The pugilist world is ruled by the powerful Wen clan, which dominates over the smaller Lan, Jiang, Nie and Jin households. The carefree Wei Wuxian becomes fast friends with the righteous Lan Wangji, and during their adventures, the pair find out that the head of the Wen clan is the evil mastermind behind a series of plots that would wreak havoc upon the lands.
Wei Wuxian’s attempts to protect the innocent members of the Wen clan from unfair persecution leads to disaster, and he goes MIA in the process. Wei Wuxian reappears sixteen years later, and works together with good friend Lan Wangji to solve a series of murder mysteries, eventually finding and defeating the true culprit. Based on the Moxiang Tongxiu's novel Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation.

I appreciate the effort Xiao Zhan put into Wei Wuxian, he's truly one of the biggest reasons why that character came out as well as it did. Wei Wuxian doesn't look easy to portray and I'm so glad that they casted Xiao Zhan for it.

Even though I read the novel, I still felt that what he did was better in some aspects than the real Wei Wuxian

The moments he cried made it perfect, if WWX wouldn't cry in those moments it would make him seem cold and he is not a cold character. Xiao Zhan's acting was amazing and I think he showed the three different stages of WWX really well (the cute young WWX who always had fun and showed his bright smile to everyone; the WWX who had lost and sacrificed everything, was hated and feared by everyone for protecting innocent people who had helped him; and the WWX who came back and wanted to avoid the people from his past, realised that being with LWJ and knowing that he has a person that would stay with him, would protect him and would face hardships with him is making him happy, even though he is often reminded of his past that is still hurting him) So I as a viewer and a fan of the Novel have to say that Xiao Zhan did a perfect job, but if he himself says that he could've done better I think that is ok I still hope that he'll get the chance to show it (hopefully they will recored extra episodes like the extra chapters in the novel, I would love to see the chapters with the Hook Hand) ❤️☺️

I agree, Xiao Zhan did such an amazing job and really brought Wei WuXian to life. His chemistry with all the actors of the other major characters (Lan WanJi, Jiang Cheng, Jiang YanLi, Wen Ning, Wen Qing and Ah Yuan/Lan Yuan) really added depth to all the emotions that he portrayed on screen. I love the novel and I can't imagine a better Wei WuXian.

Kim did you know some tear scenes he asked to put them in himself because ALL Untamed characters have directed their own scenes a little bit and could ask the director for changes or redos and XZ wanted to do a cry scene because he really felt the pain of WWX so he said if I were him I would cry

The way xiao zhan portrayed wei wuxian is marvelous. I think even if there will be a recreates second version of the untamed xiao zhan will always be the wei Ying. And of course Wang yibo as lan zhan.

I once imagine, what if one day they make a new version of The Untamed. With such a popularity, a remake in the future is not totally impossible, right? Idk if my heart can ever accepts it, if that ever happens. Xiao Zhan is the only Weiying for me. Likewise, Yibo is the only one made for the role of Lan Zhan.

The reason why the viewers relate and hooked by the character of wei wuxian is b'cpz the actor itself (xiao zhan) really do understand his character. That's the very important pillar for the artist to portray the character well. He need to understand what's the real personality pf the character he'll be portraying.I love you xiao zhan you really did a great job!

i never expected much from the drama, i have always felt that live adaptations of good novels end up becoming a disgrace for the novel, however, the untamed was so nicely done that it has completely changed my mind. the superb cast was the main factor for this. xiao zhan being casted as wwx was probably the best choice ever. he has done a great job at portraying wwx. this wwx is exactly what I'd imagined wwx to be like. especially while portraying the three different periods in wwx's life, i could actually feel the difference there. xiao zhan has brought my wwx alive and i couldn't be more thankful to him. idk what kind of comments he's been reading, but i hope all the nice comments under this video reach him too. he deserves all the love and praise he can get ❤

as someone who read the novels, i dont think anybody could ever top xiao xhan's interpretation of wei wuxian. he said that he overdid some of the scenes but honestly, i think he overdid it in a good way. you can literally feel his emotions especially those scenes with YanLi. you cant help but cry when you see him cry, and you cant help but smile when you see him smile.

what a lovely and humble person Xiao Zhan is! from the interview, he seems still quite unaware of his awesome natural acting talent that we all saw in untamed. he thinks he overacted when in actual fact he totally became WWX/WeiYing. that's what captivated the fans actually, that both he and Wang Yibo were so amazingly in character. what charmed the hearts out of many of us is not just their dropdead goodlooks and positively illegal smiles, but their empathy of the complex characters they played and the chemistry between them! :)

We could not have gotten a better actor than Xiao Zhan for Wei WuXian. He feels so much, he understands so much. He really put everything in him in his character. He let himself feel everything Wei WuXian felt, and _more._ I know he feels like he should have toned down his emotions a little because while Wei WuXian is very sincere with his feelings, he does not like to express it openly a lot, but I think Xiao Zhan's understanding of his character, and his own emotions towards Wei WuXian, together, made the character a lot more real. I cannot ask for more. He is perfect.

He's so strict with himself and looking at his later works, he does improve by leaps and bounds. But it doesn't change that he was fantastic as Wei Wuxian and made all of us fall in love with him, so there is no need to improve anything. Always looking forward to Xiao Zhan's future works~

I don't think he over-did it at all..that is the point..the young Wei is just... too much :DD but then life ...and reality hits...and he changes... and ends up as a real adult taking bits of Lan Wang Ji's focus and "think before you speak and act" :DDD

Exactly, I rewatched just to see where he over did it, and I didn't see, may be because am biased but I understand where he is coming from. I read somewhere that during the airing of the first few episodes there were critics in China saying he is overdoing and too feminine but look at God the drama did very well and we are proud of him and all the cast. Of course you can't please everyone, even Disney with all the money they invest in movies there is always people complaining.

You played such n amazing character that literally taught me that no matter how much trashes life throws on u, nevertheless, always Smile. Smile with tears in ur eyes. You just don't know Xiao Zhan that whenever you smile, we smile. Whenever you cry, we cry because of the you portray Wei Wuxian is more than amazing. Its exceptional. I read the novel first before watching the Untamed series, and I can say as a fan of MDZS, you did amazing job to portray the difficult emotions of Wei Ying. Like a lot of flashbacks and scenes, you did splendid job to portray every thing about Wei Ying

Xioa Zhan is the most honest person I ever know... he speaks from heart and care about others .. and while he was talking about how he try to understand the WW character... I don't think WW character shines this much if XZ didn't do this...And Honey never think you overdo the things ..it's perfect in every way and I first fell in love with WW and after then with XZ....so WW character is really special to me .. my baby Zhan did a great job and I'm super proud of him ...

Xiao Zhan gege's personality is exemplary and humble as hell. Just the perfect actor to portray Wei Wuxian and ofcourse perfect partner for Lan Zhan (Wang yibo). They just compliment each other. Been inlove with the cast since Day1 and still re-watching the series nth time. 😍

Xiao Zhan is truly incredible in protraying the role of Wei WuXian. I have to shamely admit that I was one of those few people that felt like his acting was a little bit too much from the beginning and it was only because I didn't know how Wei WuXian is as a character, I then proceeded to see how the Donghua version of this drama portray Wei WuXian and immediately changed my mind and fell in love with him/his acting. Just like he said, yes his acting still has flaws. Yet, despite all those flaws, he is the Wei WuXian in the novel. He also has the ability to made the viewers feel his pain, his happiness...ect. He made the Character feel alive and that he is the perfect actor for Wei WuXain. As far as I know, Wei WuXian is not an easy role to portray and I have so much respect for him. I believe him When He said he could do better if he were given a chance now, but he I know he did his best and he definitely is the best actor in this drama.

Xiao Zhan was truly the most perfect Wei Wuxian I could ask for, paired with the amazing voice acting skills of the Mo Dao Zu Shi audio drama. The fact that Xiao Zhan understood his character so well, to the point of even writing essays about him, really shows how well-cast everyone was in the drama. Thank you Chen Qing Ling for giving us such an awesome, faithful adaptation that also was unique in its own way! ♥️ You’ve made the summers of many fans more memorable with this drama. ;w;

I think he did a fantastic job. He portrayed Wei really well and the character development was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for a better actor. Plus, his smile is cheeky and infectious - he made us feel what Wei was feeling at all times. I truly think that Xiao Zhan was the perfect actor to play Wei Wu Xian I'm watching the other version (anime/manga) and reading the novel now and I can truly say that he did amazing!! He can be proud of himself but also having this kind of reflection about his acting (like saying that for him he could have do better) is really good bc he knows that he can still improve, that now he did great but he can do better next time and that's great bc it help him to always evolve, it give him a goal

I'm happy that Xiao Zhan really got to understand Wei Ying's character and portrayed him so well. He was expressive, charming and absolutely adorable as the character. I wasn't sure when I started, but the more I watched, the more I saw what a great job he's doing. Now I can't think of anyone else as Wei Ying, because he won me over and left such a strong impression on me.

I never felt so much for a character in a drama. I was so sad and omg si heartbroken when nobody cared for the truth about wwx. I mean how can a person be so kind hearted and so deeply misunderstood?! I literally cried for him when he didn't even complained.. Xiao Zhan portrayed him sooooo good! U got another fan here! reading the comments here is so nice because you can really see the impression this actor has left on so many people in his portrayal of wei ying. it’s been a really long time since i’ve fallen so deeply in love with a character and a story, and falling for MDZS reminds me so much of my younger years. xiao zhan could not have been a more perfect choice, i’m so happy he was able to shine in this role and come into my line of sight.

OMG Xiao Zhan. I never comment on KZfaq. But watching this interview, I just came here to say: You gave us the perfect Wei Wuxian and that's something I'll forever be grateful for. Omg! He played it the best anyone ever could. I am glaf he over did it coz it was supposed to be like this. I am so proud of Xiao Zhan for giving us the gift of the amazing Wei Ying. OK xiao you are such a good character and thanks that you understand that every thing has 2 side even when some thing seems perfect and pretty good still there will be one who may disagree with it. Keep the strangle. Believe you can do it amazingly well and besides, all people cannot love you or what you do but know that many people love you and like what you do. watching him remember the painful parts makes me remember the remember them too and made me cry... no wonder they have felt the depth of the pain of their character and transmitted it to us... oh no i am crying again... i have rewatched the untamed many times already and i still can't get over them... hope xiao zhan and wang yibo will collaborate in another project soon... i miss them so much...

He portrayed the diff sides of Wei Ying so well and also kept it diff from Yibos character too. I loved his relationship with his older sis- it was so endearing. Even with his brother - you could tell they fought but they loved each other a lot. Everyone did such a good job in that production !

U can see how serious and dedicated he is as an actor. Xiao zhan u did an amazing job as wei wuxian. The way how u portrayed the character is superb and i got hooked on the drama bcos of wwx. Ofcourse i love the characters and the story. But i especially like wwx and u made the character come alive. I love u xiao zhan. I hope to see u more on dramas and movies.

Just the way he talks about his acting and about Wei WuXian tells that he's an amazing actor! Had an actor less talented than Xiao Zhan played Wei WuXian, that character would have easily come across as a joke rather than the magnificent, complex figure that he is. 💖

Xiao Zhan did such an amazing job portraying WWX, that now literally everything I read relating to the untamed/MDZS (novel, fanfics) I instantly picture Xiao Zhan and only him as WWX. Same goes for Wang Yibo. These 2 were perfectly casted for their roles, and will be irreplaceable in my eyes, heart and mind. To be honest the whole cast was great, but the main leads were exceptional. Their chemistry on screen and off screen were great to watch, and every time I watch their BTS together, I can't help but smile like a fool!
