Yes! Great casting and storytelling. As an African audience member, a lot of emotions were conjured up and a lot of new information was learned with regards to slavery. This project is so relevant for today’s climate. Stellar job from Barry! 👏🏾

Although I was warned not to binge watch, I did and enjoyed every episode! Compelling story telling and exceptional performances from home girl Thuso, Chase as Homer, Joel as Ridgeway and how can I forget Caesar and Cora's Royal. The series is highly emotive tells a story that is still relevant and has a place TODAY in 2021!! Kudus Barry well done ....

I can't thank you enough for this Berry. You have actually emancipated my spirit by awarding Thuso the role of Corah. As a South African I am intrigued at how much I can relate to this story line of slavery.

Such an insightful Q&A! Also, I have been waiting for an interviewer to acknowledge the performance of Chase Dillon. I hope you could arrange another Q&A with other cast members, also. Thank you.

I did love the show, and yet I do find it odd that none of these actors were actually descended from American slaves. The performances were incredible, but I can't get it out of my mind that it didn't happen to their ancestors.

Does it really matter if Actors are not from America though. For example we had Americans portraying our South African history movie and we never had issues about that. The likes of Morgan Freeman, Adris Alba & Jennifer Hudson so just enjoy the series and stop complaining

@@Itumelengmatlou ....excuse me? It's very rare for americans to play other ethnic groups or cultures, but it happens all the time to us. every one of our major figures has been played by someone mixed or not american- harriet, fred hampton, mlk, coretta, 12 years a slave- they were all foreign. it's an acting opportunity for them, not a journey into their past like it clearly was for Barry.

How do you know they are not their ancestors remember Black Americans like it or not are from Africa and Africans playing those roles its a good thing they can relate one way the other ,Africans knows struggles more than any other continent so they can relate and be able to bring out those characters. It doesn't matter where one is from what matters is the skills to be able to bring out emotions and take us to those days with our imaginery,I don't think there's anyone from those times alive today so it doesn't make any difference if it's American or African 6 and 9 are the same.

Simba Hunter is right! I agree with Simba. I have not yet watched the series because I don't have an Amazon account; However, I viewed the Trailer and I watched Oprah Winfrey's interview of the African Actress who plays the lead character, Cora. I liked the actress but, I still felt a resentment as I explain below. Although, I'm sure I will appreciate the talent and skills of the actors/actresses in the series when I am able to watch it: I did have a feeling of "resentment" that all of the Black cast, perhaps except one minor role are played by foreigners. This reminds me of the ongoing expression of White American prejudice, that no matter how Black in all physical characteristics a Black foreigner may be, including Black Africans, often prejudiced White Americans like to feel these Blacks because they are foreign are not exactly the "home grown" Black and in their White prejudice they go on to applaud and give preferential positions to that Black foreigner, then to a Black American who is descendant from the American Slave trade. It helps the prejudiced White in some "insane" way to not give credit to the slave descendant that they still deeply want to keep from progressing in any way possible and that includes not give that Black descendant of slave ancestors positions wherein applause could be reaped. Indeed, White American Racism is supported by a continual hatred that the Black slave was able to survive after the brutal de-humanizing slavery and was able to eke out some progress with no help from government (not given reparations of help which all other countries have gotten from America after their defeat). The Black slave was just thrust upon the road not even with a old crusty biscuit, wearing rags and often no shoes, they were supposed to die, hence, the more than 100/years of almost weekly lynchings (to date murders by White cops) done to Blacks. Whereas, we have thousands of Black American actors/actresses who have been working for more than a century at their craft, working hard!... and expending lots of monetary expense,... I FELT RESENTMENT THAT THESE EXTREMELY HARD WORKING AND MANY VERY TALENTED BLACK AMERICAN ACTORS/ACTRESSES WERE NOT EMPLOYED IN AT LEAST A FEW OF THE LEAD ROLES. And, let me close with: I AM A DESCENDANT OF THE AFRICAN SLAVERY HERE IN AMERICA. My grandfather was a slave on the Birmingham, Alabama plantation until he reckons about the age of ten, not having a birth certificate. And I knew my grandfather, having spent summers with him as a growing child. My grandfather was 20/years older then my grandmother and thats why I could experience knowing an actual slave from that colonial period.

I couldnt get myself to read the entire comment. I'm just overwhelmed by it all. In South Africa, our stories of oppression are led by African Americans, but we dont complain and write such comments about 'resentment'. Can we just focus on the craft and genious that is Barry for bringing together all these actors from diverse backgrounds to tell stories of our history.

@@bongibongz3867 i just don't get it either. They are just being bitter. We had Morgan Freeman portraying character of Mandela and we never uttered such words as resentment.

Idris Alba, Morgan Freeman, Leornado Di Caprio, Jennifer Hudson, Terrence Howard, Elias Koteas, Naomie Harris, Forest Whitaker and and and the list goes on of foreign actors playing African roles. ‘Resentment.’ 🤨🤔Clearly perpetuating the cycle of self hate African American person. You are also contradictory in your statement as you have are of African descent living in America. Does time spent in the US qualify you as an American? Perhaps yes if you are a citizen. However you also came from somewhere to settle there. You are undermining the integrity of this process. Take your sentiment up with Barry who casted Thuso. Your statement is retrogressive

I am also saddened to learn that after all the work done to conquer self-hate someone comes up with such comments. Many stories of our history (South African and African) has been starred by African - Americans who has years of experience but couldn't care to put in work to pronounce a simple word "AMANDLA" (meaning POWER ) correctly but we never said a word because we consider Black-Americans and Blacks everywhere else in the world our brothers and sisters, if they tell a story it's our story and if we tell a story we think of it as their story too. We have a lot of actors and actresses who could nail those roles at their sleep, without even proper training but because they were given to our fellow brothers and sisters we understood. Now all this is truly disheartening because I can't think of any actress in the world who could deliver what Thuso Mbedu has delivered in the series and also the other foreign actors and actresses brought their "A" game.
