Quick reminder what this is all about: the UNKNOWN race is a non profit ultra cycling race, organized by avid ultracyclists. The starting fee was used to cover the costs for organizing the race. On top of that every participant put 50€ "into a pot" that would later go to a charity.
The checkpoints of the race were "unknown" and only given on the go, first checpoint location one hour before the start. First person to be back in Lyon who has been to every checkpoint got to decide which charity will receive the donation pot.

"We wanted something different, where pre-race preparations are not the key of the race. We designed this event as riders for riders. A challenge which shares the benefits to someone else than the organization. Don’t take it as a race but enjoy the event, meet other riders and have lots of fun.
The first finisher will choose the charity that will receive the money.
The race starts and ends at the same point in Lyon."
