I counted them out after fitting a few. Now I know how mamy 6mm n 8mm will fit men n women. A TIP , the base of the fingers circumference is the wrist size, makes it easy to check before knotting.

The cord I bought is a bit heavier than it needs to be, so the knot didn’t disappear into the adjacent bead, but it’s not terribly obvious either. I’m going to do the next one with lighter cord. But the finished bracelet is much more attractive without gaps and overstretching!

Thank for this video! I tried making a stretch bracelet before and I failed miserably so I gave up. Watching this video has taught me that it failed because I made it wrong and didn't fold my elastic in half and I tied it in a knot once. Thank you for showing that not having arthritic hands sometimes it's hard and I always worry about the elastic opening back up because sometimes after I made my knots I could see the elastic slowly opening up by itself and so I always use a little bit of glue to make sure that doesn't happen lol but thank you you're wonderful

Aw, thank you so much, Denise. I really appreciate that. Yes, I can imagine having arthritic hands makes it more difficult. There's nothing wrong at all with putting a bit of glue on the knot. Also, don't be too shy about pulling the elastic really hard when you tie the knot. It's pretty sturdy.

Excellent instructions!!!! 2 fails on my part: (1) did not stretch cord & (2) used one cord...they didn't break but there were gaps so I gave up completely until now meeting you. Thank you for the time & patience in making this video & making the bracelet at the end. Hi Paulin, thank you for your kind words. Do you mean a stone with a hole where you use a bail, or do you mean a wire wrapped pendant or cabochon where there is no hole? Different techniques are used for each of these.

I usually tie a surgeons not and then 2 regular knots. I will also use a crimp bead that is made for stretch cord. On top of that, I add a crimp cover with glue in it.

That's interesting, Lorena. I've seen others do this too but I worry that a crimp bead will put undue stress on the elastic as it has sharp edges, making it more likely to break. I've found this method works best for me, but you do whichever method works for you.

Aloha! I'm glad you joined me. The elastic is actually some that I have had for ages and doesn't have any branding on it. I'm sorry, that's not particularly helpful. I did find these two online which looks like what I'm using. This Powercord is 0.8mm so could be too thick - www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h201702bs I think this one is the actual one that I'm using - it's only 0.5mm -www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h201930bs The I hope that helps.

It really depends on the size of the beads and the size of the hole. Use as thicker elastic as you can fit through the holes.

Is the knot through the beads after the 2nd bead or back where you made the knot to tie the 2sides of bracelet together?

The knot is in the same place where you loop the ends through. You just thread the ends through, split them, thread them through the centre of the bracelet and then tie them in the same place. I hope that helps.

Hi Sanda, normally I would use a clear stretch elastic like the one I've linked below. In this video I used the same one in black so that you could see it. Is the elastic you have very thick? Sometimes, if the elastic is too thick it can be hard to tie. I would only ever go up to a 1mm elastic as I feel that's about the maximum before your knots start coming undone. I have used a 1mm in the past but I feel that it's easier to use the thinner one so that it can go through the beads more easily. Otherwise, you need to choose beads with larger holes.

If you don’t have a big eye or a collapsible needle, try just tying a loop of strong thread through an ordinary needle and through the loop of the stretch thread. Pull the needle through your beads and the beading thread will follow.

Thanks for the tips, but I just tried using the fold over, double strand method and I couldn't get the thread through the tila beads and while trying to work them through, I broke 2 big eye needles! How do you get it to work? I'm using the elastic thread that looks like dental floss (its flat). Any help with this would be appreciated because I only have 1 needle left! Thanks for sharing with us newbies, your tutorials are detailed and helpful!

Hi C K, it can be a struggle and I've broken many needles doing this too. If you can pull the needle through with your pliers, making sure that there's no stress on the point where the needle splits, that helps. You can still use your big eye needle even if it's split, just turn it the other way so you're using the end that's still together. You could try another type of elastic. The black one I used in the video is flat but I often use the clear one (not in videos) which is round and a bit smoother which can go through. Sometimes, you just can't use this technique for beads with small holes as the elastic and needle just won't go through as many times as you need it to. If that's the case, you can use your split big eye needles and thread it onto the loop, rather than threading the loop through the needle so you're only putting 2 strands through the bead. Hi Bonnie, thanks for the question. I think the elastic that I used is a 0.6mm. Those Crystal Vega beads have a 1mm hole.

Hi Leslie, great question, thank you. I usually use either a 0.6mm or 1mm clear elastic. For demonstration purposes I used a black one here.

@@The_Stylish_Maker I usually use Stretch Magic, I was wondering what the brand name of the black elastic you used. I think the type I use is thicker and the knot would be too big to get into the bead hole to hide. Then I would need a large holed bead to hide the knot. I would like to try the brand of elastic you used.

Hi Christine, in this video I'm using 0.6mm elastic but in the past I have used 1mm as well. It really depends on the size of the holes in the beads that you're using. If you're using gemstones, you can use a bead reamer to make the holes in the beads larger as well.

I have a question about wearing your gemstone elastic bracelet on your right wrist and not on your left? Is there a reason for it? I find that because I am right handed, they sometimes get in my way, so I usually wear them on my left.

Hi Maggie, thank you for your question. No particular reason except that I usually wear them on my right wrist. I used to wear a watch on my left (until I became allergic) so that could be why. I do find that if the bracelet is not tight enough, it does annoy me. These stretchy bracelets are OK but if I was wearing a memory wire bracelet to do my work (especially typing), I would probably take it off some time during the day as it would annoy me. I hope that helps.

I’ll be referring back to this video again and again until I get the technique down pat. When determining how long to make a bracelet, we have to take into consideration the size of the beads used. Larger beads diminish the inside diameter of the bracelet.

Hi Bev, that's a great question - I always used to make mine too small too. I do talk about this in the video at about 8 minutes in but here's what I said in a nutshell. Measure around your wrist with a tape measure. Add approximately 1-2cm depending on how much room you want to give yourself. Usually if I'm using a 6-8mm bead and a 3mm bead, I just add one of each so that it gives me a little wiggle room. I hope that helps. Carol

So you can have sizes for kids and adults with big wrists? I also want to make some with seed beads. I don't have anyone to practice on so that makes it a little bit harder for me. If you ever do a video making the stretch bracelets using seed beads would be awesome 👍

The Beadsmith Bead Design Board that we sell has multiple sizes on it so you can make different size bracelets. I haven't made a seed bead stretch bracelet but it's just like making any other bracelet - just feed the beads on and tie the knot in the same way.

I will have to get the bead board for the bracelets actually I think I will be getting 2 my granddaughter Ella is 7 and she loves stretch bracelets and I asked her if she wanted to learn how to make them and she is so excited. What type of stretch cord should I have my son charlie purchase because he lives in Texas and I am in north Dakota? I'm going to also share your video so Ella and Charlie can do this together.

@@bevdowdy9483 you can purchase your stretch cord online from us but if that seems too much, he just needs to buy some bracelet elastic that is less than 1mm in diameter. What is the technique when you’re stringing smaller beads and you can’t get the cord twice in the hole? I prefer bracelets with small beads. TY

I probably used more for demonstration purposes as it's easier to show when you aren't dealing with tiny ends. If you can get away with less, then go for it.

Hi Silver, thank you for your feedback. I totally get it which is why at the end of the video I made a bracelet using the same technique with black elastic. I've done heaps of other tutorials demonstrating this technique but I've had lots of people tell me that it's hard to see what I'm doing with the elastic which is why I did this on a giant scale. Appreciate your honesty and hope that it won't put you off watching my other tutorials.
