Actually, Madden 09 was the first Madden in the 360/PS3 era to use tv commentators at all, with Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth, after using the "radio" format for 06-08.

The Collectors edition also came with NFL Head Coach 09. Spent $100 new on it back in the day for the 2 games.

My favorite era of Madden was Madden 10 to Madden 12. When I got Madden 13 i knew right away that something was wrong lol

Those weird fantasy-style football fields remind me of when the Madden games on the PS1 would include completely made up fantastical teams like a team of robots and their field being solid metal and stuff like that. Honestly, I really miss those days because it seemed like back then, Madden was actually trying. A shame they stopped including them once they jumped to the PS2, Gamecube, and XBox

09 wasn't a good game, make no bones about it, but it was so much better than what we have today. SD hit it on the head when he said they made it with passion, because they did. There was clear commitment to the end product in mind. It was so well polished for its time and it was optimized perfectly for the consoles it was played on. That's not something you can say about the new Maddens, with glitches out the wazzau, and loading times that would make even the sanest man insane.

Thank you for mentioning the madden community from back then. I know you said you were like 9 but Gideon Prime, Versuz, Hard8Times, BarneyPhife, Ronenic, Brozales, Apex, SimFBallCritic and so many more were expressing how much we needed a Sim Football game and its so dissappointing how the game has gotten even worse from that period. But that era of youtubers were pioneers and I appreciate them any time i watch a madden vid. Thank you SDTV for respecting the past while being a trailblazer yourself in this communinty.

I haven't kept up with Madden at all (last Madden I played with any regularity was Madden 10 a LONG time ago), but Madden 09 was my 2nd ever Madden. I was 12 and just getting into football, and this game wowed me after 08. Everything felt so fun with this game and the visual aesthetic went crazy. I never knew people considered it mid, but then again, I was 12 and probably wouldn't have cared anyway, lol.

Too soon, I know. 2:57 Those are the Tridents IIRC. Tight End Gary Ladiator was unstoppable. On defense they had End Tzu Nami. He didn't get home often, but when he did, it was with great force.

I remember being so hyped for Madden 2009 when I was 11 because my favorite team was the GreenBay Packers and that Brett favre was on the cover. I went with my dad to my local Hastings which was pretty much a book, comics, home video and video game rental store. Ended up getting a copy for my PlayStation 2 at the time because we hadnt gotten the ps3 yet. I just remember playing madden 09 and having alot of fun it was the last madden I can say I had a good time playing

Soundtrack, graphics and animations that being the tackling and broken tackles were really solid in this game.

I remember this Madden fondly because it's the Madden I was on when I first moved out my parents house to Columbus Ohio. I was still on the AV cords and this guy where I worked told me to get HDMI cords. This is still back when HD tvs were still relatively expensive. I remember buying HDMI cords and being blown away at the graphical upgrade 😂😂.

This is the game that forced me to go back to playing 2K5 with the editor. Then, it was into 2k8 with the editor, for years. I didn't end up buying another Madden until M20, which sucked. Haven't tried any of the newer Maddens yet. I feel like a big part of my life was crushed/stolen by EA. 😢

The YT algorithm has blessed me lately. Madden 09 was damn near brillant on the ps3, I still go back and play sometimes. It was so deep compared to now. Being able to replay moments needs to be back in Madden.

Madden 09 was the peak of Rocket Catching online. Those who know...know. The reason why Madden is an animation based game today is because EA had to find a way to nerf the rocket catch.

I still have the game somewhere for 360. I don't have a console, but i would love to make a franchise mode with the Lions (you know what i mean) or just improving the last season of Mike Holmgren with the Seahawks. The criticisms at the time were understandable, but compared with the current games, Madden 09 looks waaaay better now.

The ice field and jungle stadium are in the fantasy challenge mode in the ps2/xbox version of madden 08 (and maybe later ones but i don’t remember) would love to see a vid dedicated to this mode because I think its the best mode ever included in any madden

Madden ‘09 got some burn from my friends and I. The presentation felt like a huge leap, remembering playing the snow. Madden had its glitches, but this era was still beautiful and enjoyable on 360

I have so many memories with this Madden. The PS3 at the time was the next groundbreaking system in terms of graphics and getting to play this game for the first time back when I got my PS3 during Christmas Day in 2008 was simply breath-taking visual wise.

The fantasy teams and stadiums are actually in the PS2 version of the game, in the Fantasy Challenge mode. Pretty awesome feature that I miss to this day. You could also unlock and play with them in play now if you beat them in the tournament.

Dude, great video. I LONG for the days when Madden brought me all the excitement in the world. My friend gave me his copy of Madden 21 last year and I played 3 seasons of face of the franchise w/ the Jets. It was kinda fun but it lacked the atmosphere previous games had. I mean back then on superstar you could get drafted by ANYONE, that alone was a thrill. The franchise mode used to go so much harder, my favorite mode. EA really just settles for “good enough” every year now and people keep buying and buying. I miss looking at the in-depth stats they provided in old games. Now it’s bare bones in every single aspect - except for MUT of course. Last Madden I purchased was 15.

One other way you can tell they put some effort in back then: Madden 09 on the Wii was the first version in which they incorporated a 'Call your Shots' feature, where you could literally use the Wii remote to design custom routes for receivers before the snap. It was so satisfying to score touchdowns on plays you were literally creating on the fly! They even upped it a little with Madden 10 to allow you to customize defensive players as well, though I'm not as familiar with that as 09 is the last Madden I ever purchased/played regularly. Graphics weren't NEARLY as good as this, but that's not surprising for a Nintendo system. You might find it interesting.

This is one of my favorite madness. Madden 08 and Madden 09 on the PlayStation 3 I really like them. I know a lot of people don't like them but they were some of my favorite experiences how long was Madden 10

Nostalgia is very helpful with a lot of these games. I didn't jump ship to Madden on the PS3 until 2011 and boy, what a difference it was. You still had create a team, but it was severely nerfed and you couldn't make a whole league of teams with different enough logos. The draft classes had some spoof names like Tremendous Johnson, Rocket Mann, and Tremendous Kielbasa. One thing I LOVED about it though was Gus Johnson as the play by play man. His energy really helped you feel excited, while today's current retreads of the human sleeping aids, Gaudin and Davis. I know Madden 25 gets a lot of heat, but I think that was my favorite Madden on the PS3 because of the development system. I was in full control of how players developed. I didn't have to worry about random upgrades. You could even upgrade speed, agility, and acceleration as well as dev trait if you wanted to invest the high points cost. My go to though is still NFL Head Coach 09. That game does so many things right. If it had create a team and relocation, it would be a perfect game in my mind. I didn't need it to be playable. I like to see how my players do on the field without my input.

I remember this was the madden i had most fun with as a kid. It’s between this, 07 on the ps2 and 08 on the 360. My mom got me 09 on the 360 and i loved it but then got me a PS3, the family an HD tv and this on PS3 and it was the most impressive game i ever saw at that point graphically. Plus my Steelers won the Super Bowl that year so i played the game well after the Super Bowl too

Last game of this gameplays generation. 10 started to change this type of PS2 gameplay…some of the best times while I was in HS… ONLY knock I have on it and it’s a big one. The franchise freeze glitch. I can’t get past 2 seasons without it freezing and not letting me go forward

Madden 09 was actually my favorite on Xbox 360/ PS3! Exceptionally the Madden moments loved the Madden moments and it was actually really good to me. P.s I also liked 09,10,and 11 cuz of music and the Extra point when going through highlights and stats.

With you on this one.. I remember my brother, our friends, and I hanging out at somebody's house around when it came out and the graphics blowing me away. It had to have been the snow or the tutorial at the time. I'll swear by this game's soundtrack even as it continues to ring out the same five songs on the DS version lol. In the times that I've played it since (still have my 360 disc) it definitely is a bit wonky - camera has something to do with it. The rewind was a silly gimmick in reality. But I do like the vibe of it all, backdrop to commentary. And it is well worth going into all of the Franchise mode detail. I'm a few years older yet I was really only getting into the Eagles fully in '08-09 so I'm right there in the timeline. Awesome time to catch their playoff run with a really good roster in this era.

That blue square that shows up at 8:03 is actually a celebration prompt! You can use the joystick to run the ball carrier to the square, and then do a unique celebration (like dunk on the uprights). It was a sick feature!

Madden 08 and 09 always been my fav growing up

I never played this for the PS3, but I have it for the PS2 This is my second favorite Madden all time behind 07 for the PS2. When I think back on this game, the roster has me putting this right behind 07 but just ahead of 08 cause I liked SuperSim which made games quicker to play through if I just wanted to simulate through. Really solid game on the 2 that has aged wonderfully.

Madden 10 will always be my go-to Madden, and when i see your videos pointing out the validity to some of these older titles, i feel more justified in playing these games over newer ones, because obviously i get some crap not going to the newest like so many lol

I believe some of the concept art is similar to the fantasy challenge teams from Madden 08. You had to face the Dummies, the Glaciers, and the Tridents and the Glaciers were on an ice themed field. Those fields were sick and that challenge was fun and really hard. It was awesome!

Loved this game. “U Drive” was an unstoppable play. Loved being able to run around and awkwardly dunk on the goalposts after a TD. Also sorry for nitpicking but that was Madden 10 at 10:39. The nasty man Darren Sharper was not on the Saints until the 09 season.

09 is nostalgic for me, but for the psp lol, it meant so much to me that the playoff brackets were correct unlike the older madden of the time kept getting wrong. i even talked about this game on a long video years ago on a franchise i played all 30 years from 2015-2022

an underrated game for sure. the hall of fame players, the madden IQ and virtual john madden, the music, etc. that fantasy football feature would be AMAZING today with the popularity of fantasy football. it really was ahead of it's time. would LOVE to play with my fantasy football team in madden every year. something like a myteam feature and they would strike gold. remember, this madden was released before the microtransaction and MUT craze.

I had a thought at 11:03. What if the cover athlete had a pregame playlist that was included in the game's soundtrack as a way to hype the player up going into their games? Personally, I think they should go free-to-play with just "Madden" as the title and update each season with a new cover athlete. Then, you could just add that player's playlist to a growing catalog of songs that could also be broken up by genre and "added/removed" from each user's list of played songs so the user only has to listen to songs they choose.

I used to play this game back in late 2008-2009, though I played it for the 2009 NFL season. I played as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Football Cardinals in franchise mode and I added NFL Hall of Famers into most NFL teams (which I used to do when I played Madden NFL 08-10 on the Xbox 360). The game was okay, it was not as good as the earlier games (like Madden NFL 2002), but it was far, far better then the newer games (like Madden NFL 21). I do like the rivalry histories before the start of rivalry games. I still have this game since the end of 2008.

09 had all three of my favorite sports games. Madden, NCAAF, and NBA Live 09 are my favorite by favorite. I wasn’t a fan of the ps3 versions. But I absolutely loved the ps2 versions. Great games on my opinion
