This is the Metallica I will always remember since I first saw them live back in 1992. It still sucks that Jason left, but it also saved Metallica (once again) in a weird way...

..at first, i wasn't much on to him.....but over the time, he became one of my fav basists. I sometimes wonder how it would've sounded had they not turned down the bass vol in AJFA album. I'm sure it would've added more magical sound to the album given the fact how his bass 🎸 sounds in Black & those following albums he was in. Nothing less than great, that's it, folks🤘👍..

Jason was in the band to help Metallica and when he wanted to be taken more seriously. Its almost like they still expected him to just stay as the guy who would only do what he was told and help out when needed. But Jason was way more than that. He was a song writter and even a lyricist. He wrote songs before in his previous band. It would have been cool to see more of Jasons ideas in Metallica songs

It's really a shame that they treated him that way. I am a lifelong fan of the band and IMHO if he hadn't been there with that energy they may have not turned out to be the mega band that they are today because the grief would have consumed them. At least Lars, James, and Kirk have seen the error in their ways and have reached out to Jason to try and make things right. As always Jason being who he is has been a really good example as to why it's good to forgive and forget.

I just wish he has no regrets because honestly soeaking his time with tallika aka MACH 2 will live on forever long after we all shadows and dust. Future generations 2040 AD onwards will always look at Metallica as a whole AFTER they have retired. Just mark my words. JN should know his time in the band is and was forever immortal ❤😂😅

Absolutely. Jason was Metallica live and in the flesh. It's too bad they didn't let him guide the music a little bit to match his energy. It was the greatest waste of talent I've ever seen.

I've admired Rob since his Suicidal Tendencies days starting in 1991, so I mean absolutely no disrespect to him, but I cannot look at him as _Metallica's_ bassist. He is a hired hand. I feel bad for saying that, but it's the sad truth. He joined _long_ after they became legends, so it's unfair to Rob in that way to ever criticize him without showing him the proper respect he deserves. It's just that I've been a fan of the band since early 1987. Both Cliff and Jason are who inspired me to pick up the bass. Metallica with Jason is all I knew. I still feel that way. Anyone who wasn't listening to them when Jason was there or came along later after the turn of the century would probably have a harder time understanding how important Jason was to us older fans of the band. His stage presence, energy, just an electrifying ball of energy helped give Metallica their reputation as a live band you _have_ to see. Also, wow are Jason's backing vocals so missed by myself and so many others. Certain songs just sound empty where Jason once filled in the vocal parts. Maybe one day as the band, especially James being the vocalist, get closer to their 70s they''ll realize how much better and stronger they would be in concert by bringing Jason back. They already knew something wasn't quite right with Rob's backing vocals - they made him take vocal lessons and it still didn't help. Jason just does it naturally. He has that ability in spades. As for Rob, here is my show of respect for him: I've felt like his talent has been wasted his entire last 20 years in Metallica. His true style (funk) and his amazing chops on bass don't even come close to shining through on a Metallica album. That is a compliment and a testament to Rob's legendary status as one of the finest hard rock, heavy metal, _funk_ bass players of all time. They just really need Jason back. That's all.

About Rob, he's totally a hired gun. The worst part of all, for us who knew Rob from Suicidal and Infectious Grooves, his abilities are completely wasted on Metallica. But I don't blame the band though; they are at that stage when the aging rockstars just want to play it safe, do what is expected, and keep that legacy money coming. Rob is the one that looks like a total sellout in this.

@kirkcruz9721 Same. He was so important to the band. More than they realized probably until they started touring again in 2003 or '04. It's the live shows where they suffer severely. His vocal abilities, not just backing vocals, but his ability to take over lead vocal duties, giving James a well deserved rest, are sorely missed. Maybe one day they'll realize they need his all-around talent and energy back? I pray for that day. I am a fan of Rob's ST, Infectious Grooves and Ozzy and I mean absolutely no disrespect to him. But Metallica first with Cliff and then with Jason was what made them my #2 all-time favorite band and why I became a musician. It's been awkward the last 20 years. That's really the only way I can describe it.

I've noticed that in reference to the bus incident the band never mentions the crane portion of the story... it's always a non band member that talks about the crane picking up the bus and dropping it back on Clif. Perhaps it's because it's too gruesome or I don't know. The band typicallys says that Cliff died instantly, but maybe that's the conforting story they want to believe? I don't know?

Sure but AC/DC maybe handled his death better because they where a little older and more mature? Metallica was 22-23, AC/DC at least 25-27. I think a lot changes these years, just look at James in 1985 compared to 1988... Only 3 years but he look much older and a sound lot more mature in late 80s, when he was at the same age as AC/DC members. Anyway they all regret it and wish they handled it better, but people change. And Jason himself say that he respect James even today. There is no feud between them today. It hasnt been in 20+ years.
