If you're like me, you probably just drive through Yoho National Park on your way to or from Banff and Jasper National Parks. And what a mistake we have all made! This park is spectacular and largely untouched - unlike Banff, which is really, really busy.
I've known about Yoho for decades and even promoted the park vicariously, when I worked for the tourism board in Alberta. But it always seems like a second rate cousin to Banff and Jasper - but it is NOT. It's amazing, beautiful and stunning.
So please join me as we explore the gorgeous Yoho National Park.
Thank you for watching the ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE to Yoho National Park in British Columbia. This video explores how to get here, how to get around, where to stay, where to eat and what there is to do in this beautiful park in the Canadian Rockies.
Thank you for watching and please SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this.
Here are some reasons why it's such a great place to visit:
Stunning Landscapes: Yoho is home to breathtaking landscapes, including towering peaks, serene lakes, thundering waterfalls, and ancient glaciers. The scenery is simply awe-inspiring and offers endless opportunities for photography and exploration.
Natural Wonders: The park is renowned for its natural wonders, such as the iconic Takakkaw Falls, one of Canada's highest waterfalls, and the mesmerizing Emerald Lake, with its vivid turquoise waters surrounded by majestic mountains.
Hiking Trails: Yoho boasts an extensive network of hiking trails catering to all skill levels. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll or a challenging alpine trek, you'll find a trail to suit your preferences, allowing you to immerse yourself in the park's beauty.
Wildlife Viewing: The park is teeming with wildlife, including grizzly bears, black bears, elk, moose, mountain goats, and more. Wildlife enthusiasts will delight in the opportunity to observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Geological Marvels: Yoho is rich in geological wonders, with notable features such as the Burgess Shale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved fossils, offering insights into ancient marine life.
Outdoor Activities: In addition to hiking, visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in Yoho, including camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, depending on the season.
Scenic Drives: The park is easily accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway, which offers stunning scenic drives through the heart of the Canadian Rockies, providing breathtaking views at every turn.

I hadn't planned on visiting this park, but with the fires in Jasper, my friend and I decided to visit this park and Kootenay instead. This video is helpful in giving us an idea of what we will see.

Thank you for the lovely comment. Yoho is quite small but so lovely (Kootenay is great too - just haven't done a video on that yet).

I’m a little concerned about driving the switchbacks to Takkakaw Falls. Do you think it is manageable in late September for someone who has not driven in mountain conditions or the right hand side of the road before?

Hi there. I did not drive the road during my last visit (it wasn't open yet) but honestly, as long as there is no snow on the road, it's fine. You can search youtube and there are several examples of people driving on the road. There is always a risk of snow in late September but the risk is low. If it snows and you're uncomfortable, don't do it but otherwise, it's not difficult and....is beautiful! The road is about 15kms long and it's paved and well maintained.
