Hargreaves met the umbrella academy in the 60's and was not impressed. So he created a new group. Just my opinion.

So a few things: Diego has 'Trajectory Manipulation'. He can manipulate anything moving in air and control their direction. Dave went to the Marines instead, so he most likely ended up living, although from his perspective he never found love (at least not with Klaus). In the past, the 6 of them (Not Ben) introduced themselves to Reginald, so he knew who they were. So he picked different children, possibly because he did not like how they turned out, however he didn't see Ben so he still picked him. Also, due to Diego's interference, Grace was not part of Regi's life which would have affected him and most likely made him even less attached to the world/kids. Which would have also changed how he raised the new kids.

the biggest things that the umbrella academy messed up in the 60s would be 1) telling reginald literally everything about the future 2) five telling old five everything so that when he goes to 2019, the entire s1 would be different because he has the knowledge of vanya and everything else 3) harlan having powers (plus his father dying) 4) the siblings getting publicity and being suspected in the jfk assassination alongside lee harvey oswald 5) dave knowing his future (though he does not believe it) and enlisting early (also, did the bus driver call him a marine in the end? was he a marine before or did that change something and he might survive the war???) bonus: some tiny things that might also impact the timeline are all the people they interacted with, especially ray and the rest of the activists, sissy, jack ruby, the whole cult, and of course poor elliott (rip)

I think Grace leaving Reginald had the biggest impact because it changed his outlook on life and that caused the biggest change amongst other things.

There are 43 Sparrow Academy Logo Easter Eggs throughout the entire season (important to note there are 43 children born on the same day). It took alot of pausing and rewinding to find them all, I won't name them all but will list 8 of them (to represent 7 umbrella academy members and Lila) 1) Dairy Goods Truck the Swedes steal. 2) Room service menu where Lila meets the Handler. 3) Calendar at the salon Allison works at. 4) Vanya's suitcase. 5) trash bin where Klaus vomits out Ben. 6) Bridge where Luther and Old 5 walk. 7) On Commisson's kill order for Lila's parents. 8) On Tractor Diego and 5 hide behind

Diego can change the trajectory of moving objects, which is how he can curve his knives. In the first episode of season 2 he curved the bullets shot at him and hit the Russians. Lila is able to mirror other abilities, however she can only do one at a time and it seems that the other person has to use theirs first. It is also likely that she can only hold the power for a certain amount of time.

I think what happened was that by going back in time and talking to their dad and showing him just how much he messed them all up, they convinced him to do things differently this time around. Of course this is Reginald Hargreeves we're talking about here and instead of coming to the conclusion that he should maybe be a better father and not screw up the children he "adopts" he instead opted to get entirely different kids instead (Ben is the exception since he was dead and Reginald didn't see him there in the past)

I have a theory that Hargreeves named the academy after Harlen (he probably became a famous supernatural hero or like just smth that made him take the attention and be known) and he likes that toy of his so much (the sparrow toy) Also when Hargreeves had a meeting with them he was actually taking notes on their powers,features to avoid adopting them in the future bc they were disappointing Except for Ben cuz he never met him He probably raised the Sparrow academy differently too

My theory is that the "dad" adopted a new group of baby after he see how failure they're after the meeting... Also he don't know Ben who is death so he adopted him. I think about it cause he said "I know you guys will come" Note: English not mine first language. I'm still trying, don't drag me

I think their dad Hargreaves when they had dinner together in Dallas saw how screwed up the “umbrella academy” kids were, and in the timeline, chose different kids except for Ben. So like the umbrella academy basically at the end became like a B team and now Hargreaves has a better A team of kids. We shall see in the third season when they make it! I’m interested in seeing Ben in this one too because he’ll totally be different.

I just noticed that the kid with the new powers from Vanya was flying a sparrow in the end of the show so i think that he might be the first one of the academy and after all the super powers kids being born in the 80s and he adopted some of them he named the academy in memory of that kid

I just realized the apocalypse didn’t happen in 2019 cause Reginal didn’t choose the original umbrella academy kids💀

At the end I think what happened was when they had dinner with their dad he realized how dysfunctional they all are so he got different kids n probably raised them differently

I think the Cube is going to be kind of like their "Ben." A member of the Sparrow Academy who died, but had his consciousness uploaded to some sort of alien tech.

Harlan has to be behind all this - the final shot of him was in the car spinning a sparrow telekinetically. Can't wait to see what happens there and see what the Dad's obsession is with the dark side of the moon.

That's the best cliffhanger ever, and it makes so much sense that he still picked Ben, the only one he didn't meet... And again, they screwed up

Diego stopping the bullets in midair was so random and so crazy since I never thought he could do anything like that! Glad to see your guys input and reaction!

I haven't read the Sparrow Academy arc, but remember, they did change the past, they changed when the powers came into the world. Instead of 1989 the first powered child was in 1963, as well as floating a sparrow at the end when they showed he has powers. So if Harlan has Vanya's powers, it means he will ultimately be one of if not the most powerful of them all, not to mention that power resembles their fathers a lot, like when we saw is home planet the energy resembled a lot like Vanya's this season when she transferred her power to Harlan. So given he will have time to master it, I guess he will be the big dog in the present and it seems the dad sounds more, humble and timid, like he isn't in control anymore and he is the new Pogo to Harlan's academy.

Major things they did to the time line: Grace left Reginald due to Diego Dave joined the marines instead because of Klaus Klaus left behind a super dedicated cult Allison married a civil rights leader then left him Vanya gave powers to Harlen Diego kept Reginal from being on the grassy knoll Reginald killed the cabal shadow government and didn’t supply them with rocket tech Number 5 sent himself back in time with the proper equation

In conclusion: DIEGO IS AN AIRBENDER (Atla stans will understand)

2x01 Reaction: Anthony calls Diego "Neo" when he escapes the bullets from the soldiers. 2x10 Reaction: Diego stops the bullets just like Neo. What a throwback. 😅😅😅

That's what happens when you interfere in the time line! The time line could have been changed because of any number of things that they did: Klaus' cult, Klaus telling Dave about his future and making him enlist early, Alison telling her husband about the future, Harlan maintaining a super power, Five killing the commission board of directors, Diego telling Grace about Reginald (potentially ruining any relationship with her), the whole family meeting their father when they weren't supposed to, and the fact that they are all historically recorded as FBI wanted criminals!! And who knows what Laila has been up to!! It's no surprise that they have f**ked up the time line. Certainly will make for an interesting 3rd series!

Can I point out something no reactor I've seen yet has noticed. Not a major plot point. The last time we see the young man/boyfriend of Klaus that he tried to warn not to go to Vietnam, he's getting on the bus to join the army and he's told something like "move it marine!"......he joined the marines instead of the regular army and may not die!

I heard on behind the scenes, that where they were filming it started to snow bad. So they added that power to the kid to cover the weather gaff

Actually the Sparrow Academy volume isn't even out yet, so nobody really knows what's going on.

Hey first of all great reaction !! And the audio was actually fine 🤔😊 and yeah.. I mean it was a pretty SASSY move by Reginald to just not adopt them in „the new version“ of 1989 because after that light supper he was probably like „nah I ain’t gonna adopt one of those idiots for sure“😂😅. That’s why he made notes about their powers and names during that meeting. But it’s pretty understandable from his point of view tho.. because why would you adopt the exact same children from who you know caused or will cause the apocalypse (..twice) and who will definitely FAIL all your plans in the future + themselves (even though it’s not their fault)🤷🏼‍♀️ and obviously he couldn’t make notes about Ben because he didn’t know about him being there and therefore ended up adopting him anyways. And my theory (even tho it’s a little longer😅) is that what happened is that there now are actually multiple universes existing parallel to each other at the same time because of the Hargreeves’ excessive time traveling and that preventing the existence of multiple universes actually was/ is the Commission‘s number 1 job!! This was probably also the reason why the infinite switch machine went totally crazy in the end of episode 9 and would explain why the Commission send out the Swedes to kill all the Hargreeves siblings because, as Five once explained, when you get killed in one timeline/ universe you simply cease to exist in all the others too. So by killing all the Hargreeves the Commission would simply delete all the parallel universes they created by accident and could ensure that only one version of them is going to exist/ exists. At the moment we for example have multiple universes of the years 2019, 1963 and 1968. We first have the original version of 2019 Five accidentally travelled back to in which the apocalypse happened as it was supposed to be with all the Hargreeves children (except Five) dying. Then we have the version of 2019 presented to us in season 1 with Five traveling back, the apocalypse still happening + everything else that happened during season 1 but with the Hargreeves children living in the end. Then we have the version of 2019 older Five forced his younger self to travel back to in season 2 in which Five already knows what causes the apocalypse + the outcome of the story (what doesn’t necessarily mean the apocalypse didn’t happen) And last but not least we have the version of 2019 the Hargreeves travelled back to in the end of season 2 in which the Umbrella Academy doesn’t exist and never existed in the first place + Ben being alive. And for 1963 and 1968 it’s a similar thing. All this multiple universe thing also makes me believe that Dave‘s death probably was no accident at all. Maybe the Commission ensured his death in this version of 1968 because they needed Klaus to travel back to 2019 (maybe the grenade from the Vietnam War the Handler showed to Five in her office was a hint to that?🤷🏼‍♀️) but I guess we’re going to get our answers as the show goes on😊

16:00 in my understanding, their dad met them in the past as adults and was dissapointed with how they turned out so he recruited different gifted children. Ben was the only one he didnt meet so ben was still chosen.

There was snow on the farm because where they filmed outside of Toronto they got a unexpected snow storm so they had to write snow into the episode. Daddy was just so unimpressed by meeting them so he decided to adopt different kids and call it sparrow academy.

Diego has control over Projectiles, not only the ones he throws, but anything moving toward or around him. That's how he made all those bullets fly the other way. Also I don't know if you guys have seen Heroes (It's my favorite show ever) but Lila is like a character named Peter Petrelli, in which she can use the abilities of those around her, she was able to teleport when fighting Five earlier in the season, we never saw her do it as a way to keep her abilities a mystery.

A friend I chatted with after the episode where Five is outside and sees Lila on the roof, then next thing she was down on street level, he suspected she had powers too.... just didnt know it was a mimic power. Such a good season. Such a great season. Will be a contender for me for best show of 2020.

I think that it’s different when they come back because they told Grace and caused her to leave their father as well as told him about his future. So I think the kids grew up without their robot version of Grace and with a slightly different Reginald Hargreaves.

Having read the source material, the comics (there are only 3 at this point) tell an almost entirely different story. The only plotline that really carried over from the 2nd volume was 5 fighting his older self

Maybe in Season 3 they'll meeting themselfs in this Timeline's version. Maybe they'll help them defeat Hargreeve.

Apparently there are lots of little sparrow images scattered throughout the whole season, hidden in plain sight. For example, the logo on the milk truck has a sparrow, and the record Harlen listens to also has a sparrow on the label.

I'm really looking forward for season 3 because things are getting crazy especially with the sparrow academy! The first thought is that Sir Reginald chose different kids because he met them in the '60s, and it would make sense, but how would he know which ones they were? He adopted Vanya as a baby, and I'm guessing some of the others were as well, so some of their powers wouldn't have been obvious, he didn't keep their legal names, and in season 1, it said he adopted the seven thst he could get.

Next season is going to be fire!!

Maybe when 5 traveled to the future in season 1 and saw the apocalypse, that wasn’t just a few days after, it was actually after the events of season 2 and maybe 3, that explains why they are all in the house when it’s destroyed and why luthor is holding an eye, because those two things did not happen at the end of season 1

I'm glad they gave Tom Hopper & David Castañeda better material to work with this season. They really made me love their characters. If you haven't seen Misfits yet, Robert Sheehan is excellent in that as well. Unfortunately he's only in the first 2 seasons. One of the guys from Inhumans is great in it too. Can't remember his name.

Aidan, number 5, used to be the UN Ambassador for USA in Environment. So his “mature” nature fits his character well

I mean they 100% altered the timeline, essentially throwing them into an alternate 2019. I think the Destiny’s Children will come in to play next season, cause it will have continued in this timeline. I wonder if Dave didn’t die during Vietnam because of Klaus’ warning. Harlan will probably be older next season and see if he somehow had a hand in the Sparrow Academy formation, since he was always playing with a sparrow/bird toy. I’m interested to see if there will be two versions of the Umbrella Academy, like what happened to the versions of them that Reginald didn’t adopt.

I originally thought that them going back in time was what precipitated their own "empowering" in the 80s. A cyclical kind of thing. But now I think it's possible that Harlan is somehow the "original" source of their powers. He'd be 34 in 1989 (he was born in '55). So it's very possible he not only has enough awareness, but also control of his own powers to do "something" in '89 to effect the change in all the children.

Actually the show is really different to the comics. They have like some general ideas but the show has take a whole different way. Also, the Sparrow Academy appeared on the comics at the las 2 pages of the third book, which is the last published and They hasn’t published the 4th, apart some general idea of what season 3 can be about, there’s nothing that the original source can spoil of the next season.
