WOW! This I have to say is the best "traditional" way to climb a tree! I myself have been training with Special Head Levitating Guy and can now ascend a tree without breaking a sweat, it does however have its draw backs as it takes longer and is less quite with the meditation, and oming chanting prior to my ascent.

I've been watching this video several times and yours along with Staggs in the wild are the most informative when it comes to One sticking. I just got into saddle hunting just before Covid hit and love it. I currently use Hawk mini sticks and I'm just tired of climbing down removing a stick and doing the same process over and over. That being said I'm finally going to make the switch to one sticking its a no brainer at this point and more efficient and much quicker. Thanks for making my decision to switch that much easier.

Like that you showed the whole process. I'm thinking the saddle is the way to go. I'm hunting really thick stuff and up a mountain. This would give me the flexibility to go where the deer are without buying multiple stands or trying to carry a climber through thick brush

I’ve hunted this way many times. As well as with a climber, ladder stands etc… this method allows for a lighter carrying load walking in and also allows a hunter more options than a climber stand. There are many times where you want to hunt you can’t because you have a climber stand and there isn’t a good tree to use . This system is just another means to an end you can put in your arsenal for hunting. You can literally get into any tree that would support you safely no matter how many limbs and where they’re located. It’s very versatile . However, It’s definitely not for everyone. Good job on this video.🤙🏼

I see a lot of yall are hatin on him for this being time consuming and what not, making a lot of noise.... My current setup is 4 Hawk Helium sticks and a LW Alpha 2 lock on. It takes at least 10-15 minutes to get setup once I get to the tree and have to climb with a linemans belt(safety strap around the tree) whoch makes metal on metal noise and adds weight. Then I have to climb back down, clip my pack and gun or bow to my pull rope, climb back up, clip in, and pull up my gear. Its not super comfortable either. I don't see a huge comfort from a saddle and tiny foot stand, so maybe thats a wash for me. Then the reverse to pack everything up and walk out. A climber stand is ideal if the trees you have are climbable with one and they are definitely the most comfortable, but heavier. Its all a tradeoff. I would pick comfort over weight if the trees are equal in regards to sticks or climbers. He has this down and if it works for him its super light and props to him for that. Hunt how you want, no one has the 'right' answer

It’s a lot easier than it looks. I promise. I am 41 and I have seen in person a 68 year old man do this also. Just don’t put the first step so high and you’re fine. If you can climb a step ladder you can do this. The only actual work being done is stepping up the steps and then lifting the weight of one stick to over your head and while you’re doing that you are literally sitting in a swing. If you know anyone that has this around your area most guys or gals would let you try theirs out. If you get on a saddle hunters form you might be able to find someone. If you’re in the southern Indiana area you’re more then welcome to try my system out. You can try saddle with sticks and you can also try saddle one sticking like this video shows

Buy a pair of tree gaffs. It’ll be easier, faster, quieter and you can still saddle hunt. The spikes/gaffs are easy to walk in as well after you’ve worn them for a bit. You could easily wear them on your feet for your walk in. One less thing to have to worry about carrying with you.

Exactly how i do it except i have 1 slight difference......i have a 6ft paracord attached to my saddle with a small carabiner then i attach it to my stick to prevent dropping it during my moves. It does not get in my way either. It's about 4 seconds to connect and I never fear dropping my stick........i once dropped my stick (a few times) so i started doing that.

I have a set (3 piece) of Muddy climbing sticks They have the versa button. I am really interested in trying the One Stick method but the sticks have the versa button. I'm just curious, what's the issue with using sticks with a versa button? Is it because the versa button would be harder to remove the stick from the tree? I'd like to change my sticks to cam cleats but the sticks are so old I'm not ever sure a cam cleat could be mounted on the sticks.

Watched a bunch of different videos now on climbing methods for saddle hunters. One sticking just seems like a giant pain in the ass. For me....I'm gonna run SRT method with preset loops. For the cost of them one sticks I can have a rope, a hand ascender with foot loop, and an ascender/descender. Can climb srt into the tree then repel back down. I intend to still carry my hawk helium with aiders trees I decide to hint that I have not set a preset loop or that's just to busy to get my throw ball into.

Try offsetting your body when hanging to reach down and grab stick. Then don't put stick under rope. Will allow you to get a little more height with each move not putting stick under rope. And it will drastically reduce your amount of movement. Im going into my 4th season one sticking and I've learned a lot. Haha to anyone that thinks he's making a ton of noise. I am thinking about getting into saddle hunting but I’m thinking the figure 8 descending system is the way to go, on top of being super simple and controllable, they are stupid cheap compared to the mad rock safe guards

Nothing wrong with using a figure 8. I started out with one but eventually got a madrock safeguard.

Hey man any idea how I can get a madrock ? I know they aren’t even making them anymore, unfortunately I got into the one sticking method a bit too late, so it seems. I just have heard the best things about a madrock, and I don’t want to get the Gri Gri but idk maybe you can help out with an alternative..?
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 2 жыл бұрын
See if you can find a trango vergo. It’s basically the same thing as a mad rock bc it doesn’t use a spring like the gri gri and they are easy to find. My buddy uses one and it works great for him.

Nice job on the video. I see this not working very well if you were using this system when it's cold (Below 32 and you need fingers exposed). Early season... sure this would work. Keep up the good work.

Good job. If you were purchasing the EWO Ultimate One Stick after your experimentation what length stick would you get (12", 15", or 18") and what step distance for your 2 step aider?
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 3 жыл бұрын
I like the 15” stick and the aider is personal preference. What I did was I put a tape measure tip on the floor and stepped up to measure my step. Make sure you measure a comfortable step though that you are not over stretching because when it gets cold and you have a lot of layers on you will not be able to step as high. I’m 5 foot 10 inches tall and I have a 20 inch step.

My tree stand is probably closer to 20 years old and it's still great I would have been up there 30 minutes ago! with my 2 piece stand it just looks like its way to much I mean it takes me about 5 minutes to get up the tree boy them does would be blowing like hell if you carry that in the woods

I got the 3 step aider and think I'll cut that bottom aider off , I can only use it at my first stick placement. I have 20" steps also. I've actually got the same setup even the cruzr saddle🤘
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a heck of a system! If you decide to cut the bottom aider off you could probably use a lighter and run it along where you made the cut and it shouldn’t fray.
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198
@theunsuccessfulhunters4198 3 жыл бұрын
Or if you are worried about fraying you could message DanO at EWO and mail your bottom step back and he could make you a 2 step aider.
