what nobody remarks here is that the unicorn is wounded. wounds from the capture.

Perhaps the realism of the flowers was thought necessary because people of the time were more intimately connected to the plant life around them.

I think the perspective gives a lot of clues. The way i see it the unicorn is being viewed by the owner from a 2nd story window as a captured prize. I see it almost as a picture in a locket worn around the neck. All the hassle of the hunt for this...

Hmm... Seed and blood from the pomogranate, what can be more obvious... The chain and round fence look to me like the umbilical code and its womb. It is a baby unicorn perhaps?

Looks like their are small bite marks with small droplets of blood, maybe it represents stolen purity in captivity...unpure beings stealing the magical life force of the unicorn

Happily, we've gotten better about that. This is an old video, we did do too much interrupting early on-too much excitement and impatience. Recently, we've made some progress in remaking older videos and so you should hear less and less interrupting. Thanks for being in touch.

Now hear me out, long shot i know, but what if..... the artist just wanted to make a unicorn and that's it
@smarthistory-art-history

That might make some sense in the 20th or 21st centuries but it makes less sense in the late 15th century. Think about the extravagant cost of producing such a finely crafted tapestry. In addition, this textile would have required a workshop of highly skilled people, so the idea of a single artist doesn't really work here.

I enjoy the whimsy of this, but the unicorn's face weirds me out a little... human-like eyes, massive nostril, decidedly flat mouth.. Idk. I do like the whispy details of his hair, though. The two traditions are one in the same: Christ is the bridgegroom of the church who willingly allowed himself to be "captured." This is one of the more interesting ways of portraying the narrative.

So all paintings in the world should only be of real things? Why do you dream things that don't exist? Thank god not everyone in the world thinks like you.
