with a 1.5" tool arm to fit my grinder, and it works pretty well, I think I need to spend a bit more time with it before I'm fully comfortable with it.

Do you have enough of the blade holders to clamp up an entire batch so that you can go through the belt progression without having to clamp/unclamp?

I don’t have a VFD so I can’t run in reverse and I’ve been getting an initial primary bevel on my knives by just super gently using the 120 ceramic and hitting it up above the platen behind the contact wheel there where it’s a little tight and not too much of a convex situation resulting. I don’t lean on it obviously because I don’t want to burn my Heat treat up but I’ve never even seen it come close to catching so I think as long as you use some finesse which you should be doing anyway, Mr. Sorrels is right. Running forwards if you know what you’re doing isn’t going to be a problem with regular ceramic belts. Been doing it awhile myself.

You will cause accelerated wear and tear on your tracking / belt wheels by adjusting the tracking wheel so extreme vs moderate adjustments to the tracking wheel with the added use of the rear motor mount adjustment. with proper adjustment the top tracking wheel needs only moderate adjustments for both forward and reverse directions.. improperly adjusted tracking will have consequences with premature damage..

Dont sharpen on belts. Thats just going to burn your edges. Reducing the edge retention, also make them more chippy and make the rc lower.

Water stones are abrasives that "grind" as well. They just are non-moving, whereas these abrasives are moving.

@@NuManXplore they don’t remove nearly as much material. I keep my kitchen knives, most of which are very expensive, extremely sharp, Finished at 6000 grit. Trying to sharpen them on any powered equipment would ruin them in short order.
