You are simplifying something that is neither correct nor accurate. The Brunei Sultanate was neither a "hamlet" nor "village." I suggest you refrain from comparing it to Malaya. Brunei had been an empire well before any Malay kingdom existed and had ruled over Borneo as well for a period of time. It was however weak by the end of the 1800s for many reasons, most likely due to Dutch trade policies which hampered its ability to trade and to be a thriving port river city it once was before the Europeans arrived. You need to have a better understanding of Borneo history before commenting.

The Philippine government couldn''t give a hoot about the so-called Sultanate's claims. To the governmnet of Philippines, all Sultanates Muslim or otherwise do not exist anymore ever since they declared their independance. They (the Sultanates) are as real as the Sultanates in Kalimantan, Sumatra and Java - all non existent and without sovereignty. Their claims are as good as any other citizen's claim to Sabah, Kalimantan or any other piece of land out side their territory.
