It's been 27 years since I left the Corps. To this day, I wake up and wonder whether I made the right decision leaving. I never thought I'd ever miss the Corps or the camaraderie as much as I do. As I was told in boot camp, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine". My DI was right.

As First Nations myself, my grandfather told me that the Japanese did try to learn the numerous types of indigenous dialects prior to the start of the war. Some were easy to gain access to and others such as the Navajo were nearly impossible unless fully trusted by the individual clan. The Japanese were to rigid to learn Navajo as the Japanese were use to a written language. Awesome video

As a Marine, I'm happy to see these video's but the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce Teufel Hunden, Mount Suribachi and really needs to stop referring to Marines as Soldiers. To a Marine, being referred to as a Soldier is an insult as it would be in any branch except the Army. The Army has Soldiers, the Navy has Sailors, the Air Force has Airmen, the Coast Guard has Coasties but for the Marine Corps, we are referred to as Marines. We are the Corps and the Corps is every Marine past present and future.

I find it interesting that the thought of dissolving the U.S.M.C has actu6bern considered on more than one occasion. An organization with the history and flexibility of the U.S.M.C you would expect to be the last to go. If anything you should want the other branches to operate as effectively as the U.S.M.C., not the other way around.
@stephenbreen7570

Politicians looking to shift funding to things that can line their pockets. The USMC makes an easy target due to it being a combination of all the other branches that already exists. But the thing that the other branches can't duplicate. Is the 24hr response time and small unit effectiveness that the Marines bring to an enemies door step. Outside of the Marines, our government's only option is to use Special Forces units. And those are not meant to take, set up a command base and defend for long periods of time. Unfortunately the Marine Corps is starting to fall to liberal pressure and put mission effectiveness 2nd and social ideology 1st. Hopefully the Corps can get back on track and rid itself of this before it's to late.

Love this history. And, that you started with My Rifle a Creed of a United States Marine. Our grandfather, Maj. Gen. Rupertus, was an expert rifleman. As a young officer he competed on the USMC Rifle Team. And, was later a rifle & pistol instructor. He served in WWI on the USS Florida. Then in Haiti, China, Pacific theater. He wrote this after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, etc. on December 7, 1941, which catapulted us into WWII. At the time he was CO of Marine Barracks in San Diego. I love this creed. Especially knowing the history. He had seen the Japanese in action earlier while on duty in China during the Battle of Shanghai. Marines stood guard along the perimeter of the American sector of the Shanghai International Settlement with war before their eyes, but were told to hold their fire. And they did. Unbelievable patience. When the Japanese attacked the US at Pearl Harbor, I think our grandfather had enough of holding back. This is My Rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine…. Our grandfather was a Marine. Our dad was a Marine. And another son may be on its way. Thankful for our United States Marines. 🇺🇸

Do any of you honestly think the USA can produce an "elite" force with only 13 weeks of training? The recruits are shouted at non-stop, and then after 13 weeks they are told they are the greatest fighting force in the world, sadly the recruits believe it. There are 177,000 US Marines, (16,000 of whom are women) which is more personnel than the British military combined, Army, Navy, Royal Air Force and Gurkhas. BTW, it takes 32 weeks to train a Royal Marine and there are 5,800 of them.

Sadly the here is some poorly told history regarding WW1. German never said “devil dogs” (that’s fake history) Battle of Bellou Woods wasn’t a significant battle (the Germans certainly didn’t think so) Pershing was upset bc the US Army had taken 98% of all the casualties in WW1 but the French gave him a statue of a Marine (If I was a Soldier then I’d be pissed too) Now someone’s going to be pissed I said all that but I’m the real history of the Corps is much more compelling and full of sacrifice. You don’t need to make anything up. You don’t need to put sparkles on a diamond.

I couldn't agree more, absolutely correct. For me it's kinda sad that many of them haven't ever studied up on what's real & what isn't. There is so much rich history & yet many seem fixated on Belleau Wood & the devil dog nonsense. Thank you for the comment I'm glad someone finally said it because it needed to be said.

Don't need to talk about the Marine Tank Corps. It's gone. The New Commandant does not believe in Mechanized warfare....Tanks and armored carriers are a thing of the past. Marines get to walk into battle.....Old school stuff.
