Here’s a cool tip, just set up a standard Texas rig, but put a bobber stop on each side of the weight. Then you can either use it normal Texas rig style or slide the weight and bobber stops up the line 2 or 3 feet. Boom! Carolina rig.

If you tie the hook to the leader, then the swivel to the leader, then the mainline to the swivel, you can use a palomar on all of the connections, or any.other knot.

Hi Randy, it’s a lost technique. As a co-angler I throw it on sand or pea stone, clam shell bottoms. I was taught this technique and the boater said it is great for throwing out of the back. Thanks Randy !

You can tie all the knots Palomar if you tie the Palomar tag to the swivel first then tie your main line then your hook. I totally agree that the small hooks work best on the Carolina rig.

Hey Randy, if you want silence on your rig, put a bobber stop between sinker and swivel! Bobber stop will protect knot as well!

I drew a boater at an April tournament on Dale Hollow several years ago. We fished a lot of deeper humps with brush on them. For those areas, he threw a Carolina rig exclusively while I threw a football head jig. He asked if I was going to throw a Carolina Rig and I told him that I preferred a football jig. His response - "You don't want to catch fish?" After getting home, I started fishing the C-rig for the next couple of months. I have kept one rigged up in my boat ever since.

About fifteen years ago I listened to Larry Nixon at a seminar in Houston. He suggested trying Berkley Fireline with a tungsten weight on a C-Rig. I tried it and haven’t gone back. You need to put a brass bead between the tungsten and the glass bead to keep it from breaking. I’ve caught hundreds of fish on this with a baby Brush Hog or 6” Zoom Lizard. My PB was on this set-up with a full size Brush Hog. Randy I agree with you on leader length and hook size. I thing most people make them too long and use too big of a hook. I use a Gamakatsu 2/0 RB offset shank most of the time. Thanks.

I want to try a Carolina rig on the saltwater grass flats with a Z Man soft plastic and light hook so it floats above the grass. The weight might catch in the grass. We use a rig like that for live bait with the sliding sinker but no beads. But a short leader with the beads might be awesome for flounder. That's one reason I watch you and Matt Stefan, to learn stuff I can use for the salty fish.

Man 20 years ago Carolina rig was the best bait for structure next to a deep divin crankbait

1/0-2/0 gama is perfect because you want your lure to be more boayant and bounce around up off the bottom more. It's possibly the best deep water search bait ever! I also use a very light version with a 3/8 oz. And a 5" lizard for super shallow water!

Great advice I have a C-rig ready 12 months of the year. I’ve used about everything on the hook, letting the fish try to get through my thick skull. Funny the extremes are my favorites, a 4” French fry, 4” ring worm or 12” curl tail worm. Thanks for the videos Tight lines and Godspeed

I have a Carolina rig tied up on one rod no matter what time of year it is. I always catch bigger fish with the C rig than my buddy who uses a Texas rig. Sometimes he catches more but I usually always catch better size. When nothing else is working, I can usually always catch some on a C rig with a lizard.

IMO, the mojo rig (with a tungsten barrel/slider weight and carolina keeper and/or peg) renders the carolina rig obsolete. The mojo comes through cover better, has no additional knots or hardware so your line is continuous from reel to hook, and it's easier/faster to rig. Rigging to make a clicking sound is optional.

Tie your swivel to leader line first then you can use palmer on both sides.

I use the palmar on every hook and swivel joint no clinch knot. Just me I guess .🤷🏼‍♂️

How can we trust pros to tell us the truth about how a particular bait performs during any given conditions when they are sponsored by particular brands and have incentives to sell us as many baits as possible? It's the California rig. closer to the 1880s (same century) than the 1980s that the claimed carolina rig was invented. Maybe I'll put together a little video essay on it, after I mow the lawn and then go mushroom hunting today...no promises with ADD tho.
