I used to hear Redbone on the radio I thought it was a classic. But my friend told me it was a Donald Glover song and I could hardly believe it. Redbone really is an abnormality, it's bizarre to see a song of that type reach the charts in this decade, but it's also incredible. Godspeed to Donald Glover for making such a cool song.

@augustgreig9420
@augustgreig9420 4 жыл бұрын
@@justjoshua0121 Well, he could very well do what a lot of other artists have done in this situation and depending on the success of the next album, he jus won't release anymore as Gambino. So he'll either come up with a new persona, or straight up release them as Donald Glover. Because if his final release as Gambino does well, him and his producers aren't dumb, they aren't going to leave all of that money just sitting on the table that they could all make from him releasing new albums. So I'd say it's pretty likely well see that, and pretty likely it'll come along side a style change, unless it really is all about the money, in which case he'll probably just stick to what's worked so far; generating controversy.

You forgot to mention that Donald Glover basically dedicated "Awaken, My Love!" to his newborn son. He wanted to someday show his kid the music he grew up listening to, that's why he pulled direct influences from those reference you mentioned. The tracks' lyrical themes also reflect it.

Check out his song centipede, or his cover of "what kinda love" He's always been able to sing, but this is a bit more experimental with his voice. I've know a lot of people who either thing it's pitched, or even don't think or recognize that's him singing.

Man, I don't listen to the radio or hip hop, and I had no idea that stand-up comedian Donald Glover had a hip hop persona called Childish Gambino, but I'll never forget being in this dudes car that I was doing a job for and hearing this come on the radio. I was like, "What the Hell, this station was just playing rap a second ago, and now they're playing some awesome song from the 70's... How have I never heard this before?" I'm a huge music lover, and listen to all genres, from classical, to soul to metal, so I didn't understand how I'd missed this awesome song. When he got back in the car from pumping gas, he was surprised to see me bopping my head to this. "You like that?" He said with a smirk. "Yeah man, this is awesome. Who is it?" "That's Childish Gambino, Redbone. You've never heard that before?" "Nah man, don't know how I missed it..." >Mfw I went home and Googled Childish Gambino and found out it was that nerdy comic I liked. >Mfw I can't post my face in the KZfaq comments section. >Mfw I have no face

Great Video, as always! Luv the way you nailed the funky influences for the song. Another one i noticed was in his vocals. His falsetto sounds an awful lot like Prince (circa 1982)

I think this song has such a unique sound that makes it able to remix and mashup with other songs better than anything else.

I always assumed it was because it had the most lyrics out of any song on Awaken My Love, and when Awaken My Love came out people were complaining that it “wasn’t lyrical enough” and they wanted another hip-hop album

I always just thought he sampled an old 70s funk beat but then upon researching the song, it was pretty much an original beat and I was shocked. Definitely puts you in a different era.

I think, besides all the essay, the major reason for such a success is because the song sounds amazingly good.

Played it my junior year when it first was released. All my friends clowned me when they first heard it and then a year later they are all singing it after it hits the radio.

When this came out, I heard it on the radio. If you had asked me to guess 1 million times in a row who performed it I would have never ever guessed it was Troy. I don't normally like rap and hip hop style music but I LOVE this damn song.

"Have some love" is one of my fav Childish Gambino song. Like "i'd rather be with you" I realized the breakdown in "Have some love" sounds heavily like the pinball intro from Sesame street. Made me like the song even more. :)

I can't listen to this song without thinking of Atlanta's "Juneteenth" and "Teddy Perkins". This album came out between those two episodes and I feel a lot of Glover's themes are also exemplified in the show.
