That was a brilliant analysis. Pi represents the soul, belief, and deeper understanding of the *why*, while Richard Parker represents the animalistic desire to eat and survive. Pi has to tame that desire to achieve happiness, salvation, and to survive. It's a metaphor of the human soul vs. the human body, and how it is the job of the soul to control the body, and to hold firm in belief when all is lost. Belief in a higher power isn't something provable by the animalistic human body, by scientific observation of what we can see. It's only provable in the mind, its proof is the pure belief of its existence by the soul. That, I think, is why belief and religion is something inherent to every human society throughout history, and why, I think, it is not something to be pushed away because of our scientific understanding of the world, but is something to be used as a tool to happiness and salvation from your own animalistic desires. This is the Buddhist enlightenment, the Christian salvation, the Islamic path to Paradise. Religion is a tool for consciousness and the soul. That, I think, is the most important message of this film.

His father doesn't try to break his faith with that demonstration... he's teaching him to not be blinded by it... He's teaching multiple facets of life in that demonstration - a lesson which serves him well to fight it out.. As cruel as he seems initially, he's the perfect father, who doesn't just go about protecting him, but teaching him to be protective of himself..
@prachishardul53803 жыл бұрын
Yes, his father did not narrow his beliefs and thoughts. Infact he made them more broader and made him to think about his every curiousity and find the answer to his meaning of life by himself. Even though you may not come to a favourable solution to all, but when you believe in yourself and something you have developed by yourself. You will achieve confidence and your own perception towards your life will be throughout, no matter whatever hardships he will have to face.

I have reduced into basic symbols: Pi is the consciousness, the tiger is the mind, the boat is the body, the ocean is life and the island is Maya, the illusion. The story is about consciousness mastering the mind through discipline and love guided by devotion and surrender. Your analysis adds a lot to what I have through, and I also agree with the comments below, about the strong positive influence of his father, who taught him to think rationally, something that is fundamental to avoid falling into dogmatic and fanatic thinking during the spiritual journey.

Every man bears the burden of both the divine and the beast. When we stare the beast in the eye we only see our own emotion reflected onto us because the beast is within us. We are reliant upon the beast for survival within this realm and must feed it or else it feeds on us. But The Most High grants us dominion over the beast, a powerful tool. He offers us salvation by giving us the long journey of life so that we may let loose our Earthly tethers and cleanse us of the beast through the crucible. Sometimes we just need to tilt our heads and listen

I don’t think it’s about “making you believe in god” for I think it’s about making you believe in your own faith, you could practice any religion, or no religion at all, but if you don’t have faith in yourself how could you survive three months at sea?
@akorn99433 жыл бұрын
There’s actually a fantastic quote from Pi in the book that goes something like “I have no problem with atheists, because that, in a way, is their own faith. It is agnostics who really bother me, because that is like choosing immobility as a form of transport. At some point, you need to travel as far as logic and reason can carry you, then jump.” I’m sure I butchered the quote haha but the point of it has just continued to resonate with me for years. I just finished watching this movie. I get what it was about and these are my kind of thoughtful movies. I was crying watching it because I related to the breakup of myself through metaphors and cymbils I did want to see this I didn't want to see myself and look back at myself and know this. My emotions are all over this movie. Saying good bye to either your old self, a time in ur life, a stage ur in regardless of what u have coming to watch this movie one thing u will figure out is yourself. Inside or outside ur gonna take a step back and reflect on what's happening and where are you gonna go from there. What are you gonna do? What do u want? Are you gonna stay the way u are even after you have figured things out. I'm gonna write myself a letter and open it exactly one year from today. This is my ship wreak.. This is my lost at sea time. I'm gonna write to myself. I'm gonna stick to it. Maybe my convictions of today will change all that I hoped for this year. But as the tings that I wished for did happen they just didn't actually arrive for me. You can make dreams and wishes and go on a journey but never arrive. You are just bobbing along those treacherous waters on ur own and sometimes u feel like ur drowning. I am not gonna drown. I'm gonna survive. Me in one years time will be different. Maybe I'll regret keeping things away from me now but it hurts to have them near me right now. Even thought these things are everything I wanted... It just didn't appear to be what I thought it would be. Don't love a person who half loves you. Dont be friends with half a friend. Dont half do a job if ur not gonna stay. See me in 1 years time. ⌚🙏

I also seen the tiger being his hero strength archetype within him, he never left him, he became a part of him. He is what got him through these difficult times, not eating himself up, but self love and it was with this hope which brought him to land. The forest represents life, the heart and soul which connected him to the universal laws of nature. It was hope of the illuminating water that guided him through this journey and self discovery.

Probably fellow INFJs and tortured philosophical/artisan souls. Starseeds in the house! Whoop whoop. The man (the writer) behind this story...it's like a familiar sense of inner unity. I know other's like me exist out there, we're just sprinkled so far, so few, and in between. This movie was soooo deep and yet so many just saw a long boring movie about a tiger in a boat. Thank you so much for this video. This movie has a lot of meaning to me, I was raised in a home where a little baby boy my two-year-old or than me brother, was abused really bad and then things got worse. My father would beat him in his bed every morning when he woke up. There’s very much more to the story, I had overcome 50 years of chronic headaches I figured out what the cause was, excitotoxins, by the way, all I had to do was eat 100% USDA organic and get on vitamin D3, a lot of it, anyway I’m still in that house. I’ve been living in the laundry room for over a year. I’m lucky to own a home, I have a plan now that I don’t have headaches I am working on it. This movie has great healing affects for me. Identify with this house as being the boat and the flashbacks of being the tiger, and so much more💜

I have seen the movie and just watched this utube interpretation. I believe the tiger represents the Shadow (Jungian concept) and Pi is the Persona of the main character. When he is in human society, we see Pi. On the other hand, when he is alone with himself in the struggle to survive, Pi (the Persona) is integrated with the tiger (the Shadow ). When he is finally rescued towards the end of the movie, the Shadow once again disappears into the 'deep dark forests' of his mind and now that he is in human society, his Persona reasserts itself. He is sad that he has lost that sense of complete integration that he had during his struggle to survive. Is this movie about our sense of alienation with out true selves in Civilized Society ???

Very nicely done. I always find it amazing that Pi, when we meet him at the beginning of the film, is a religious man. Despite the fact he had to become Richard Parker to survive, once he has survived, he almost immediately returns to Pi. Richard Parker leaves him without saying goodbye and he returns to his spiritual life. Its is also one of the best explanations of religion at the beginning when we see Pi trying out different religions. While Pi believes in God, the different religions are not really presented as beliefs, merely rituals that bring him comfort. While Christianity, Hinduism or Islam may make him feel closer to God, they are not God.

Amazing video! One of my favorite movies! I think that the "Tiger story" actually happened, because Pi's destiny was to lose his family, but God gave him a chance to suffer this in a less painful way, so he can still be a man of faith. At the end he understands that his story could have been much worse, that is why he tells another version, a much worse. God prefers to make he lives the "story with the tiger".
