Today I am in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to show the location where rhythm and blues singer John Whitehead was murdered. He was half of the singing group McFadden and Whitehead who wrote music for several different groups and have their own smash hit "Ain't No Stopping Us Now."

@@mombradshaw5528 - In black cemeteries like this three things are typical: * They were only allowed to purchase so much land, so limited space. * They usually just sold one plot at a time. * They usually didn't sell prepaid services. So other relatives will have to find plots somewhere else. I have one relative in a cemetery like this by himself. But he wasn't married. Or had kids, that anyone knows of.

Yes he gave a tremendous amount of great music. He might not have thought about dying most people don't. But you want to prepare your funeral because you never know when that day will come you purchase your own tombstone you put it in the cemetery if you can or get you a life insurance policy and leave it to the funeral home or somebody you can trust but you have to prepare your funeral because you will end up like that it's famous at that man was he in the cemetery and his tombstone if Lamont hadn't pointed out I never would have known it a lot of people don't want to spend money on a funeral they'll spend six or $800 and get you cremated and throw your ashes in the dumpster and pocket the rest of the money. I have no one I can trust but God so that's what I did went to a funeral home and did everything myself

@@sharonhaywood2818 omg Sharon. You and I are almost the same. Im Divorced 10 years. No kids. But loving and trusted nieces n nephew. I have my fund set aside for the day. But you're right I need make the arrangements myself. I been there it's a painful time making arrangements. As far as Mr Whitehead. Maybe he was cheated of his royalties. I wish Performers who came after pooled a little of their fortunes and redo his headstone for starters. Such a talent.
@sharonhaywood2818
@sharonhaywood2818 Жыл бұрын
@@waitforit5146 you know most of the performers back during that time was cheated out of their royalties even Elvis Presley my Dad loved him and I'm African-American he was the leader of his empire but his promoter the colonel was nothing but a fat crook look what happened to Mike Tyson with Don King Don King was nothing but a crook. And a lot of people do not know how to prepare funerals I did my mom and dad so it's a cakewalk to me I'm thinking about taking my policy to a funeral home that excuse me owns that live in a small country town and sign the policy over to him and whatever's left over he can put it toward his funeral home business I trust him before I trust my three siblings. Because if you have a $50,000 policy you can leave that to your siblings and they will cremate you for $600 and put the rest of the money in their pocket and throw your ashes off the freeway underneath the bridge or something so that's why I said I'll take care of my funeral myself. And all these black performers and athletes come on now it's enough for them in this world for them to give at least 2 to $500 a piece if they all pull together it's really sad I don't like that and I'm sure the majority of them have listened to this man's music like the last living member of The temptations I couldn't do that if I was a millionaire a billionaire I would never let this man go out like that. My daddy's mother is buried on some property that used to blown in our family and I'm working on now getting a documentation and trying to make arrangements to get them off those people property and put in our family Cemetery why she was buried outside the cemetery I have no idea everybody that could have told us anything is now dead because I know if I don't do it at age 65 when I leave here nobody's going to care about where she's at to be honest one of my oldest sisters found her body with a grave locator and she died in the 1940s and nobody thought about moving her body you know back then they didn't have laws they can go out there and dig up 10 years later and pack up down to the cemetery nobody said anything besides doing that time who would care about anybody digging up anybody else that's black nobody so I'm trying to get her body moved now to our family Cemetery.

I totally agree. I love that song and always wondered what really happened, all these years thought was a drug situation. I am so disgusted with our folks because with all the information, access to history etc., our brains are still dead to what we should be doing, no commitment to our ancestors & everyone who led, fought & died to lay the foundation for us! No self respect, don't care about the pain & suffering they perpetrate ! It really angers me how many don't value life! So many gifted among us come from cities, towns, etc. created to destroy us as a people, but miraculously still excel through it all to bring us greatness; only to be murdered & cut down in the streets without mercy by parasites in our community who have no purpose in life. Where are all our R&B artist, community leaders, etc to ensure our rich legacies are remembered & memorialized forever! Actually, we really lost our dignity because this type of situation is nothing new, I found out by chance off similar platform, one of the Brothers Johnson died!!!!! Thank you for bringing this to lite

OK, the word on the street is that John (Toots) Whitehead was not the intended target. It was the person who was with John. It was also disclosed it was an argument about money. The gunmen were shooting down the alley way behind John's house and John was shot in the neck only to die in his wife's arms while waiting for the EMT's to arrive. I knew John from when they were the Epsilons singing at the Uptown Theater in Philly. He was one of the nicest people that you wanted to meet. He had an infectious smile. That structure in the cemetery seem like the city should try to do some repairs on it and all those empty spaces in that Cemetery I'd be willing to bet their bodies there because once you going to ground people don't care anymore majority people don't even go back. Thanks Lamont you're awesome

WOW Lamont you aren't lying about music of today. The lyrics have no NO ROMANCE in them at all! I was talking to my daughter about this very thing the other day we were in the car and Baby Bash came on with his song I'm Back Let Me Hit It 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣 like I was snapping my fingers to it but I told her listen to what he's saying you'd never catch the Temptations singing this🤣🤣🤣 This story was so heartbreaking Lamont thank you for doing a Vlog on it!!!!

Thank you Lamont, for this sad but informative obituary. R.I.P. JW I ❤your songs & still play them. Luther V. Cover of Ain’t no stopping us now was just beautiful..! Such an inspiring song!💫🙏🏼🌹🕊🎤🎼❤️

Lamont, I agree with you brother about the music not being the same at all. Almost the majority of artist cannot play an instrument or sing without computer assistance but, this is supposed to be a new era and generation of people and they feel that it's their time in music but they forget one thing, The music we grew up on will be remembered for the melody and sound and the way it makes you feel. The majority of music today, especially the garbage rap that's out there will barely be remembered.. Definitely won't be called classic R&B and hip hop. That being said, RIP to John Whitehead of McFadden & Whitehead.

The most tragic thing about "music" today, is they get tens of millions of dollars and cannot play any instruments and don't sing. It's all about posturing, while the real talent like Whitehead, who was a singer song writer lived in deprived areas. Sad RIP WHITEHEAD, what a senseless death

Lamont, in your videos I keep hearing you mention about local people who volunteer their time and resources taking care of forgotten cemetaries. I was unaware that so many cemetaries are maintained by everyday-people out of the goodness of their heart. I would like to support that and do my part as well. I should probably start by finding out where some of my late relatives are buried...But, in your travels, if you could, let us know if there are any groups or organizations of locals, any people who maintain local cemetaries that you know could really use some support, with their permission, of course. Btw, I do know of a cemetary that I dont believe is used any more not too far from my town. My mom showed it to me when she showed me where she grew up. I remember that it was derelict, with headstones visible in the tall grass, when I last visited more than 10 yrs ago. It's been so long I dont know if it is still there but I am definitely curious now.😊

Talking about good music, not the crap they play today, I thought about Luther Vandross. He had a voice like velvet. I can hear him singing "The Power of Love". Now that was music. Luther is another voice, like John, we lost way to soon. It makes me sad to see our Cemeteries is such disarray. Whoever would have thought we would stop caring for our dead. Sometimes you think those that are there are the lucky ones to be home in heaven. Keep up the good work Lamont. Bless You.
