Thank you Chadi! The front of the belt grip is also really good for setting up double leg takedowns. It makes it very difficult for your opponent to sprawl on you.

Sambo is only "unorthodox" when viewed through the prism of Judo regulations because they're so incredibly restrictive...people that grew up doing Judo don't notice however if you try to introduce someone to the sport it becomes clear that IJF style Judo has ran down a rabbit hole of complexity

The throw at 5:46 (front headlock suplex kinda) i learned at Greco Roman wrestling. Its one of the basix throws of Greco along with the arm spin, shouoder throw to the knees and the hip throw variations

the tawara-gaeshi with arms around the neck and armpit is illegal in competitive judo sadly, i saw someone last tournament get disqualified for that exact reason even though he did it unintentionally

Sambo was created by Oshchepkov who studied with Jigiro Kano at Kodokan! Techniques from the national wrestling styles of the USSR have been added to sambo, but this has not caused any major changes in sambo :) And there is no culture in Sambo except the culture of Russian corruption :)

Oschepkov added nothing - he was judo balck belt and eastalished exacly Judo in Russia. It was named "freestyle wrestling -Judo" in its begining. During the time competitors may added some techniques from national wrestling styles and added own grips etc. I heard only about georgian grip - which is today exists in judo too -calling Gadavli. Later they deleted old name which included Judo and maked new name sambo - also added new discipline Freestyle wrestling which people called "Sambo without Gi" back then because most of wrestlers were sambo/judo practitioners. Also after WW2 they didnt wanted to be associated with enemy - Japan but Sambo is Judo almost 99% which developed without Olimpic rulecuts. Also the fact that many freestyle wrestlers competed as sambo wrestlers also - maked they looks more similar in many ways but it was healthy development . If you watch today former soviet freestyle wrestling have many sambo techniques and unique style

Chadi the last technique I know as a high dive. It is a technique in many other styles and requires the same foundational principals as other techniques. Fast twitch muscle fibers, plyometrics, sprints ext. Unfortunately the technique only works a few times before others are Zanshin of it. The effective range of the technique diminishes in IJF rule set. If "it," is combat sambo because allowing striking the technique works more often as some times striking opens up opportunity's for Koshi waza's and Naga Waza's. If leg grabs are allowed the counter for Koshi Waza's will diminish. Still after a conceptual level is understood through foundational wazas then and only then We can apply Koshi waza's similar to Tsukkomi Goshi, Uki Goshi, and Koshi Gurmuma. The foundational waza will give light to the Zanshin. If there is no waza there is no Zanshin.
