Hey friends! In this episode of our Outback Australia Roadtrip we visit the heart of Australia - Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. Formerly known as Ayers Rock and the Olgas, these giant monoliths are sacred to the traditional Anangu people, and are significant to all Australians.
We loved the spirituality surrounding Uluru, and enjoyed learning about the Anangu culture. We rode our bikes around the base of the rock, hiked the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta and marvelled at the changing colours of Uluru at sunset.

Hi Guys. My wife and I are retired and now caravanning take a good chunk of our time. Being caravanners I don’t usually watch much van or camper van stuff on KZfaq, however we did New Zealand in a hired Sprinter a few years age. Your build videos caught my attention and I’m now enjoying your videos. No we won’t be changing from our caravan but we use it as a base camp and do day trips to places. You have wetted the appetite to maybe do more. Keep it up and provide more interesting informative videos. Glenn in Bunbury WA.

Cheers Glenn! I honestly don’t think the van/caravan thing matters as much as the mindset. For us it’s all about living our life now and doing as much as we can, before we can’t!! Did you see any lightning storms in Uluru Kata Tjuṯa in Australia’s Northern Territory and I loved to watch the lightning in the sky when it rains heavily and hearing sound of the thunder afterwards and Imwas fascinated to watch the lightning storms in the Australian outback of Uluru. I love lightning and it is beautiful to look at in the sky during the summer monsoon season from November to March in Central Australia. The this is nicknamed the Red Centre because it is so red of the desert landscape in Australia’s Northern Territory. I loved Australia and I wanna to go back.

We were back in the NT in March this year, we hoped to see a storm in Uluṟu but sadly we didn’t have any. We love that area too. Hope you get to come back some day.

It always blows my mind when I see the height and circumference of Uluru, as it doesn't seem so big when you look at it. I guess it's because there's nothing else nearby to compare it to! On our last visit to the region over 20 years ago, we only had the briefest of visits to Kata Tjuta, so I'm really looking forward to seeing more of that next time. Really enjoyed seeing your visit. Do you happen to know if you can hire bikes at Uluru? (as we probably won't have our own with us)

Hi Carla, yes, you can hire bikes from near the cultural centre. It’s well signposted.

Try a rubber door stop wedge in the shower door so it does not rattle.

I plan to do the same kit out a van and go where I can. I have a brain injury and can't drive too much so I figure it will be a slow trip, that's why I want a van that doubles as home. My questions are does my van need to be 4wd or will a general transit van do. I don't plan to do the whole of australia at this point, but hey, why not at some point, overseas travel on planes or to busy places are no longer a possibility as my brain can't handle noise or movement, but I can be in my car and view the world that way to cope with busy, so hey I still feel i can participate just have to do it in a different way.

You’ll be fine with a 2wd van. We probably use 4x4 less than 1% of the time. You may miss out on a couple of places but you’ll be fine for most of it

What kind of safety precautions do you take travelling so remotely? For things like mechanical breakdown, getting bogged, being able to contact support in an emergency. I recall some years ago travellers dying in the desert after their car broke down I don't think they were well prepped. I assume there isn't phone coverage everywhere. @@nigelandsueadventures

@@braininjurydiy there definitely isn’t phone coverage everywhere! We carry Max trax recovery boards, a shovel and a snatch strap, but to be honest we’ve used them more helping other people who were stuck than ourselves. If I was solo I would definitely take a satellite phone or some way of contacting help. You should definitely give it a go, it’s a great way to live

Desmond here it's only another 2 months to go before I start my 2 week tour with the group I have never be to uluru and northern territory. I did not know that was the oldest culture in the world is it very hot there does it cold there thats what I am waiting for the different colours at uluru are the flys a swarm of flys how far is kata from uluru

There shouldn't be too many flies there in August. It will be cold at night. Kata Tjuta is around 30km from Uluru, if my memory serves me.
