SAIGON, VIETNAM - Bún chả, a Vietnamese street food loved by Vietnamese people, Barack Obama, Anthony Bourdain and now, by me. I'm in District 2 Saigon (Thao Dien) to eat my first Bún Chả Hà Nội . Bun Cha, juicy gilled pork patties, silky soft rice noodles, delicious broth and a mountain of fresh herbs, what is not to like about this popular food in Vietnam? Ho Chi Minh City is famous for it's food and this one is right up there with the best and as I said, if it is good enough for President Obama, it is good enough for me. Of course you can eat Bún chả hà nội all over Saigon, but this location in Saigon D2 is as good as I ate elsewhere.

10:25 I don't usually eat like that, I usually put the Bún into that soup and enjoy it with some vegetable and Chả, Thịt nướng... I think u eat like children ( I'm not sure, bc children are too small to eat that big bowl so their parents have to take a small bowl and put the dish in ) but that's ok 🇻🇳😊😊

Gotta love how super friendly the people are. I wonder if their family is from Hanoi since that's a northern dish. I think you did a good job of demonstrating how to eat it two ways...but the 2nd way is that you toss the noodles into the broth/sauce and let it soak along with the herbs and veggies. Then you dig 'em all out and eat them in one perfect bite. Regarding fish sauce, "nuoc mam" means straight u fish sauce and "nuoc mam cham" means fish dipping sauce...but many Viets will just call the dipping sauce "nuoc mam" or "nuoc cham" for short - it's all about context of the conversation. You should try this dish in Hanoi and see what you think.

Hello from upstate New York, originally from south of Saigon in the Mekong Delta. LOVE, LOVE your vlogs!!! You should be a host for a food network or maybe you already are or a restauranteur? You describe the food of what you are eating so amazingly well, make me hurry every time watching you! one silly comment, when you squeeze the lime you should spread the juice all over the bowl instead of one area....Happy eating & enjoy discovering the unknown!

Everything Dac Biet works for me. When in doubt, ask for the special! Nice to see you using the condiments. Pickled garlic, chilli and fish sauce flavour combined with grilled pork is too good to resist. Before long, you will understand the flavour profiles and textural elements in Vietnamese cuisine. I am so glad you are enjoying all the food X

@@hungrytoexplore The thing is, it is made of fish sauce called Nuoc Mam. If it was a dipping sauce, it is called Nuoc Cham but it's still made from fish sauce. This is made from fish sauce but a bit more diluted and heated up, it's not really a broth or soup. I am happy to help you if you need explanation. Like most things in Vietnam, you can just wrap your grilled meats into the lettuce and herbs and dip it into the fish sauce! Adjust to your taste using the condiments on the table :)
@Melva-Tjong
@Melva-Tjong Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right Joe. I think you know better than me. Yes, it is well diluted fish sauce to almost a broth. The original fish sauce is very salty and unappealing but the fish sauce is already customised into Nuoc Cham or Nuoc Mam that tastes much better. I have learnt a lot by watching your videos. Well done.

@@ericamary6778 for me this is still a broth. It’s like using a stock cube to make a broth (which is common) and then saying I’m eating a stock cube. The fact it’s also got many other Ingredients to- for me, it’s definitely a broth haha
