Tug Boats working is brought to you by Alfred Montaner.This video is a culmination of multiple videos in which he found a way to eventually get on a tug boat on the Miami River.
Norman and Susan Hempstead had invited him to Hempstead Marine Inc to board the Jean Ruth and Atlas tugs.
The Miami River is one of the busiest and tightest rivers to tow cargo ships in and out from.Take a look at this multi angle filmed experience and enjoy every single perspective Alfred had.

I’m a long time commercial Towboat captain, I have worked most every kind of job from large tows on the Mississippi River to harbor/fleet work and bunkering. What you have filmed here is nuts! Huge respect to those guys for handling those ships in such tight quarters, wow! Just amazing. Most ship assist work I have seen seems pretty boring, but these guys….🤯🤯🤯🤯

We had a roofing sales guy come to our house. He did this for 12 yrs. He was telling us stuff and I LOVE learning new stuff, so had to Google. THIS IS SO AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing! I am 8 mins in and am absolutely intrigued! So amazing.

Absolutely, this is a first of it's kind video with tugs guiding a hugh ship...you did justice to the shots with your bare minimum camera. You actually jumped ships to give the viewers the best possible perspectives... great job my friend. I never knew before now that that back tug was steering the behemoth! Thanks so much for this unique video. 👍👍🇬🇾

You do a good job with this video. As a rule conversations with the captain before departure will let you understand when questions are appropriate and when silence would be appreciated. These tug captains take a stressful job and make it look so routine! Voice over and taking your conversation off the bridge is definitely appropriate and I’m sure appreciated by the captain. Overall you did a great job while filming. Your son gets a thumbs up.

I am actually on a kirby inland marine river boat right now as an engineer. I find your enthusiasm for the industry cool, we get to see alot of neat and amazing things out here on the water. I never realized how far you could drive a tow boat in this country until i came out here. It is wild

This was so cool. My 2nd graders learned about the homophone, toe/tow, today. This was the perfect way to show them what "tow" means. The enthusiasm was delightful. Thanks for sharing this cool perspective. I was so excited for you when the one captain said they wanted to take you out, I cheered! Thank you!

great compilation video of the tug action! I've tried to do some research on the Miami River based ships and can't get the stat's. I think the viewers would like to hear stuff like the total tonnage displacement and length and beam, maybe the draft of those ships- they seem over 200 ft in length! A comparison of their bulk to some common objects would be amazing- like this ship weighs as much as 120 semis and we've got it within 5 ft of another one! Some stats on those Hempsted tugs would be cool too- they probably have twin 1200-1600 hp engines but the torque is probably over 2000 each! Another interesting thing is those ropes they use- they're not typical nylon-- we'd like to know more about that too! That sound the lines make when stretching along with the roar of the diesel edited together makes a good theme soundtrack for your tug series! I''d like to know more about what makes the modern cruise ships so maneuverable now they often don't need tugs to move from the dock into the turning basin- I guess it's bow and stern thrusters? Obviously no amount of that would work on the river because the ship would have to have so much way on it would be flying!
@Firestarter_13
@Firestarter_13 4 жыл бұрын
Ships on the river are 320 foot long and under and 50 foot beam or less the draft loaded max is between 15-16 feet the tugs are mostly under 1000hp.

Actually, the pilot doesn’t actually “pilot the vessel” all he does is tell the captain what speed and where to navigate through bay, the pilot is the master of the bay the captain is the master of his vessel
