Being the same age (same year) as Francis, I wouldn't be able to live without my mom. I cannot imagine having nobody to talk to or ask questions about. Just not asking or talking to my mom makes me realize how much I take her for granted.

We really need to stop putting a stigma on depression, it's a very serious thing to go through. I went through it myself, as has other family members. We need to show more compassion and love to our fellow men and woman.

Agree. Depression is a DISEASE. It's not about being selfish, or not caring about your children, or friends. It's not about pulling yourself up by your boot straps or shaking it off. Some mean comments regarding suicide shows the ignorance on the disease. You wouldn't say that of someone with cancer. Read up on it, understand it, don't make horrible comments about people that have committed suicide, educate yourself, and watch after your friends and family and get them help, the symptoms are ALWAYS there. No one wakes up one day and decided to kill themselves.

I have had cancer and have depression. I would take cancer a 1000 times over depression. Cancer is a word that people understand and can react to. Depression, not so much. As horribly tragic as it is I believe there is nothing cowardly about suicide. Most who chose that route don't come by the decision lightly and would NOT choose it in a rational state of mind. Their thoughts are not normal for them. They are at an unbelievable low. They truly believe others will be better off without them. They are in a numbing and tremendous amount of pain. They live life feeling dark and dead and want to stop existing. I'm not speaking for all suicides but I do understand the many levels of depression.

I feel like its a natural emotion that turns into a lifestyle. I wouldn't call it a disease. Too many people have killed themselves, I'm starting to wonder if depression is the only reason why.

I also had depression during peri-menopause. Mine started at 42. Hers started at 49. Mine lasted five years, like hers. Mine was severe, and so was hers. By the grace of God (boy did I pray), eventually I traced it back to food allergies. Milk, turkey, sunflower seeds and sunflower oil, eggs, and bananas. I can't touch these foods. I'll go into a black hole and think about the nearest exit. No PDoc ever told me about food allergies. Maybe Kate had them. Maybe she had a bad thyroid. Please folks, rule out food allergies and thyroid issues.

She hung herself in the apartment while her husband was there, reading a book, or online, or whatever. I don't want to blast him, but, you"d think you would notice that. Then again, my girlfriend and I are often separated by our individual activities in our apartment for time enough to commit such a desperate act, I guess.

people need to understand the magnitude of victims of suicide and how they too become vunerable to criticism...walk the walk with them and feel their pain, the mental pressure they endure. Much sympathy and sorrow goes out to all the loved ones that are left behind from this horrific tradegy and illness. .people should never judge them💜💜💜 Show some respect and leave them to grieve in private.

High-End Leather, Low-End Labor; Handbag Workers Embroiled in Bitter Contract Dispute By VIVIAN S. TOYSEPT. 22, 1999 By nearly all accounts, the last year has been a great one for Kate Spade, the handbag designer of choice for chic girls at private schools on the Upper East Side and ladies who lunch at Barneys. She sold the majority of her eponymous company to Neiman Marcus for $33.6 million. She redesigned her West 25th Street showroom as well as her boutique in SoHo. And she and her partner and husband, Andy Spade, plunked down more than $2.6 million for a nine-room Park Avenue palazzo. But even as her trademark understated bags have been flying off the shelves of upscale department stores in New York and across the country, one of her main contractors has been embroiled in a bitter labor battle that has brought the world of fine leather and well-manicured nails face to face with that of immigrant workers barely making the minimum wage. In a tale as old as Ellis Island, workers at Veje Leather -- a garment district factory that makes only Kate Spade bags -- have complained of harsh working conditions and have said they believe that they have been exploited because they are new to the country and do not speak the language. The workers, most of them recent arrivals from Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, described 6-day workweeks with 11-hour days in which they were allowed only half an hour for lunch and no other breaks. Through an interpreter from the union, Ms. Pimentel said that Veje Leather was relentless in demanding the high-quality work that Kate Spade customers expect. She said she eventually injured her hands from the repetitive motion of hammering on leather and nylon with a mallet to make the delicate straps of the handbags perfectly smooth. ''I would come home and soak my hands every night because they were so swollen and painful from the work,'' she said. Ms. Pimentel said she suspected that Veje Leather had kept her on for six weeks longer than other union organizers so she could help complete a special shipment of bags that required her experienced hand to work the straps.

There's nothing weak about surviving Decade's depression. Many Many people who suffer with this deadly disease, don't acheive nearly as much as they are capable of, due to the symptoms that accompany This illness. Many sufferers live in poverty because they are unable to keep momentum a working environment and are usually discriminated against by colleagues and there employers as they are seen as a burden to buisness, targetted for bullying and subjected to a whole host of other very unpleasent treatment within, thus causing more depression, isolation loss of self confidence, self respect independence. then take the depressed person who's without a suportive family, witout genuine friends because they generally get screwed over due to there vulnerability, making them perfect prey for narsists, predetors, open to manipulation of fake friends, causing them to internalize there pain inwardly. Imagine surviving this 50 years+ and wanting it to end cos your just tired and over it, but the survival instinct in you makes it harder to end your suffering, so you fight on another decade, your getting older and the world is getting harsher.. I think more of those with the view of (suicide for is weak people) clearly have lead lives without mental illness! You should also be open to the fact that it takes great inner strength to keep on keeping on when affiliated with this evil disease, in all its guises, and fair play to those who do become hugely rich and successful inspite of it but still carnt get free of its grasp. Respect.

Ppl talking about stigmas and shit need to understand Kate Spade was filthy fuckin rich...this is not a broke person that had no access to healthcare who slipped through the cracks...this woman could easily afford any of the best mental health treatment options available. There was nothing anyone could have done differently...not only would she not have been stigmatized but no one would have even known if she was or wasn't seeking mental health treatment and I highly doubt if anyone did they would've been critical of her as most have known ppl in their own lives suffering from depression and what it can lead to. RIP

I just feel so bad for her, even, though, I'm not a fashion follower, and just heard the name when I overheard status seeking teens and twenty somethings talking about their Kate Spade purses.
